Peter Hook on Lost Sirens.

I thought the interview on 6 Music was really good to be honest. Hooky came across well to me, really nice interview I thought. Holding off listening to tracks on Lost Sirens until CD drops from Amazon so first chance to hear one song i.e. Californian Grass. Not bad.

Hooky's just pissed because no one buy records like the old times - well, things have changed, if one wants to earn a life doing music, he must actually DO IT, playing live, not only resting his fat arse in a recording studio.

Spending a year of your life making an album IS "doing music". Albums dont just appear for free from thin air. If you expect people to pay their ticket to get a copy just like anything else that doesnt mean you're a sourpuss who's out of touch and greedy. Jesus...

Agreed, telling Hooky to get off his arse and tour then asserting that he should learn from his "so called hero" Bowie is very odd. Bowie has not toured consistently since 2004 (admittedly for health reasons) and is releasing new studio music with no mention as-yet of an upcoming tour. By Spidey's logic Hooky should both hole himself in a recording studio and tour more. Eh?

If you're going to criticise the man, at least have a decent point somewhere.

I'd go see Hook live, and still respect his contributions to music. It's just that he's been a real buzz-kill with the break up, NewOrderNow and Lost Sirens.

Agreed and, to be fair, Ive yet to hear from anybody rational who didnt say the Light gigs are really good.

After Freebass it's probably advisable that he doesn't "rest his fat arse in a recording studio."

Thanks for the award, Jarvo!! I put a lot of effort on it and I'm very proud.

Peeps, I'm not saying Hooky does not play live whatsoever, I would be nuts defending that. Au contraire, I remember posting not long ago that Hooky was always the one who cared the most about fans when playing live.

What really pisses me off is that same mambo jumbo that Internet/P2P/Torrents have made today's music quality worst. It is just not true.

Internet killed an industry, not music. Music executives had to move their business somewhere else, 99% of the recorded music nowadays is for publicity of the artists only and if such artists want to make money they have to play live - and this seems very fair to me.

The link with Bowie seemed appropriate, since the guy understood the effects of Internet in the music industry 10 years ago. And our beloved Hooky is just not accepting this inevitable scenario very well.

But I'm giving my contribution - I've preordered his JD gossip book and paid to watch him live with his teen mates on 2011. What else does he want me to do? Buy the Freebass album? No, thanks. I wouldn't even download it for free, it's just not worth the HD space.

Don't get the Freebass criticism. Hated the EP but enjoyed the album, it certainly jizzes over Revenge and stands comparison to 2000's 'Monaco'. Mucous For Pleasure remains Hook's strongest Out-Of-Order LP, don't you think? I'd like to hear new Light material as they play so well, but I won't hold my breath. Hooky seems to love touring more than writing and has often expressed his diffidence to putting out new material in this free-for-all age.

I thought the opposite - LP was dire, the EP okay.

Well, I say the EP was okay, but I'm only really referring to the Burgess track. IMO, easily the best side project track to have appeared out of either camp since WFTSC.

Am I the only person on here who likes the Freebass album? Some great songs IMO, and I'm normally the first to moan! The best song on the EP was You Don't Know..., but after a pleasantly Ceremonious opening it just goes on without climaxing.

It was terrible, nothing memorable on it at all. I am upset for purchasing it and want a refund.

On the other hand, Revenge was at least fun and I still get a few of their tunes in my head from time to time.

Intriguing as I still listen to Freebass' album and enjoy it while I never even considered OTP an LP, just an excuse for Hooky to indulge his ego, dabble in S&M imagery and enjoy life on the road... Definitely the worst thing to come out of this camp. Gun World Porn was worthwhile though by that stage it was nearly Monaco. In fact Under The Stars was originally a Revenge track (Born To Kill), just as Microbes / Pumpkin came out under Revenge but was also on Monaco's website. Always interesting to hear other fans' opinions!

There were rumours that Steve sung Movement, tosh of course but he did sing some of the original demos - but he's often expressed his diffidence to the idea of drummers singing, like when Phil Collins did 'In The Air Tonight' on TOTP and wasn't behind his drum set. I admit it's probably difficult to do it live; YMO's Yukihiro Takahashi was playing the drums whilst singing, for example.

I wonder if the timing of Hooky's rehab pissed off Bernard and Steve? Maybe they saw the timing of the rehab to be selfish on Hooky's part... which ruined any chance of completing the second record. Or did it sour before then, which was why he went to rehab in the first place?

Where did he go for rehab? I hope not in England. He should have come to Serenity Homes in Buffalo Gap, a few miles down from Abilene, Texas. People around are very respectful. Ashley Judd was admitted and everyone was ok about it. It's a great location: 3 hours away from any major city. Just to hear a whiporwill or see the will-o'-the-wisps...
