Bernard is a fan of the Smashing Pumpkins.

Blame Barney's son for introducing Smashing Pumpkins to his father.

I like The Pumpkins quite a bit, but I thought "Turn My Way" was wretched. It sounds like Billy and Barney are squeezing each other's balls while singing.

I think Corgan ruins this song. I hate his voice and it comes off as a total gimmick. Another blemish in the decaying ethics of New Order.

I didn't feel that way at first, but I've come around to agree that it was a mistake.

its a nice song ... and while the Pumpkins have always been a bit too mainstream for my odd interests, Corgan wrote some nice toons during the 90s, interests here seem a bit narrow at times, not in the spirit of New Order...

i thought that a little chubby teenage Billy Corgan met (had dinner with?) the band in the mid 80s when New Order toured thru Chicago... or is that just legend...?

i thought the pairing of new order and billy corgan was fantastic--'turn my way' is a top song in my opinion and, yes, i do like the smashing pumpkins quite a lot! :D

my musical interests are as varied as anyone I know. I have never like the Pumpkins with the exceptions being Rhinocerous and 1979. Corgan's voice just doesn't pair well with Bernards. It sounds forced and unnecessary in my opinion. New Order do not need "guest stars" to make their records more interesting or marketable. I don't think they sold many extra copies because of Corgan or Gillespie. It cheapens the album in my eyes.

it's definitely the trendy thing to do for revered music veterns like NO. but i'm not upset about corgan on the record, and i quite liked it. though the song sounds like a pumkins song...

í don't have any adverse reaction to the pumkins, although i do think corgan does come off as an elitist musician...you know "i'm the only one that makes music that matters" kind of attitude. it was certainly in full swing when the pumkins broke up.

I have to admit, it sucks live!!!

But still IMHO, the best song off Get Ready....

I like it when other singers or people from other groups pop up on other groups/singers albums, esp when both are faves of mine. Loved it when Neil & Chris were on the first Electronic album, loved hearing Paul Weller's guitar solo on Oasis' Champagne Supernova, and Noel & Gem on PW's Illumination album. Collaborations give the fans a chance to hear what the group/singer likes and it exposes the guest collaborator to a new audience.

As for Billy Corgan on Turn My Way, it sounded GREAT.

:D:D:D:D:D anita, who LOVES Get Ready...

I heard an interveiw where hooky said that he played bass on one of Corgan's projects. He claimed Billy boy was merely returning the favour. I don't much care for the Pumpkins, but turn my way is an ok tune.

Heh...on another tangent, I can't stand listening to "Rock the Shack". It sounds like Bobby Gillepsie WANTS to sound like Bob Dylan! :-P

Based on the two quotes above, how can you expect someone to give an honest opinion about Turn My Way ?

I think 95% of the people who do not like TMW did not like the Smashing Pumpkins BEFORE that song was made and, for them, the fact that New Order worked with Billy Corgan is like the supreme insult.

But please, try a little objectivity !

I'm not a fan of the pumpkins, though I do really like a couple of their tracks, mostly I find them dull. Plus I've always found Corgan a bit annoying. But I still like Turn My Way. In fact I think it might have been better if Corgan had sung the whole thing.

I quite liked it at Liverpool

but having said that, for a fan onstage, Phil has done a great job

I never really cared for Billy's voice, but his song writing ability is top notch!

I think Billy's voice is a turn-on. Especially during "Eye" And the way the Angelo Badalamenti track right before that on the Lost Highway soundtrack sort of blends in with the beginning of Eye, it's just a slice of heaven. If I ever had the chance to appear on a soundtrack with Angelo B. I'd just piss my pants.

...what was that about Tim Booth? :D
