It doesn't have to be rare (or it could be). If you had the money, and your neighborhood music store had it, what would you drop your money for first? How about one NO/JD item and one other item not NO or JD. Also, it needs to already exist - so no IV.

The JD/NO one is easy; that'd be the Sordide Sentimental package.

As for 'others', I did find one thing I was looking for: ACR's recent SoulJazz comp. I have the material on the first disc, but didn't have any of the Peel stuff. Plus, there's a video/film about ACR in NY in'80 on their as well.

Might as well shoot for the moon on the "not bloody likely to obtain at a reasonable cost" list and hope for the first Velvets album with an unpeeled banana in very good shape. (Yeah right!)

The Here are the Young Men video is still great to see although the quality is quite poor and the cameraman is standing to the side of the stage, not giving the greatest view of the band. The amazing power of Joy Division live still shines through the poor quality though ...

The 1981-1982 CD... This one seems hard to find.

I just won this off of Ebay for $14.50 US - it was awesome! This CD is regularly on there - but you want to find it by looking through all NO CD's, that is how I found mine. The guy titled it as FEP 313 - he did not include 1981 or 1982 in the title. You should be able find something for a good price within a week or two.

JD/NO - an original of either An Ideal for Living 7" EP or the Sordide Sentimental single would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath

as most of my NO stuff is on cassette and i've moved around a lot, i now can't find most of my NO collection! so, as for what i want NO-wise, it would be most of their back catalogue on CD (fortunately i have most of my JD on CD).

as for non NO/JD, someone nicked my burt bacharach greatest hits a few years ago, and i really want to replace it.

All 3 of these have appeared on ebay in the last 2 months. Sordide Sentimental went for £375!, An Ideal for Living - the seller wanted $850 & received no bids, a Factory Sample (FAC2) went for about £200.So you could have picked the lot up for just over a grand!!.

the JD Effenaar Eindhoven 1980 18/01/80 bootleg is my favorite ever... why did they only officially release 4 songs out of the 16 songs that are on the bootleg?? doesnt make sense to me... i'm scared to even play my old bootleg vinyl, so i downloaded the mp3s, which sound fine (it is a bootleg, after all) i've seen the vinyl for sale for quite a lot on eBay...

i just bought the Warsaw bootleg CD with the grey baby, i wish i hadn't, what muddy sound, i've got it all on scratchy old bootlegs from the early 80s anyway, even the very different style punky "You're no good for me"......

does the Incubation/ Komakino 7" flexidisc sell for much? it was a freebie back then, was a cool bonus...

how many Everything's Gone Green/ Procession 7" singles were there?? i've got two different color covers.... i've got all those early JD/NO 7"'s like Transmission, Love will..., Ceremony, Gone Green, Temptation, even Confusion... and 1981-82 12" on dark purple vinyl, my very first NO purchase...amazing how every thing made its way to Ohio, and i was such a dork to buy them...

FAC 53 in BRITAIN was in 9 colours and then they are some rare ITALIAN and promo ones.I have 8 of the 9 normal ones ,just missing the BROWN cover.Only worth about £3-£5 each but it the COLLECTING that is fun.But keep collecting cos in years to come the memories of where and when you bought them will make you smile.Unlike the PROMO i got for 1963 12inch which i bought when i paid my fines to BLACKBURN COURT for a little TROUBLE i had!Still i am free now and the PROMO is still ace.Have FUN.:D

This forum has really opened my eyes of late, as to what people percieve as rare, and how much they'd pay. It makes me feel old that a True Faith CDV that I picked up in HMV for a couple of quid all those years ago is now a collectors item!!

I got SS around '87 - '88 time at a "Collectors Convention" (ie a Record Fair, but with "reputable" dealers only). It was reassuringly expensive!

The Factory Sample was pilfered directly from my brother's collection, along with the original Factory OMD Electricity....bonus!

Recently I`ve got hold of some nice rare gems; 1981-1985 promo, Best of boxset promo both of which cost a wedge, but bargain of the month was a NZ copy of procession in mint for less than a six pack of aussie hogwash.

At the moment I`m after the Collection 17 track Jap promo, half a dozen coloured confusion promos and a limited numbered gatefold of Substance.

I`m also after the brazilian Blue Monday flexi, some joker on sorbet wants $70 for it starting price

I just saw the Komakino 7" go for like $15 or less on Ebay

The Factory Christmas Flexi has gone for less than $15 on Ebay as well (more than once in the last week) - I thought that was rare... I guess not. I am glad I didn't shovel out anything for it.

DisCount, I have a (Polish?) 10" Blue Monday, white cover with red line. Think it has Thieves on the flip side. Never managed to track down the original of this beast but it is an awesome item to behold.

Plenty of BM's with BM starting at the start of the beat and others not. Also, BM's with 'The Beach Ball' on side A and covers 'with' and 'without' the floppy cut-out ... oddly, some versions without the floppy still have the 'copyright' tab cut top right! ... curious.

Hubblesworth, are you sure that's a 10" Polish release? I have a 7" that sounds remarkably similar. There was also a promo version with no Thieves on the flipside. It's worth a fair few crackers more.

As for the white 1963 diecut 12", it's a nice piece. Not so rare however, they still lurk around the Net on GEMM, etc.

Cannot compute whether BM is 10 or 7" ... tend to think it's 10". I think I've also got the non-b side version and I seem to have some really oddball acetate of BM somewhere ... possibly up my sleeve.

Once my collection is re-located from the loft to suitable zone within the homestead I will be more confident with my stats. on rare goods.

The 7" of Thieves in pristine con. is a favourite of mine and is a real difficult piece to find.

Yes sir, that's the one (BM) ... you see, my mind is going. I seem to have a few BM pieces, I can't be sure but I think one of them is very odd ... might even be 10" - I'll have to get back with it one day and see if identification can be made.

I've got the True Faith CD with a leaf, actually, it might be a cabbage.

QWest releases ... bought a shop full years ago, I guess they'd been sat there for ages waiting for one of us to chance by. Glorious condition. Nice packaging also. cannot recall what I have and what I haven't, I'll look out for TPK with intriguing video addition.

Original USA Mini album, anyone managed to collect this? ... one of me faves.

Ol' Bloo, I also have both the live Perfect Kiss US 12" and the "cabbage" TF CD promo and can recommend them as desirable Qwesties.

That Thieves 7" is certainly one of the more difficult 7's to come by. Along with Confusion, 1963, BM95 and the original '83 BM...

In your photo Hudsuckle, , it appears as though your BM acetate could form the brim of your hat. Might be worth checking?

HUNTSY i have the POLISH singles...at least two different ones and they are 7 inch ONLY.I had duplicate ones too and gave them away to SHUGZV in a "HUNTSMAN/MUFFY" sort of generous way. Must tell you too that the 12 INCH of the PROMO for 1963 is a MINT/CLASS act.Picked it up after paying my fines at BLACKBURN for a little trouble i had with the ex-wife.Just think if it was not for her i would have missed this gem....Bless her:D I am still after the BROWN FAC 53 and the LIGHT BLUE/DARK BLUE oddity. ah yes the Rez/Why Why Why 12"....very nice. my friend has this as well as all the collectable Underworld vinyl. I can get you a copy of all the mixes of Skyscraper and Why, Why, Why if you need them....also have tons or rare and remixed Underworld for your consumption including the promoed then deleted 14minute ambient instrumental of Simply Red's Thrill Me, Minneapolis, Cafe Del Mar mix, Water from a Vineleaf remix etc...send wish list....

When I bought my first copy of EGG 7" the only copies that were around were the brown on grey cover versions. I have two of these but not in Australia, back in my mums loft, back in blighty. The NZ light dark blue on light blue is quite common downunder, when I get another Ill give you first refusal, unless you want to swap it for the that PCL marble vinyl

I remember Old Blue (or ?) emailed me a copy of the Record Collector guide a while back, however my hard-drive has since de-atomised so I can't pass it on. It pre-dated that Ivarsson one however. I don't think there's a more recent version.

That list (link above) is a bit stingy, and possibly wholly inaccurate ... unless every NO item is worth 'about $7-10'.

Record Collector is the only 'serious' price guide to JD/NO collectables I've ever seen - the international network I'm sure will provide a more up-to-date version. Doesn't big Al Jarvalistic know of a website which lists every known JD/NO release with appropriate price tag ... CatWeasel.com.net.web or something?

All 3 of these have appeared on ebay in the last 2 months. Sordide Sentimental went for £375!, An Ideal for Living - the seller wanted $850 & received no bids, a Factory Sample (FAC2) went for about £200.So you could have picked the lot up for just over a grand!!.

£200? blimey. wish i'd got it for £20 when was a student now.

They were always expensive in relative terms, Im not laughing, I gave a weeks wages for An Ideal for living back in the early 80s. :(

My Sordide cost me a tenner and a Fall bootleg off a mate in 1981. Haven't even seen it for ten years, it's in the loft at my parents' house with most of my vinyl.

The said flexi was sent by HUNTSMAN to me recently.Nice to own but what an absolute pile of crap it is.:D This is the worst sound by NO by a mile.Still a great thing for HUNTSY to give to CHILDREN IN NEED.

You can get the Christmas Flexi off Ebay regularly for a tenner, must not be too rare - same with the Komakino flexi
