2015 Vinyl Reissues/Remasters - Republic/Get Ready/WFTSC/Singles

The whole 80s revival thing has been going on since the late 90s. I remember going out clubbing a lot in Hollywood when Electroclash and "80s clubs" was a big thing. I wouldn't even call it a revival anymore, it just keeps going. Since you mentioned it, I've actually been starting to see "90s night" type club events popping up around my city. I've been to a few and they mostly just play rap and r&b. Plus fashion wise, everyone looks grunge in this city. It's 99% jeans, flannel and hooded sweaters all around me.

I kind of agree as well, although I do love my analog synths and will most likely be buried with my Juno-60, haha. I got myself a DX11 and DX100 not too long ago and love all the weird, glitchy sounds I can mangle out of them. They are much more exciting to experiment with than analog. I also own a CZ-101 (the smaller CZ-1000), but programming it isn't very fun. There's no data slider and you have to keep tapping buttons to edit the parameters. You don't really get as many happy accidents on it like you can with the DX synths.

i picked up republic, and get ready for very cheap prices for the vinyl. (under $15 each). will wait for 'waiting for the sirens call' to come down in price.

already had 'republic' on vinyl before. so it will be possible to compare them.

That's what bothers me. I've got the original CDs for all of them and "The Factory Years" deluxe CDs with all of the original mastering errors but I've held off from buying new copies as there doesn't seem to be any way of guaranteeing that I'll get the "best" versions.

Does anybody know a foolproof way to get them?

The "bests" versions don't have the translucent slipcase.

The new remasters are only on the digital formats so far.

@edspess: Digital only. If you want lossless, I *think* Qobuz sell them, but I haven't bought these from there so can't confirm.

I've just picked up Technique on vinyl with a download code; I am interested to see whether the download code yields a remastered album, we shall find out! (or more likely: I won't be able to tell conclusively one way or the other.)

Quite honestly I never hear the difference in remasters so I rarely bother with them. Radical remixes are different.

Me neither, almost always. These NO remasters are one of the exceptions.

I'll take your word for it. There are only so many times you can retread the same ground.

I think if you use the download code on the Technique vinyl you'll get the 2008 remastered version. Whether you'll get the "corrected" remaster or not I wouldn't like to say as I've not redeemed mine. I'm fairly confident that you won't get the 2015 download with the 2009 vinyl unless Rhino have put in forward thinking. Which is unlikely.

I'm honestly not sure how the mechanics of digital downloads work, but I imagine that most of the stores, including the fronts where you redeem codes from, have access to a feed of music from somewhere "upstream". So when the other retailers (iTunes etc) have all of their stock updated to be the 2015 remasters, I imagined that the mp3 code redeeming websites would too. But I've no idea.

I didn't buy any of the 2008 remasters in any format. The redeemed Technique sounds a bit better/different to what I'm used to ('89 CD master), less of a dramatic difference than Movement or Low-Life, but then it would whether it was the 2008 or 2015 remasters, so that doesn't help :)

If anyone is curious and has a confirmed 2008 or 2015 remaster of Technique and would like to 'compare notes' please PM me.

The 2015 remaster of Technique has two glitches which the 2008 version doesn't have.

Track 2 - All the Way At 2:51, you'll hear the tape speed jump for a split second

Track 4 - Round & Round At 0:00, you'll hear the tape jump in speed again for a split second on the very first snare hit

The 2015 version also seems to have a touch more bass EQ added. Other than that, they sound pretty much identical.

ok, got the 'waiting for the sirens call' vinyl for cheap also. haven't listened to it yet.

• republic on vinyl sounded ok, didn't notice much of an improvement

• get ready, again didn't notice much of a difference, however the volume seemed low on it.

just have to wait for 'singles' to be released now.

Just listened to the FLAC remaster of WFTSC, and Turn's intro sounds different - to me the bass is brought forward. I like the change. Have not dug into the others. This was the most obvious.

And WFTSC was the one album I was unsure on getting since it was the latest released in this batch.

Anyone know why GR was not digitally released? Was the band not happy with the remaster?

My local JBHiFi here in Oz tonight had vinyl remasters of Still, Movement and Brotherhood for 24.95 AUD. Already have BH, was tempted to get the others. But I was listening to Movement (Original GAP pressing) last night and man, not sure how that sound could be bettered...
