jk.... anyways, I recently broke up with my bf of the past year. While we were together he introduced me to Joy Division and NO. Since the breakup thats all I've been listening to. The words, the music...when I'm down, all of it just brings me back up into the light. I've had "Get Ready", "Technique", "Substance" and "Best Of" goin like crazy in my car stereo. They've inspired me like I am sure they inspire all of you. Just wanted to share that.... also, I am a huge RedHotChiliPeppers nut. I was wondering if any of you had have heard their new record which is very JD influenced? In fact, flea (bassist) and John Frusciante (guitarist) have both admitted to playing in a JD cover band earlier this year and they played a few european dates with NO. The song Warm Tape in particular is a lil JD-ish in its sound. Any thoughts?

John Frusciante joined Moby with NewOrder on stage at Area:One in LA last year for a rendition of New Dawn Fades by JoyDivision....i have to admit to being a Chili Pepper HATER. Ridiculous gimicks + one dimensional sound have grown very tiresome. haven't heard the new album but then again, i don't want to. Long Live NewOrder and may they NEVER appear onstage wearing socks over their schlongs.

yeah, i too am not a fan of the peppers. i get very sick of them.:dead: over hyped. as for john frushiante, i've heard his version of new dawn fades...not bad.:)
wasnt "Day of the Lords" cover from the A means to an End cover tribute album a band with some Chlii Pepper members?
why hate them... they are not worthy of hate, they belong in the spotlight more than most big rock bands in the last 15 years...
the version of "Isolation" from that comp. pisses me off thou, i think it is Billy Corgan changing the lyrics to sound more pathetic and whiny. Ian was not as whiny and self-obssessed as Corgan.

Peppers new album v. JD and NO influenced. Hooky should be proud (homage mostly to Hook), RHCP album straight in at no.1 on both continents.
My bird has been a fan for ages, the new album is a classic ... almost every song quite excellent. Some bits eerily JD. Not sure you could class them as 'rock' in the traditional mid-eighties sense. More like urban grunge with a pleasant after taste.
Producers take note, listen to this album then reasses your current project.
Speaking of tribute bands, is there not a JD or NO (or JD and NO) tribute band out there? ... best tribute band I ever witnessed - 'The Paul Weller Experience', the lead guy might not have looked too much like PW but his vocals especially 'cock-on'.
Funny you should ask. There are plans in the pipeline for an NO tribute band, and there's some geezer advertising on World in Motion for his JD tribute band.

MIDI files, hmmm. We talking plastic sound Cobweb? - Seems if you could put a decent band together you'd make a bit of coin as there currently seems to be zero NO, JD or Smiths tribute acts out there. Resulting in gap in the pub scene. MIDI files rarely represent accurate versions of songs though ... I guess you know this.
Good luck with it though. Best place to advertise for band members is here. As always, finding local people who you consider worthy of the gig is going to prove tricky ... saying that, you're in the right area!
These don't sound too bad in all honesty. Not sure how to get them into a state by which they can be played live - do I just stick a PC on stage ?

Play MIDI files via a high quality soundcard rigged up (via stereo audio out) to either a DAT or MINIDISK machine. Record all songs (with the same volume) and make a backup. If possible buy 2 machines (DAT or MINIDISK, MINIDISK is less expensive) - take on stage and press play at the same time. If one deck goes down the other (which has volume set to 0) can be raised to level of defunct player.
Less fuss than a PC on stage and far more reliable, plus. easier to rig through desk and monitors. Feed band through desk and mix all levels to suit.

The only "tribute band" of JD that I'm aware of was the aptly titled (another Hooray for Creatvity! award) 'Joy Division 2000'. They had a website and everything, I don't know what's become of them (one would hope they update their name with the changing years), but they seemed pretty sad.

All I can say about the Peppers is - the first six months you discovered them are like a honeymoon... the rest of the relationship is like being married to a bed... everytime you come close to them, you want to go to sleep
I've always hated the Chilli Peppers, to the extent that when I went to Dublin for the NO support slot I had no intention of even waiting about to watch them. As it turns out I didn't make it to the gig but anyway.....
The new RHCP album is fantastic, honestly. In the words of Q Magazine
"no slap bass, no songs about mo-fo's, just quality LA rock"
And if there's gonna be a New Order tribute band I'd like to apply for the position of Hooky. Can't quite match up in terms of girth and facial hair but their aint a NO song out there that I haven't played along to with me specially adapted "XX Large" strap (made with the help of a trouser belt!) and Boss Chorus Pedal up at 11.
