Not sure if anyone is aware of this guy Phil who runs a website called "Live & Loud" where he posts live shows from FM Radio/Soundboard bootlegs, with the claim that he has somehow restored them (from what I can work out he just does some basic EQ and normalisation and removes any major glitches.) It's all harmless enough, and free downloads until you see that he's constantly plugging his Ko-Fi page for donations towards his costs (he hosts his site on google blogger and his content on mediafire so I'm not sure what major costs he has) - and in fact his free downloads are one long continuous mp3 of the gig. If you want the files split into songs then you have to donate. If you want FLAC files then you have to donate.

Anyway - his latest email says that his next show will be a New Order Soundboard from 1985. Doesn't state which show - just says "Recently started working on it and it’s already starting to sound excellent and nice and clear."

I think we can be sure that it won't be anything we don't already have, and if it was a bootleg in need of restoration then I'm sure someone else on here will have already done it and made a better job it it

will post the link when he lays his egg

Thanks Blue.

I'll certainly be interested in the link. Fingers crossed it's something new, but more likely to be something we already have. Thanks for the heads up!

It'll be one of the 'stash' sold on eBay ages ago.

Yeah - I wondered that too.

So, possibly:

15/05/85 Canterbury Court 07/12/85 Slough 13/12/85 Orleans 17/12/85 Leuven

All of which have been restored / remastered by the Analog Loyalist on his blogs (TPOIT and The New Order Archives). So, if he is revisiting one of these, a) was it really needed and b) does he hope to improve the pretty great work already done by AL?

Interesting anyway. Will see what turns up.

He claims to not do anything that has had an official release of any kind, so I guess that now rules out Leuven

He comes across as very much an amateur and there doesn't seem to be anyone in his comments applying any kind of audio rigour to his work. He's catering for the casual listener essentially

The eagle has landed and it's not one I've heard before - 20th August 1985 Henry J. Kaiser Convention Centre - Oakland, California (Soundboard)

https://www.new-order.net/no/gigs/nogigs85.html#NO-850820

ends with a big long chaotic Sister Ray

The download page is here (content warning the free mp3 contains some excruciating local radio style intro and outro by the Live & Loud guy)

https://www.liveandloudshows.com/2023/05/show-188-new-order-live-in-oakland.html

His description of his "remastering" process is pretty much the same vagueness as he writes on all the blogs

Noise reduction was done, a few pops removed and the occasional loss in volume in places. Once that was done I got to work with EQ, compression and the usual studio toys to bring some clarity to the sound mix, and just...well make everything much clearer, more powerful and generally more LIVE sounding, with more separation. The original sounded like it had been worked on at some point but the kick drums all the way through were overloaded and a bit distorted, so I dialled that back too. The final result sounds far more balanced now (and less likely to give you a headache). I also improved the stereo imaging a bit during the mastering process.

No mention of where the source soundboard came from

Thanks for this.

Looks like he got DMC'd as it's been removed.

Think I have that 'original version' anyway.

Shame it wasn't anything 'new'.

Appears to be working for me now.

It definitely had a 'DMC removal' screen when I tried it yesterday. Maybe he updated the link and provided a new one.
