I had a click around a couple of other NewOrder related message boards and was surprised to come across this thread which appears to have been started by someone INVOLVED WITH THE WHOLE PROJECT - but has posted under a pseudonym. She/he insists they are genuine and asks the posters to give them their suggestions which she/he would take seriously and put them to the compilers....

Hiya all, I'm involved with putting together the forthcoming New Order box set (honest, I am) and I was wondering what you fans out there would like to see on it. Do you prefer remixes or do you like the unadulterated originals? Are there any particular tracks you'd really like to be on the CD? Let me know - all suggestions considered seriously. Thanks.

um, JD songs re-done by NO
hard to find tracks that are out of print, whether they be on deleted singles or whatever.
covers done by NO (live or recorded)
some peel sessions maybe?

How about...
- The original 15-minute version of "Elegia" as an extra track.
- Some of the cool B-sides like "Behind Closed Doors", "Player In The League", etc.
- "Temptation-1998"
- "Here To Stay"
- The NO versions of JD's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and "Atmosphere" as played during the AREA:ONE festival tour.

Seems that most of the NO compilation albums have been filled with remixes (see: Substance, Best of, et al). Those are cool and all but it would be great to get an album with the true sounds of the original tunes.
And not just the popular stuff, but put in the GOOD stuff too. After all, 1963 was never totally popular here in the States but it is still a great NO song!

remixes are not a priority. unreleased tracks. demos, especially of "brotherhood" material. covers, such as NO doing "love will tear us apart." unusual live material - new order doing covers like "can't get you out of my head" or divine's "love reaction." the 1998 peel sessions. "perfect kiss" live video version.
original versions of "temptation" and "confusion."
check out the echo & the bunnymen box set and follow in those footsteps.

What I really don't want to see is another bunch of remixes slung together by a bunch of flavour-of-the-month DJ's who make some half-arsed remix between sets in Ibiza.
How about some interesting cover versions - there are very, very few recorded covers by the 'Order. We know they're a bunch of lazy bastards so if they can't be bothered to write any new tunes just get 'em to cover "Unchained Melody" or something.
Actually maybe not "Unchained Melody"......any suggetions?

Spooky - as for the track listing of this box set - how many CDs are going to be in it in total? - are we talking about the (controversial and much-debated on these shores) "RECYCLE" box set or that OTHER "Best Of" (what?! Another one already??!!) compilation that is also planned to be released?
Seems the fans have been getting VERY short shrift in recent years as regards definitive New Order compilation or box set that REALLY does the back catalogue justice. I mean so many half-hearted ideas and suggestions have been floating about but as ever NOTHING is ever concrete or confirmed and most fans fear that come the eleventh hour all we'll get is yet more pointless reissues that feature tracks already available on CD or yet more shitty remixes.
Ideally the box set should include EVERY SINGLE (that's A, B sides and long/edit versions) that was issued on Factory Records up to 1990 - then any mixes or demo's of already CD-released tracks thereafter. It's simply pointless to include any newer (London Records-era) tracks or singles simply cos what is MORE important to the fans is that they get the OLDER material issued on CD for the very first time (like the first version of "Ceremony" for example - widely regarded as superior to the version that came out on "Substance" in 1987)....
In addition to the obvious COMPLETE collection of 12" and 7" tracks, the following oddities should also be included as I think they represent an important part of the back catalogue as well:
EVIL DUST - a remix of "Angel Dust"
PARADISE (12" Australian mix)
The full 16 minute version of "ELEGIA"
Alternative versions of "CONFUSION" and "TEMPTATION 98"
LET'S GO - original version with lyrics (not to be confused with the 1995 re-strung mix)
TOUCHED BY THE HAND OF GOD (the mix that appears in the film "Salvation" or the newer remix that was never officially released
SUB-CULTURE - the rare Record Mirror Free single remix

- "Such A Good Thing" (from the 2002 re-release of "World In Motion")
- "Here To Stay" (from "24 Hour Party People"). The frickin' thing was NEVER released as a single in the States like it was SUPPOSED to!
- "MTO" (instrumental B-side from "Run 2", the infamous version of "Run" pulled off the shelves when NO lost the lawsuit given by John Denver)
- "Sabotage" (B-side from "60 Miles An Hour")
- "Brutal" (from the soundtrack to the movie "The Beach")
- "Best and Marsh" (instrumental B-side from "Round & Round" single)
- "Don't Do It" (instrumental B-side from "Fine Time" single)

By the way, the tracks MTO, Don't Do it! and Best And Marsh were already accounted for in the list above when I stated that EVERY SINGLE B-SIDE TRACK from the Factory-era must be included as well! This of course also includes BOTH takes of "Run2" and "MTO".
But "Such A Good Thing" is SUCH A CRAP SONG that I seriously would hate for it to be included as it's too recent and throwaway anyway....
"Sabotage" however, is the BEST of the recent B-sides - have to agree!

Actually, I've never even heard "Such A Good Thing" or "Sabotage"...the most recent NO tracks I've heard were "Here To Stay", "Player In The League" and "Vicious Circle". And now that my favorite Audiogalaxy is no longer in service (just a stupid message board, whoopee), I don't know what other free-mp3 sites/programs there are out there...

I think you have to consider a multiple CD set. With one or two of the CD's dedicated to remixes. Not new remixes but "classic" unrealeased versions perhaps. Because it's a box set I would suggest you start chronologically and go from there. I could go on for hours about what should be included. But uv got some great suggestions already...

"Let's Go" was also on the "Salvation!" soundtrack (I was fortunate enough to find it on CD...it also has THE original version of "Touched By The Hand of God"), although it was the version without lyrics...which I "heard" is the original version as well. Also, "Skullcrusher" and "Sputnik" (two instrumentals) are on there, as well...
