Anyone heard the Cure's cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart?

and if so, what do you think.

I am somewhere in between blasphemous and not too bad

i haven't heard it myself, but i do like the cure. what's your verdict? i've said it before on here, and i'll say it again. word of warning, though: you're opening a big can of worms as we've had some, erm, 'flavourful' discussions about whether the cure are excellent or shite on this forum!

From what I understand it was made in response to a listeners contest at an Australian Radio Station, where people would call in with their 'Dream Cover'.

This one was mentioned, the Cure was approached, and did it. I think it is good, and I do like the cure, but I just never understand the need to cover, or re-mix a perfectly good song. They stay relatively close to the original, and Robert Smith adds his own character to it, so I'd give it a listen anyway - if you can find it

well, it's not so bad, really. i mean, it was a request after all, not like they did it in the studio or anything....:D

well, it's not a great version of the song...not terrible either. it's just the keyboard melody...it sounds off and dreary.

I like it, I put it on a compilation CD and it get's a lot of play.

Only my opinion, of course, but the worst cover version has to be Paul Young and the best is Stanton Miranda.

dont really like the cure much at all.... or their version of LWTUA... gotta agree with old blue on stanton miranda being best version......

I'm guessing that the contest winner was Simon Gallop of The Cure. He wanted to have a legit reason to rip off Hooky's basslines.

Why didn't the Cure do a cover version of All The Way (off "Technique') instead??

Or Maybe they should have got New Order to cover "A Forest" cos that's so similar to Joy Division anyway.
