Obviously there's a few anomalies here......

Slow Jam on the hits disc ? Run Wild on the early years disc ? Date of EGG is wrong - it's 12/3/83 not 85 Date of World is wrong - can't be 1983 !!

Surely they aren't just going to dump the original studio versions back out on us with all these ? Maybe there will be demo versions of some of the tracks instead of simply the album version. Otherwise it ain't worth buying - having got all the live recordings already (indeed masters of three of the shows), I'm almost regretting having paid for it already !

Cheers for the info.There are one or two live tracks and the odd new mix i have not got.But i too hope for demos or this is rather mundane from a collectors point of view.May interest some that are fairly new to NO but usually most people using the INTERNET will have most of these already. What a shame!

Mmm, well it looks like London Records were using a strange distorted form of democracy, when they asked advice from us fans about what we'd like to see on the set: they didn't use any of our suggestions!

Seriously though, if the four people who selected the disc's running orders are as massively into new order as the rest of us, they should have carefully selected at least hard to find versions of these tracks, rather than the usual album mixes. Why not just do a "Pet Shop Boys", and remaster all the albums with a bonus disc of a few B-sides and demos instead? (I know why, actually - money, but there you go).

The best we can hope for is that the studio versions of Fine Time/Temptation/Perfect Kiss/Ceremony/Confusion/Blue Monday/In A Lonely Place/Lonesome Tonight will be the 7" or full length 12" versions which aren't on any CD compilations so far (but I very much doubt they will be).

The live disc looks good, but the remix disc only has one mix on which I don't have (the hard-to-find 'Paradise' mix on the Aussie True Faith 12"). Don't we have enough remix compilations/singles already? Could've done with swapping that for a rarities/demos disc, I reckon.

Going on the number of tracks on each disc, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those mixes are edited down, 'Substance' style too (isn't that 'Regret' remix about 12 minutes long?). Will they finally manage to get the correct version of 'Temptation' on there at last (my bet is that it'll be the original 7")?

I think they'll have to keep the price at around £17, otherwise not many people will be buying it!

The mooted tracklisting did have Turn My Way and Crystal, plus a recent Alan Wise intro all listed. Maybe they didn't make the final cut? Or the CD over-ran (do they still clock these things at 74mins?).

There's no way that the eleven tracks listed clock up 74 mins.......maybe the HMV site ran out of space or simply omitted the others ?

I'm still reading the live disc and I'm stil surprised at how many old classics are on ... even with the inclusion of the few new songs you've mentioned the balance is old which I find hard to believe NO agreed to have as the final gig? ... this element of the set seems great (as you can't easily obtain the live gear especially not good quality) but if they release old live stuff why not demo material ... the stuff we 'really' want to hear and keep. So, live stuff is okay, but re-mixes? ... bit boring, and easily attanable. As for the general releases (the singles) - what else can they do?

So I understand, Barney wanted to have a whole live show from 2001-02 as the live disc, but they couldn't find one without errors !

The Rest Of New Order clocks at 79:59. Intelligently done. Some of the CD playters might list 80:00 or even 80:01 for that CD.

Unfortunately this listing makes me depressed.

I haven't done an accurate count, and even if you assume they can squeeze 80 mins. onto a CD, the average track length for CD1 works out at 5:42 for 14 tracks.

Almost all the 12" versions of those songs are longer than that, so they must be edited versions.

Someone should be sorting this stuff out. The Best Of was released about 10 years ago, and was poor then. 2002 = The Best Of II with the same tracks ... what kind of box set is that? - I've never seen a box set that didn't contain 'rare' stuff. That's all we're asking.

As a business proposition IV is in my opinion fatally flawed. It gives too little to the hardcore fans and it is far too much for the innocent bystander at whom International is rightly aimed. It is nothing but another shot at milking New Order back catalogue with a cheap and cheerful product who "will do for now"

There is the original "here to stay" which hasn't surfaced yet (and might never officially surface at all) - i think it clocks in at 6:50 and has the original "to rescue you and i'll set you rfree" vocal. it has also few to no guitars at all and is weaker. But isn't Here To Stay weak anyway...

As I understand it, technically the "original" version of 'Everything's Gone Green' was the seven inch version, with 'Procession' on the flip side. This is only some 4:15 in length. The 'Substance' version was on the FBN 12" issued a month or so later, and was basically the full length version with the longer intro and no fade out (also on '1981-1982').

As for 'Here To Stay', I reckon it'll probably just be the 'Full Length Vocal' (4:57) as featured on the 12" and the '24 Hour Party People' soundtrack. It could, however, be the 'Extended Instrumental' which only featured on the Austrailian releases of the single as clocks in at 5:57 - not a bad mix, in the tradition of those 'Substance' tape two B-side 12" remixes we used to love so much.

Giong on the rest of this track list, it doesn't look like anyone concerned has taken an interest in fans' requests to have the hard-to-find mixes and tracks in one boxed set, so it'll probably just be the single version.

So much for our demands to get all the original 'Confusion's, seven inches and twelve inch instrumental mixes on CD at last... back to my Technics 1210 and DAT recorder, I think...

I would have hoped for a more comprehensive collection ("Early years", "Low-life/Bro'hood/Subs", "Tech-GR", and "live 1980-2002"), and the four-disc set as it is doesn't do that. There is the original "here to stay" which hasn't surfaced yet (and might never officially surface at all) - i think it clocks in at 6:50 and has the original "to rescue you and i'll set you rfree" vocal. it has also few to no guitars at all and is weaker. But isn't Here To Stay weak anyway...

You also had harsh words to say about Underworld...words i felt were neither fair, nor informed. We can agree that this "Box Set" is a major cock up...someone with ties to the band make sure you mention how the REAL FANS think the FUCKED this up big time. This is nearly the last straw in my long love fest for NewOrder. They have done nothing but disappoint (with the exception of a handfull of awesome tunes) for the last decade and a half. They have lost their beauty and now seem to be miliking the cash cow. Did anyone look at the incredible output from Bjork? Full live shows on DVD, complete Video collections, personally selected 3" discs included as a bonus in the Box Set that features new, unreleased versions of some songs and a Greatest Hits chosen entirely by fans...IS THAT SO FUKCING HARD? New Order smell like old men who are no longer relavent nor caring about their output or fan base...

Where are all the instrumentals and B-sides??? True story, last night I had a dream about this box set (it had the same artwork, packaging and disc design as Substance, believe it or not...), so I wake up, hop online and discovered how lame the tracklisting is. why release a "greatest hits" CD and then have the "hits" CD on the Boxset?? why have no sense of order? why have no rare unique live tracks...? why have such an odd mix of "mixes"... why not have something at least a little off the beaten track like the excellent Peel versions of "5.8.6" and "Turn the Heater On", or any unrealeased early stuff ? what's the fucking point!?

A BOXSET usually is meant to be either...

a) a sense of history of the band, a monument to the band, the past, and their legacy, something you can put on the shelf and feel proud... grade of D

b) a large complete best of.... IV does not really fill that bill ...i'll give it a grade C, especially considering the remix disc doesnt really stick to the "classics" at all

c) a collection for the completist that goes beyond what you can buy already, with rare or hard to get stuff as treats ... D grade

i mean, it is like a sampler with a live disc tacked on... *cries softly*

i am so disappointed... ........ unbelievable... please tell me that this a joke, the Slow Jam and Run Wild placement have to be a clue...

Can we just open one thread called "Box Set - complain here" so that we don't have to read about everyone ranting over the most obvious and foreshadowed lame box set of the millenium? We all knew it was going to be a very average and not rare box. Why did you allow yourself to think otherwise? It is exactly what I expected it to be - with the exception of the live disk (which has a great track listing for a live compilation album). Like I said before: get over it, go cry to mama, then get your wallet out, pay the man, and go home with your average box set like the rest of us.

one word: REDUNDANCY. except for, as mentioned above, the live CD, which i'm quite excited about as well.

Nah, you're thinking of 'Temptation' which had a different recording on the seven inch to the twelve inch - both of which were good versions. No one will every know though, as the excellent seven inch version is no where to be found on the box set - surprise, surprise.

Dunno where you heard that Shug - wishful thinking on your part. They weren't included in the list of tracks we had.

Who's WE? I got an e-mail from a pretty reliable source, but asking for names not to be mentioned, 75% of the tracks are there, so it wasn't far off the mark....to nane names would be a bit daft, hopefully the next info will be more acurate.....I'm sure they are reading this;)

So did I, hence the reluctance to say too much, but it didn't mention any tracks from Cologne.
