New Order are announcing or releasing something new on September 8.

Is this the Alexandra Palace "Education Entertainment Recreation" I wonder?

A new studio album?

That’d be something eh

Doubtful, but they've surprised us before!

My money is on the Ally Pally CD/DVD.

But I guess it could be the unreleased 'Music Complete' track, "Be A Rebel" that Bernard and Steve were working on. Possibly as an EP.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to get a new non-album single with proper A and B sides, like the old days?

Totally.

Although I haven't really been into the Pet Shop Boys since the late 80s, they do single releases so well. CD singles, 12"s, proper b-sides etc.

To be fair though, I was very pleased that New Order released CD singles for the 'Music Complete' singles. Much as I liked some of the remixes, I'd have killed for 2 or 3 b-sides over the 4 single releases.

"Be A Rebel" please!

My gut feeling is for Be A Rebel. If it was the Alexandra Palace DVD/CD i feel they would just announce that out of the blue one day with release date etc.The fact they've made an announcement , erm, that there's going to be a big announcement on 08.09.20 feels to me more like it's going to be new material i.e Be A Rebel.Or even the track will be released digitally that day?? But who knows.Just me gut feeling.

Someone on a Facebook group has pointed out that, to the top left corner of the murmuration shown in the image, there are one or two birds not flying in sync.

This could indicate that each bird has decided to 'be a rebel'.

I'm not sure I'm 100% behind this hypothesis, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Meh. I'm not even 1% behind that theory.

I keep going back to the Mojo Live Track thread. Reading Johnny James' comments. The Ally Pally live album/video is imminent, he told us. He also told us something new is coming. Could Rebel be packaged with the live thingy? Could it be a bit like U2s Rattle & Hum? Part live album/DVD, with some new (unreleased) material thrown in? I guess JJ can't tell us, but we can try to read between the lines.

Yeah! And if you take 'Robert Gretton', mix the letters up, add some letters, take some letters away and then mix them up again, it clearly spells Abbey Road, which gave the Beatles an LP title, just as All Saints gave All Saints All Saints, and they were rivals to the Spice Girls, who included Geri, whose nickname was Ginger, which was also the name of a secondary character in the William Books by Richmal Crompton, who also wrote books about Jimmy, which is a variant on the name James, just like James Dean, who was in Rebel without A cause, and if you read that without 'without' and 'cause' you get Rebel A, and Cause starts with C, which is before B, which sounds exactly like Be, and if you read those three words backwards what does it say? What more proof do you need? It was staring me in the fucking face.

Thanks for making me laugh out loud for the first time since Berlusconi got his face busted.

I think the Be a Rebel theory is valid.

Agreed. I think that artwork lends itself to Be A Rebel far more than other possibilities.

Still wish they’d called it something else.

Sense of humour? You're in the wrong place.

^ Ah but he did it without mentioning a girl band, or indeed bitching about a certain drummer who might he funnier than he is.

Meanwhile, it seems that Be A Rebel was briefly available to listen to on Apple Music Japan around the 20th of August. But then disappeared. Probably uploaded too early. This suggests it is imminent IMHO.

Twitter translated this for me as: "I heard about two minutes last night. Somehow the image was like Lost Siren"

You know, if this was an outtake from Get Ready or WFTSC I wouldn't get my hopes up, but music Complete is SO GOOD. They put in the effort, and it really shows - particularly with Barney's lyrics.

Yeah - I think my current view of New Order after GR and WFTSC is to fear the worst and maybe end up pleasantly surprised. That was definitely the case with Music Complete. Still love it as an album. After the outright underwhelming soggy biscuit that was Lost Sirens, and Hooky leaving - it was a revelation to find that they still had something

Hey there Hooky, don’t be a rebel Turn down your fucking bass and order me a treble Hey there hooky, don’t be a rebel Cos music complete sounds incredible

“Due to current studies, the fiscal climate isn’t looking good” - Academic

I agree that the lyrics of MC were excellent except for this one dodger of a line. I mean come on, Barney could you not think of ANYTHING less clunky? I wish Steve and Gillian would have put their foot down on that one. I don’t let it ruin the song for me but man alive this is the single worst line I’ve ever heard Mr. Sumner utter in a song.

“I've been accused of everything From Timbuktu to old Berlin”

C’mon, that’s got to be worse.

I could’ve picked any line from that song, to illustrate my point. Just picked the first two, for ease...

I've often wondered whether Bernard meant 'old Berlin' in the sense of the age of the city or in the sense of 'Oh you old Berlin you'. 'Back in good old Berlin, the cheeky little city, so it is'

We may never know for sure.
