What is your favorite New Order song and why?

All Day Long - such a beautiful tune and poetic lyrics. Oh no sorry, I was thinking of Thieves Like Us.

Their cover of "BENNY AND THE JETS" which they changed to eventually become "VANISHING POINT".:D

All the way or Love Less are the best cos the band recorded them in honour of my contribution to their lives.

I'd be lying to myself if i didnt say i thought SPECIAL its debatably one of the most powerful NO songs have ever recorded, both in lyrics, lyric delivery and in musical mood.

I like to think of it like me "NO comfort blanket" when in times of need

Love Less is a fan-fuckin-tastic tune i NEVER tire of hearing and scream my head off along to the lyrics whenever played!!!!!!

oops my first ever edit ;) (check if u dont believe me!!) still cant get a post about SPECIAL wrong now!!

Well said Inta

I was going to mention Special in your Cult songs thread and then I thoght I was going to be left alone there.

Special is the ultimate New Order song. I´m intoxicated, everytime I hear it.... Three minutes of sheer joy and beauty.

Nikos,

You should check also: Your Silent Face and Leave me alone (from Power, Corruption & lies, a CD you must rush out and buy) :thumb:

TEMPTATION

Always has been, and always will be:nod:

You know what i love about TEMPTATION is that lately when performed live Barney starts off looking like he really cant be bothered and not really "getting into it" but as the song progresses his whoops and yells get louder he starts punching the air and spinning round and by the end you can tell he's totally and utterly living the song!!!!

a good example is Reading 98, Brixton and MOVE

Maybe he doesnae look "into" it at the start because he has to concentrate on his geetar solo;) always love the "last fookin time" part and the "1,2,3,4" and go mental parts:D Watched Brixton last night....and Temptation easily got the biggest response from the crowd, and it's always funny hearing the fans singing the oooh, ooooooh bits (so out of tune it's scary:lol: )

What is 'really' quite intriguing is the rise and rise of Temptation from NO song to good NO song to quite brilliant NO song to amazing live NO song to, erm, could this be their most standout moment?

In 1987 when Substitute came out Temptation was in the pretty good stage ... then the re-mix knocked it back a bit as it never captured the original biting vibrancy. Reading '98 brought a new wave of Temptation interest and personally I find this version the best out of any. Which is saying something as it misses the 'bolts from above' glorious lyric from the end.

But the power, the intensity ... ohhh you could eat with a boiled egg.

Temptation in Brum 1986 (Tower Ballroom again I know) takes some beating, very powerful and great singing by Barney, give it a listen. Followed by Ceremony, complete bliss!

... but in terms of 'favourite or best NO song' I take this as best song to me - which has to be either TMSausages over before they burn, Processor or the fabulous Leave My Wife Alone.

You see, I'm listening real close like, you know, like idiosyncraitc listening. I want to hear the nuances and I want to be carried off to a distant island with my closed cup headphones on real comfortable ... sipping JD and PMax with visions and images and the past and the future. I want only me to hear the song but I want everyone to know. Somtimes I want the song to finish so that I can play it again.

When I want to dance around in the front room as if I was Barney I play 3:16 Temptation with a cushion for a strat. and knock lights and cups over like there's no tomorrow.

I go mental when I listen to Temptation in my car (and sing along with Barney very loud). Passers by look at me as if I was a fool in an aquarium. May bolts from above hit them.

Huntsy - have you heard the live version of Procession from Central London Poly'85 - absolutely magnificent.

There's too many songs to have an overall favourite but mine are Thieves, Lonesome Tonight, Procession, Sooner Than You Think, Don't Do It, Ecstasy and of course Ceremony.

I've been listening to Movement alot recently and what an underrated album that actually is.

Damn hard to choose a favourite...i really do like "1963" the original as well as the 1995 Arthur Baker-Remix. I love "Lonesome Tonight" because of the brilliant guitars, keyboards and Barney's "throat clearing". The whole Technique-album in it's full beauty is so brilliant, "Loveless" has the most beautiful lyrics in a New Order-song..."Special" is the highlight of an almost weak album, "Leave Me Alone" is a brilliant state of a "work in progress of finding identity" ...sorry i am not able to decide ;)

I'd say "True Faith" for me. That was the song that originally got me into New Order... which saddly enough I first heard on MTV.

But it's all part of the story. At first I saw the video when I was about 13 or so, and I just fell in love with it. I remember writing the band name down, but somehow I lost it. Four years later, I met this guy in highschool who was a big JD fan, so he let me borrow JD and NO's "Substance" albums. Sure enough it had "True Faith", and I was nearly in tears. I had that song stuck in my head for all that time, and finally it was mine. So from there I went out and bought everything. The End... and the new best of sucks.

My God, except for seeing it on MTV (I saw it on VH1) and a HS friend who was into it, that's exactly how it was for me!!

Oh yeah, my fave song is This Time of Night, if you haven't heard it lately, play it!

probably tbthog, vanis.point, ruined in a day, procession, crystal, and the NO in heaven mix of spooky.

wel, Ceremony has to my favorite, its just so brilliant, the New Order version is like the band saying goodbye to ian, and at the same time his lyrics sound like hes telling every1 he will be watching over them, weither he ends up 'forever, watching love grow, forever, letting me know'. or on second thoughts maybe bizzare love triangle...

I can't decide between Procession, Theives Like Us, or Temptation.
