I realise that's unhelpful, counter-productive and ungrateful. But hey I feel better for getting that off my chest! ![]()
I'm still liking the old forums

and the spammers found the new forum :\ohwell:
maybe we leave them the new one and stick with the old one?
spammers will get on any forum sadly. i dont think setting up a new forum will make the slightest difference.
maybe we need more modulators?
I suppose the problem is you don't want too many mods (spoiling the broth and what have you), but if you just have a few they can't be expected to clean everything up all the time... There is probably an answer, but will take some ingenuity to implement...
Can't get used to smilies on the new forum! ![]()

Plenty of forums operate spam-free. The reason NOOL is so badly affected at the moment is because it operates an archaic registration process which is easy to exploit. The new forum's signup procedure is not strong enough either because (as far as I can see) it's not that much more secure than this old one right now.
Adding more mods is not the solution besides who can really be arsed mopping up passport spam all day long? I know I couldn't. The offending "members" producing the garbage need their accounts to be deactivated and the registration process beefed up with extra security.
The logical suggestion would be add an easy New Order related question to the validation process as well as making moderators approve accounts before anyone's allowed to post for the first time. They use account approval on JD Central and the Doves forum so why we can't do it on here is a mystery. It would not only take care of the spam bots but also some of the nastier trolls NOOL has seen over the years.

Agreed.

Agreed, a better sign up procedure would improve things. otherwise your just gonna get spammers migrate from old forum to knew.
in fact, i would say that the new forum is far more secure. i registered and cant even log in now![]()
It's hard to adapt to the revamp and the change - it's so annoying that we have had to be driven to this sort of extreme though. I mean, this forum has been our lifeblood for so long that it will always feel strange and unfamiliar to switch to a completely new arrangement after this one has been serving the community for so long now it's cosy like a favourite armchair or pair of old slippers - something you can just flop into after coming back from work.....

Seems odd now that both forums are up, half the traffic is here and there and half is nowhere, can't get a proper discussion going.
The spammers seem to have gone, can we all just come ack to this? I can't get used to the new forum.
I think they have gone because their memberships were booted off the site. And they haven't come back because no new members have been allowed to sign up on these "old" forums. I don't know how prolific the sign-up rate is these days. If it's low, then i wonder if each new member could email a moderator (or an address that the moderator accesses) and be approved on an individual basis. The mods might have something to say about that though...

They've only "gone" because the original spammer accounts were disabled by Spotnick and he also suspended the entire registration process for these forums.
So yes, the spam is gone but no new members can join either.
I agree with you though and the new forums need just a little more work. They were seemingly just set up in the most basic manner and then promptly abandoned. I thought it was going to be a work in progress for a number of weeks with input from the "community" to make it a credible replacement for here. A wee bit disappointing.

somewhat a closed door approach, but most fans of the band are already on here, I'm sure there's not many genuine new member requests, maybe they could be done via email request?
But Spotnick went to a lot of trouble setting up the new forum so to just walk away from it seems a little ungrateful.. ![]()
On the other hand it is good to see that things are back on track here.. ![]()
New Order played a gig in Newcastle last night and there has been hardly a word about it.:\ohwell:

Beware NUTS the Rocket is heading to your NEW forum.I have a question on FAC 53.![]()
I know its a thankless task being a mod. and i appreciate their efforts in setting up an alternative site.
BUT..I dont like it, it wont accept my log in details, theres hardly any posts on there, and the shed songs are rubbish.
so im in the red corner (bring back this old site!)
Urgh. we have 2 new order sites but i cant use either!!
on this one if I click on FORUMS it takes me to the new forum.
on the new forum i dont know my password or user name. But I know my display name. and you cant get a password reminder if you dont remember your user name.
crap, crap, crap!
The new forum only recognizes me half the time. When I sign in, half of it is in Chinese. Not helpful.
A bit of a do here!
I too had problems logging into the new site and then all of a sudden it accepted my login and password.
Also, I found that if you click on the relevant Digital Republic, Ceremeny Forum etc forum on the left of the page after you have logged in as normal (not the banner one across the top) you get all the old threads etc there.
Yeah, me to disappointed in the two not really linking well but at least the spammers have gone. I'm sure the Mods will find a way to resolve the indifferences here eventually so more than happy to flit between the two.
After an initial burst of effort, it's all descended into a bit of a shambles really. It's possibly even worse than before because now the userbase is now split between two bloody forums and the new "spam-proof" one was covered in spam itself a week ago.
The whole project shouldn't really have been started if there was no will to complete it. Ironically, New Order are in the middle of their busiest year in forever really, just completed a big (for them) UK tour and this place is completely dysfunctional. Existing fans aren't sure which forum to use and newer fans wanting to register must wonder what the fcuk is going on.
Oh well, business as usual then.
