I caught the end of Bernard talking about his book, his mother illness and how Superheated took 3 years to finish recording. I liked the song. Sounds like a good way to round of the album.

They played Superheated. First time I've heard it!

Jo Wiley though....sigh, tut.At the start of the show she said how New Order are her favourite band ever; she says that about every single band! Mostly about Coldplay though.Coldplay are often her favourite band until a new album comes out by another band and then that band are her favourite band ever.

Great interview that, though i felt Jo Wiley was hurrying Bernard at times.Bit nik picky but her and Bernard said she had never interviewed him before but she has- on Radio 1 in November 1998.

The Maida Vale thing is going to be 1 hour set then- great stuff. And it will be at 12 noon (not so great for me as i'll probably be at work).Will hopefully catch it all later in the day on the red button.

Bernard Sumner says La Roux isn't on Plastic but the credits on the sleeve says she is. I don't know what to believe. I think he's wrong, which is funny.

Plastic...Dawn Zee.. Denise Johnson on vocals..backing vocals La Roux. Says it here. In an interview they explained that they used her vocal.texture or something along with the other two singers.

He was probably being funny about Here To Stay. Or forgot whatever other compilation album..bside...it was on as it wasn't on an actual album. not a proper album.

The second Bad Lieutenant album was rumored around then and Stuart Price, who produced Superheated, was producing the BL2. Betcha it was originally intended for that effort

Superb. Many thanks.Good to hear last bit of interview which the DJ had to cut from original broadcast because of running out of time.Probably the most in depth interview ever about a New Order album.Good that the podcast has just brief snippets of the songs and concentrates more on the interview.

Good point, because John Kennedy ran out of time on the original broadcast, so this podcast actually covers the last 18 minutes that we missed. It's also easier to skip through on itunes than on the Radio X player. Well worth a listen if you want to hear Bernard talking A LOT about the album. Around 18 mins from the end of the itunes podcast, Bernard more or less denies that NO's music is 'complete' or "it's over" (as per another thread here). "Nice try" he says to JK. "You're not gonna get a scoop".

Interesting to also hear him mention Daniel Miller's hands-on approach around 3 or 4 mins from the end.

i remember the interview she did with him in 98

he was talking about putting recycle together and they played world in motion from reading....i also remember him on her tv show when he was winding keith out of the prodidgy up quite a bit

odd that she said it was the first time she'd interviewed him!?

on the subject of her saying they're her favorite band to be fair to her i've heard her say it before

i remember seeing her book once when i was in the library with the kids and at the back she lists her fav bands and she says as much in their too

Fair enough Yeah i remember the Channel 4 thing when Bernard was on with Keith Flint ( around 1999-2000 i think) as well as the Radio 1 Nov 1998 like i said earlier.Yeah bit weird she forgot both of those if Bernard is one of her all time idols. Saw her once at Milton Keynes train station.A lot shorter and petite than i thought she was.Just sayin!

That's weird i just looked up the audio file i have which i thought was the Jo Wiley interview from Nov 1998 and it does NOT sound like her so maybe she's right! Unless it's a different radio 1 interview - i just have it named as "Bernard Sumner Radio 1 Nov 98" But i'm sure there was also a Jo Wiley interview with Bernard on Radio 1 that i listened to live one lunchtime around late 1998.It was kind of to promote the then upcoming Christmas and New Year gigs at Manc Evening News Arena and Ally Pally. The old memory playing tricks on me i guess.

I've put the interview up on YouTube.Seeing as it's such an in-depth look at the album and the making of it and probably the only interview there'll be of such length and depth about Music Complete it was worth putting out there.

It's presumably late night as there are some mild swear words. It's quite a lengthy Q&A interview, which would also signify a late night show, as the format doesn't really fit with afternoon / early evening 'light' entertainment.

I really don't recognise the interviewer and can't think of who it might be.

Anybody got any idea?

I think the second BL album morphed into MC. Around that time the Barnster said he had an EP ready but it was too dancey for BL, and Academic was maybe a BL demo originally.

I dug out the file of the interview on my laptop, wondering if i right clicked on properties there'd be some more helpful info supplied by whoever created the mp3 ( i think i downloaded it from Soulseek years ago) but no.Just "bernard_sumner_radio1_interview_november98" .It's deffo from that time as at one point Bernard mentions the Rock Family Trees tv programme having been shown a couple of months before and that was broadcast in September 98.And he talks about the band getting back together and had played Reading that year.The woman is definitely not Jo Whiley.But Bernard did deffo also appear on Jo Whiley's Radio 1 show around the same time, same month even (Nov 98).

I've been looking recently for the interview Bernard did with Jo Whiley in September 2015, the night before Music Complete was released.I listened to it live at the time and recall Jo playing Superheated at the end.I didn't "grab" the interview though.Would like to hear it again so would appreciate if anyone who has it could share.Thanks!

Sorry. - I don’t have that Jo Whiley 2015 interview. It’s one of the ones that I’m missing.

The last few weeks, I’ve been cataloguing all the radio interviews I know about. I’m up to 400+ at present. Crazy, eh?

The exercise is a trifle demoralising at times. I feel like I’m holding back the tide. I start checking listings for a particular radio show, only to find another 5 or 6 I’ve missed.

I know I’ll never get them all listed, but I’m doing my best.

If I find the interview you mentioned, I’ll be sure to pass it on.
