Obviously there were no fans of decent music in the people surveyed.

I heard New Order on BBC 6 Music. "Big deal" right? But wait, this is quite good.

Soulwax did not one mix for 6 Music this Christmas but two. Both on Friday. Kinda. One was on around Midday and the other at Midnight that night (might be technically Saturday but who's counting?). Reminds me of the Chemical Brothers mix for Lauren from 2015. Can't believe that's two years ago!!

The daytime mix is a cheesy but fun Christmas songs mix. You can listen to it HERE from about 2Hrs7Min, and when you get to 2Hrs21Min22Sec there's a snippet of everyone's favourite flexi tune: Ode To Joy. And Y'know it sounds kinda alright in snippet form here.

The less gimicky Midnight mix can be found HERE. The talking/interview starts at around 29 mins, the music starts around 36 mins. I haven't listened to all of this one but what I've heard sounds pretty good - if you like the Soulwax boys in their 2ManyDJs mode.

Yes it was Dick or "Richard McCourt" as he was called on the night. I believe he was spotted at the Troxy gig back in 2011. And this explains why Hooky had a tweet from Dick N Dom a while ago asking for a follow-back and a DM.

I get the feeling that the celebrity version of Mastermind is a bit easier than the regular one. Those with access to BBC iplayer can watch the New Order bit at 6mins 15secs HERE. I believe 12 questions were asked. Dick got 7, I got ten. But yeah it probably is harder when John Humphries has you in the spotlight.

Fuck me, that was hard, especially number 8. I had no idea... Blue Monday's a real rarity too. You'd have to be pretty hard-core to know anything about that particular ditty. It was only released once and is never played live either. I got everything except The Beach Club. You're right though: half the struggle is coping with the spotlight. I've been an amateur comedian for around 10 years and still shit myself in front of a small, supportive audience. In a similar vein...

Not particularly. In the heat of the moment I'd've got 2 wrong: first gig 'Hurrah' (not even the UK) and FACT 100 'Movement'. Still, I haven't been an obsessive for 20 years so it ain't bad... Ok, I've edited the Stephen Morris "Synth Heroes" post above with links to the show. Funnily enough his taste in synth tune-age is pretty good!

I always thought that Barney was the driving force for electronics in the band, but listening to Disc 2 of the 'New Order presents Be Music' comp, it's fairly evident that it was Stephen and Gillian were equally as influential.

Hooky has a very nice new motor on his drive, not a car freak but think its either a Porsche or a Ferrari!!

Blue Monday over the closing credits of Dress To Impress yesterday (don't normally watch such highbrow programmes at 7 in the morning but I wasn't in a rush to go to work so thought I'd take some time to watch this gem that has been stashed in the early morning schedules by ITV) - but it might be on the end titles for every episode for all I know.

Not sure if this was posted before, but was looking through Hooky's IMDB page today and noticed that he's featured in a documentary called '1599: A True Story of the Elizabethan Court '. Thought it was probably an error, but then found a trailer for it:

Oh a good one for the New Order spotters. In Ready Player One, the (excellent) new Spielberg film, the bulk of Blue Monday is played in an early scene where the two main characters go to a dance club in the Oasis. Then later, in the real life scenes, the female lead wears an Unknown Pleasures t shirt for a good bit of her screen time. In the final scene, a woman in a Technique tour T-shirt (the very type I got way back when) walks up to one of the main bad guys and mouths off to him.

Just been to see 'Ready Player One'. Pretty good film. Quite entertaining.

That Technique t-shirt is a 'blink and you'd miss it' appearance, but the JD one is very prominent. Not quite as prominent as that episode of the Limitless TV series, but still pretty good.

Blue Monday really sounded great booming out in the club. Couldn't believe how much of it they played. Was kind of expecting that they would fade it out before the vocals kicked in. Was pleasantly surprised that they didn't though.

Interesting thing about Ready Player One. It actually takes place in the city I grew up in, Columbus Ohio. The author of the book lived in Columbus in the 80's and 90's and his books are filled with Columbus references, street intersections, ect. The writer is also apparently a big New Order/Joy Division fan, so I'd imagine all of the references in the film are quite intentional on the directors part as well. I've not seen the film yet.

It's just over three minutes of the track (to be exact-ish). From 42 mins to 45 mins in the film.

Great spots on the Technique T-shirt, people! I think I would have missed it if I hadn't seen these comments. I used to have that Tee as well. The elastic eventually "rusted" and it went in the bin . I dont miss people asking me "is he having a wank?" when I wore it though... As for BM, perhaps unusually for films & TV, they skipped the opening minute of the track. So it fades in around the start of Hook's bass circa 1.16 (original 12") and it gets cut off around 4.28 with "tell me how does it feel when your heart [grows cold]" They couldn't leave it til Bernard sang the last two words? Tsh.

If I were to put my fashion police hat on, I might suggest the UP Tee was technically a vest: player one pleasures
