It's pretty shocking that they're promoting this as a "new" discovery in order to sell their tat. As mentioned in the comments the full Elegia was put out on the Retro bonus disc ten years ago and again on the 2008 remasters. It's been officially available to buy for ages.
Personally, I've never ever heard this story that Elegia was written specifically as an Ian Curtis tribute. I think that bit's bollocks unless a credible official source can verify it.
Have a vague memory that Barney said they went to the studio for an all night session and wrote it whilst off their tits on acid, but he went through a phase of saying they wrote everything like that.

I read in an interview not that long ago (can't remember if it was Hooky, Bernard or Steve) saying it was written as a tribute to Ian, or for Ian.
Didn't they say years ago that "elegia" was an attempt to make a soundtrack for some video project or whatever, but it wasn't used so they put a short version on Low-life?
Elegia is out there on it's own in terms of New Order's style at the time so there must have been some catalyst / story behind it. I really wouldn't be surprised if it was for Ian. Tribute might be too strong a word maybe, but a cathartic expression possibly...

He did didn't he. I have a vague memory of him describing BM as being a 'pounds, shillings and pence record' meaning LSD from 'old money' and recording Temptation [or was it EGG?] on' a quarter of a tab of acid, not enough to get you off your tits, but enough to make things sound different' or something to that effect.
I remember the Pounds Shillings and Pence comment. Had to ask my parents to explain it. I think Tommy Vance quoted it during one of the many weeks in 1983 when BM got played (in full) on the Sunday Top 40 on Radio 1.
