Favorite New Order Album

"Technique" for me, the melting pot of all that makes New Order so unique, touching and outstanding.

Technique and Low-life are indeed probably their best albums. I voted however for PC&L because it is their most creative album. It was a giant's step from Movement and Joy Division, and it set the bases of New Order's unique sound, together with Temptation and Blue Monday.

Technique definitely the best. However, I have a real soft spot for Brotherhood, though I'm not sure why............

I can't stand Technique, it is their second worst after Republic. I guess I am an old school fan, seeing as I've been disappointed with everything after True Faith.

Republic for me right now. Spooky and Everyone Everywhere are SO COOL. I also count Technique and Get Ready as faves, depends on what I'm listening to at the moment...

Hmm so so difficult as Technique is probably their BEST album but Brotherhood is my FAVOURITE album hence my vote has been made.

My fav is Get Ready cuz it got me into NO. It will always bring back the best memories and get me teary eyed... But Brotherhood really moves me, I think its one of their best, at least second to Technique, which it seems most people here think is the best

Technique. I just love the mix of guitar tracks with dance tracks, it blends very nice.

Technique is my favourite, with Low Life a close second, then Brotherhood and Get Ready just after that.

Technique is just brilliant, no huge hits or anything just everything which epitimises new order and the songs finished off perfectly.

Low life is the best and most "comlete" album in my opinion. Never even thought about skipping a single track while listening to it (ok maybe elegia sometimes when I want to sing along).

PCL is certainly creative and brilliant but the sound hasn't quite gelled yet to be complete.

Technique would be my 2nd favorite....might be 1st except for Fine Time which does not fit with anything else on the album (should have been issued as a separate single in my opinion...should have released Vanishing Point as a single in my opinion...)

I honestly don't see people's attraction in Technique. Vnishing point would be my favourite song from it but everything else I just find mediocre. I haven't heard republic or brotherhood yet but judging from what others in this thread have said, brotherhood will be on the list next time HMV have a sale!!

I voted for "movement" myself as I like the majority of songs on it. A very close second would be PC&L but is let down by that Godawful song "we all stand". With pure belters like Age of Consent, Your Silent Face and Leave Me Alone, how could they sleep at night knowing they vandalised that album?

Since I can only vote for one, I'll list the albums in order which I like them. I'd explain why, but that could take days.

it was very hard to choose between PCL and Low Life... I chose PCL, for the innovative aspect.

Also voted for PC&Lies. First NO album I bought and contains all time classics such as AOC,YSF&LMA.

On balance, Technique. Their most consistent album. All great songs. Would buy it for Mr Disco alone.

Still think a lot of Movement, though. Like Ceremony, a link with the past.

Technique was the first full New Order album I ever got, up til then I had just a handful of singles. Aside from the nostalgia factor, it really nailed their sound down. It's so cohesive, and still sounds great.

But these days, Get Ready is almost tied with Technique, as far as favorite album goes....

The one I'm listening to most at the moment is Movement - never gets the credit it deserves IMHO.

Its impossible to vote for one as really the first 4 albums should get a joint first but if I was pushed I'd have to say Low Life.

If the Technique songs had been as good in a live setting I'd have voted for that, but Low Life gets the Benny nod for the overall feelgood factor.

i love "brotherhood" it is so underrated, but if you listen to it you will realise that this album FUCKEN ROCKS.

I voted for Low-Life, enjoy it very much, but was closely followed by movement and republic

I went for Get Ready, for its diversity as well as single brilliance. You've got rockers (Primitive N, 60 MPH), hilosophical reflection (Turn My Way), You-Hurt-Me-And-I-Hate-You (Vicious Streak), disco slant (Someone Like You), perfect pop/rock (Close Range), mega-chorus (Crystal), Great-To-Be-Alive (Slow Jam), and ends with a beautiful acoustic ballad (Run Wild). I'd like to see any other artist do that in 10 tracks!

I choose PCL only because my favorite NO album was actually Substance. It was my first one, has great versions of the studio tracks, and offers a wonderful sampling of NO's sound up until that point. Still can't get enough of that album

Same for me but is closely followed by Low Life. Two perfect albums that have never been bettered.

Low Life just ahead of Technique. A complete album with no bad songs. Technique has Run and Fine Time which I'm not a big fan off.

It's hard to say: my vote goes to Low-Life, cause it was my first album!

Low-Life, without a doubt, followed by Power, Corruption & Lies.

i, in a feeling previously expressed, am not a huge fan of Technique. beyond Vanishing Point and Dream Attack (and Run, to an extent), i think the album is incredibly over-produced and mediocre in comparison to L-L or PC&L. and the only song off of Technique that can even compete with songs like Age of Consent, 5 8 6, This Time of Night, Elegia, and the LP mix of Subculture is Vanishing Point.

but who knows? maybe it'll grow on me.

I voted for Technique; it was the first NO album I got after Substance. Summer on a CD! :)

i think Technique is their most subtle album. i think it's catchy, but not as much so as Low-Life. that's surprising to me that they would think that.

I love Low-Life, I love Technique too, but PC&L is THE album which defined New Order and which you can hear in all their subsequent work. And I bought it when it came out. There is nothing which compares to "Your Silent Face" played live in an auditorium. The building shakes. Royal Festival Hall, May 1985.

I can' believe I haven't seen this one yet... Three-horse race, Technique wins over PCL and Low-life, but only just. It's the most compact album, not neccesairly with the best songs on it, but it sort of works best as an album.

To celebrate my first post: 1- PCL 2- Low Life 3- 1981-1982 (Factus 8; EP no album; deserves this position based on time I listen to it) 4- Get Ready 5- Movement etc

Why? The impact it made when I first heard them especially PCL. Order changes in time though as new times come along and go again.

Technique has always been my favorite, its amazing from start to finish, and has such an engaging, beautiful sound, so thoroughly entrancing. PCL and Low-life are interchangable in how they effect me with one exception. While Low-Life works better as an album (essentially its fantastic from start to finish), PCL has a great supply of classic songs with Age of Consent and Leave Me Alone and Your Silent Face all ranking among my top ten favorites (no songs off of Low-Life make my top ten, well, maybe Sooner than you think), while PCL has dreck that Low Life does not have (We All Stand, the first ninety seconds of 5 8 6, ultraviolence)its magnificent songs definitely make up for thos weaknesses. For me, its Technique, PCL, Low-Life and Substance (though Substance is not a true album) that are must have's, the rest range from good (brotherhood, get ready) to mediocre (Republic) to just plain weak (Movement).

PCL... it's a band following their muse in a brave new direction, and making it the basis for a new life. Oh, and not to forget: some incredible songs on it, too :-)

Sub Culture a great song from low-life. I won't bother with which album because each is unique in its on way,If you were to ask you tommorow the same question I would have changed my mind and listed another song from another album?

Technique is a close second.

It was hard to pick between "Brotherhood" and "Low Life" but I voted for "Low Life" because even thought there are songs that I like much more than others, it fits together into a cohesive whole like no other.

"Brotherhood" would be a close second though, I think I like the guitar based work on it more than that of "Technique" and "Get Ready".

Well, has to be "Power, Corruptions & Lies" for the sheer mood of the album. Like you get covered in a nice warm blanket in an icy night. But what's this backlash on their first one? I mean, as I'm playing it now, it still sounds as awesome as the first time I heard it! Although it would soon be clear hereafter that there was a no-go with Hannett (who clearly stimulated the boys to do it their way), he still did a hell of a job on this soundwise and it has some haunting tunes on it.

toss up btw pc&l, low-life and brotherhood. went w/ pc&l for all the aforementioned leap-forward soundwise, etc. age of consent is one of the great album openers ever and it's got the vastly underrated "the village". your silent face is flat gorgeous as well. i think technique is the most overrated and i can't believe so many of you go for it. (furthermore i cant believe vanishing point garners the kind of love that it does here) run, mr disco (which i adore) and dream attack are probably the only songs that i ever listen to off of it.

Honestly, I find Low Life to have piss poor production (the 80's drum machine/trigger trap mostly), and the songs do not join to one cohesive unit. It's my least favorite next to movement. technique may have the bright and catchy outlook (I play it entirely on the first hot day every year and go for a drive if I can), but I'm going to go with PC&L. Songwriting is brilliant, the tracks fit together perfectly, they were ahead of their time then, it still sounds totally amazing today, and there is a balance of light and dark imagery. It sounds as elegant as the packaging, and to top it off, the color chart scheme ensures the no matter who reprints it, it will always say factory! I rank this as one of the most underrated and greatest alternative records ever made.

there are all great songs on that album and i knew that no else would vote for it its an extremley underated album maybe if it wasnt produced by m.h more people would love it cause the production on that album is pretty poor

1)PCL - subvertive, naive (ish), dark and light, pioneering & experimental with some classic NO arrangements (The village, YSF, ecstasy). Artwork TOTALLY complements the musical content. This album encapsulates TOTALLY to me what NO were all about - a treasured secret band which you wanted all to your self (selfish i know!)...but at the same time you wanted to convert all your friends to (fascist tendencies!)

2. Movement is a vastly underrated album with atmospheric and brooding arrangements - Truth has to be one of the most sinister sounding synth/rock songs ever...yes it has serious undertones but I regard this as an important and neccessary album for NO to make to put JD to rest. I still play it...

3. I re-listened to Technique last night. I never rated this album when it came out but I do like it now. Things always seem to sound better years later...nostalgia

TECHNIQUE! That;s the album that sealed my New Order fate for good. Plus when they toured the states for that was when I had seen them for the first time...I thought I had seen god!

Clearly I'll go with Low-life .... just something that resonates in me with this album....from the brilliant 'Sunrise' to the devious 'Face-Up'. I love the whole thing through and through
