I feel exactly the same way: Gillian has always been the key to New Order. The fact that they release their best album in 25 years after Hook's departure and her return supports that.

While I agree Gillian's input is a key ingredient to New Order's classic sound, we can't discount the band's (and yes Hooky, especially Bernard's) conscious decision to pursue the more synth-oriented direction of Music Complete.

Gillian, how did you come to rejoin as a full member of the band?

GG: I re-joined because our friend, Michael Shamberg who produced New Order videos, got this really serious brain disease. He lived in New York and couldn’t afford his medical expenses. At that time, Hooky had already decided that he wanted to leave and we were all involved in the Control film so there wasn’t much of a band going on. I got asked to do a few benefit gigs in Paris, Brussels, and London, at the beginning of summer in 2011. In the time I’d been away I’d done a lot of music in the studio, and Stephen and I did some soundtrack stuff together for Channel 4. So I was always doing music but I had this idea about singing as well. As I got back into New Order, I thought I’d like to do a bit of singing, so I did a track, which still hasn’t come out. But essentially they asked me to come back, and I was like, “Oh, okay.”

I thought this was the most interesting bit, reads like there are more songs probably in demo form, and at least one sung by Gillian

I think she's referring to a Koishii & Hush track, not a New Order one.

Old thread revivial time. The bit where Gillian says "In the time I'd been away I’d done a lot of music in the studio, and Stephen and I did some soundtrack stuff together for Channel 4." I don't believe she's talking aboout the old Reportage stuff (which was BBC or ITV I think). I think she's talking about somewhere between 2001 and 2011. Anyone know what soundtrack stuff that might be?

Gillian and Steve did Cracker in the mid-2000s, which I knew about, and IMDB says they also did something for channel 4 called Gold Plated, which I haven't heard of, but seems to have a good cast.

Huh? I remember reading about Crackers but I never saw it. Oh dear. The Other Two's official website used to have snippets along with info but it's disappeared now. You can fiud the mucous minus the info on Soundcloud but I won't do this as I find the Other Two about as stimulating as finding a dead trout on Skegness beach on a November morning while listening to a ferret quoting Blackadder and impersonating Rory Bremner impersonating Bob Monkhouse.
