Seeing as the Box Set will be a load of shit.....

Should we lie down and let them unload the dung all over record stores as it is, or should we band together and flood London or Warners (or hell, even New Order) with e-mails and letters protesting and demanding a major reevaluation of the track listing? I opt for the second, so anyone with info on London Record's e-mail or Warners, please post it here. I don't think it'll make much difference, business being business, but at least they'll get some idea of our displeasure with the box set as is.

I would argue for a far more comprehensive set spanning the 20-odd year arc of NO's career, with a live disc thrown in spanning some classic shows (not the entire gigs, just choice tracks). otherwise, I ain't buying!

I have a question or thought: Does NO have absoluetly no say in any of their releases? Is the theory here that the box set and best of release was put together completely without NO's input? If thats the case, I can understand why we're disappointed with the cds. If they do, then maybe they just have poor taste in putting together compilations. By the way, do they ever even see this site or our opinions-posts?? Does anyone know if NO has ever acknowledged NOO? At one of my fav bands sites, we get emails from at least one of the members of the band on a weekly basis and they know whats going on with the site. Thats pretty cool. Im not complaining, but it would be so great if Barney or Hooky took the time to do something like that. Just a thought... :D

who's stupid idea was it to get "celebrities" to select the tracklistings? Who the fuck is Carmen Miranda or whoever that chick is? Why John McCready, who is also doing liner notes for the Stone Roses latest cash-in...and who gave Gillespie the right to select the live cuts? just because he and Barney spend night after night snorting tons of coke together? probably....Pickering's selection is decent and i sort of understand getting the man who made the hacienda the place to be getting a hand in but this is ridiculous...Zero fan input equals Zero fan interest....where's that email address...better yet where's the front door...MartinLuther style!!! Slow Jam, Run Wild? Certainly Primitive Notion beats these two hands down....Celebrity discs are shite....i suppose the next studio album will also feature "guest collabortions" that will further piss me off...new order don't need anyone else.....

No Age of Consent on either disc one or disc two...the list of mistakes will continue to grow....let's see should we put Age of Consent or Run Wild on the Early Disc....let's think hard about this so we don't make any mistakes....ok, RunWild was released earlier than today so that counts as Early...

You can launch every missle in the whole world into the sky spelling "IV Sucks" and they will not change the track listing a few weeks before the supposed release. So, pitch a fit, invite all your friends, pitch a bigger fit, and when all is said and done the record company will continue doing whatever they want to and you (and all your NO friends) will go straight to the store and purchase it the moment it comes out, just like International. So, I suggest you lubricate now because you will end up taking it just like the rest of us when you shovel out whatever price they attach the set that could NEVER match the wants of the most fanatical NO fans. Let's face it, they would never have satisfied us, fanatical fans are never happy with anything a record company produces when they commence with the "repackaging" cycle of a band's waining career. Call it the "Hendrix/Smiths" model if you will. From here on out, all the NO you or I will ever see is the same old substance... minus the substance. That is why we live and die by the bootleg.

you know, i think we had very high expectations for this box set...mainly cuz...IT'S A FOOKING BOX SET! it is a well known expectation and fact that only die-hard fans would buy a box set of any artist. so, of coarse there are higher expectations associated with box sets mainly cuz of price and cuz of your very specified audience.

DIE-HARD fans of any band know everything there is to know about the band, probably owns everything and they(or should i say WE) expect nothing but the highest quality for our large investment of cash. a box set calls attention for the highest quality of work just cuz of our $$$ investment and it's insulting for the record companies to think that we would pay for such a rehash. we want amazing artwork and lots of fooking rarities and the best of the best.

if you're a good business man and want to make any money from a box set, nothing less than what is up above will do. like i said before, only DIE HARD new order fans will buy this, not some guy off the street who vaguely remembers likeing bizarre love triangle as a teenager. so why is tracklisting look like a combination of substance and best of with a bunch of remixes and live tracks?

i'm being repetitive here, but i think i know why we feel so strongly about the lack of quality in the box set. just cuz....IT'S A FOOKING BOX SET AND BOX SETS ARE A BIG DEAL CUZ THEY ARE DAMN PRICEY AND TO A CERTAIN EXTENT, THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE A REWARD TO LONG-TIME DIE-HARD FANS CUZ WE ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO WILL EVER CONSIDER SHELLING OUT THE $$$$ FOR A BOX SET.

One thing NO fans can do is to release their own and have a distribution list. It would be a big thing to do but it's been done successfully many times on the Paul Weller "Splinters" forum on Yahoo.

We fans would get what we want and maybe a copy could be sent to NO and Warners to show them how a REAL career-spanning compilation SHOULD be done.
