i haven't heard it myself, but i do like the cure. what's your verdict? i've said it before on here, and i'll say it again. word of warning, though: you're opening a big can of worms as we've had some, erm, 'flavourful' discussions about whether the cure are excellent or shite on this forum!

well, anyway, congrats on your first post and welcome to the site! :D

Cheers and thanks for the welcome

From what I understand it was made in response to a listeners contest at an Australian Radio Station, where people would call in with their 'Dream Cover'.

This one was mentioned, the Cure was approached, and did it. I think it is good, and I do like the cure, but I just never understand the need to cover, or re-mix a perfectly good song. They stay relatively close to the original, and Robert Smith adds his own character to it, so I'd give it a listen anyway - if you can find it

Yep - and like the Cure or Not, at least they are the same vintage. Imagine Love Will Tear Us Apart - by Christina Aguilera

The tambourine on the "live"-recording of "LWTUA" from The Cure does really SUCK !!!

what about a slowed-down adult contemporary version of 'killing an arab', sung by celine dion?

Well - they had to throw a bone at the contest winner I guess - at least she didn't play triangle

"And Love" <> "Love will tear us apart" <> "Again"

like I said...partially thinking it is an unnecessary cover, but hey - could have been worse

well, it's not so bad, really. i mean, it was a request after all, not like they did it in the studio or anything....:D

well, it's not a great version of the song...not terrible either. it's just the keyboard melody...it sounds off and dreary.

OK SUB-Question (thank you Jack Black)

  • Peel Sessions or original?

Killing an Arab would be better covered by Martha Stuart.

I like the Cure's LWTUA, it sounds pretty good... for a cover

You guys are killing me.

That version has been online at NewOrderOnline.com before ANY other site in the world :D

It's right there online with some other covers, our cover section is not as full as it used to be (drive space is limited) but that one is still there !!

It was recorded after a contest with JJJ in Autralia where you had to pick the song The Cure would cover, it's very nice they had the guts to do it...

I like it, I put it on a compilation CD and it get's a lot of play.

Only my opinion, of course, but the worst cover version has to be Paul Young and the best is Stanton Miranda.

I'm guessing that the contest winner was Simon Gallop of The Cure. He wanted to have a legit reason to rip off Hooky's basslines.

Why didn't the Cure do a cover version of All The Way (off "Technique') instead??

Or Maybe they should have got New Order to cover "A Forest" cos that's so similar to Joy Division anyway.
