According to our AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of January 22, 2013 is Lost Sirens by New Order. The cover received 40% of the voted cast by our readers. Wolf’s Law by The Joy Formidable was second with 30%. Aaron Neville’s My True Story was a distant third with 10%.

The winning cover demonstrates that a simple design can often generate a great deal of interest. It is just nine squares of different color. However, the result is quite sophisticated. When I first saw it posted on Amazon.com. it immediately caught my eye. I am not surprised that it won.

And I wonder where they got the inspiration from...

It kind of reminds me of this album cover which is slightly spoilt by having the artists name etc on the cover, but a cool cover nonetheless..

edit: please imagine i have posted a pic of a completed 'connect 4' board in response, as i am too tired to actually find one.

I wonder how many people who voted for it were aware that the image is basically a "remix" of the nine squares in the bottom right hand corner of the clash magazine "new order 30" cover which represented the WFTSC single artwork.

And I wonder if PSB were to release this today, would it also win a best album artwork award:

I understand PSB's Yes album artwork took inspiration from the Gerhard Richter piece below (I'm guessing Clash magazine may have done too) For more info go to Creative Review

It also reminds me of PSB's 'Yes', 'Pandemonium', and maybe a bit of Gerhard Richter's art (the squares?).
