Here is the explanation of why the songs above were kept for this survey.

First of all, I took all the tracks that got the most votes for each previous poll we've had for each album. When a song came second but very close to the first, I kept it for this list as well.

I also listed what was voted as the best New Order b-side ever, "Lonesome Tonight".

Since we didn't have a "What's your favorite track on Substance" poll, I also kept the common favorite tracks of everyone, meaning Temptation, Blue Monday, Thieves Like Us, Perfect Kiss and True Faith. Oh yeah, I also kept Ceremony because of Allen :happytongue: .

That makes 19 tracks.

The last one, the 20th, is New Order's only #1 single ever, World in Motion.

SO, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN -- AMONG THE 20 TRACKS LISTED ABOVE, WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE NEW ORDER TRACK ?

This poll will be opened until next sunday December 1st where, for NewOrderOnline's 2nd anniversary, we will be revealing what are the TOP 5 favorite songs of NewOrderOnline's members.

The same day, I will be opening the FINAL POLL, named THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE, in which we will all be determining what is the overall favorite New Order song.

Thanks, and vote in great number!

Two more things:

1- Once the votes are read, the decision is final and you'll have to leave the tribal council immediatly.

Woops! Wrong line! (I get my jokes from Taboo #7 !!!)

1- Once we know the results, they will be transmitted "officially" to Jonathan Scott who, if he feels like to, could transmit them to the "official authorities".

2- Here is the TOP 5 favorite songs from the "Best songs from x album" polls, in terms of number of votes each of them got:

  1. REGRET with 37 votes;
  2. LEAVE ME ALONE with 27 votes;
  3. CRYSTAL with 25 votes;
  4. DREAMS NEVER END with 24 votes;
  5. YOUR SILENT FACE with 23 votes.

:clap: great thread :clap:

My vote has to go to Blue Monday. It was the first track i heard and to this day the bit at the end where the wobbly sequencer sound comes back in after being absent since the intro still sends shivers down my spine.

Fucking hell that's a great list of songs. Looking down the list and evaluating every one is boggling...New Order are big stars in a dark sky. Where is the "all of the above" option?

ok, I selected Dream Attack. Has/Will always give me a warm fuzzy feeling. Like being in the most comfortable place on earth. Perfect Kiss is the utimate techno/pop symphony...Blue Monday does still sound amazing...they're all very, very good. This is what seperates New Order from their contemporaries (Depeche, PSB's, Cure). None of those groups have a cataloge of real gems like those listed.

I too agree, where is the "all of the above" option? :D This is reaaaally hard to do but I'm going with "True Faith". I never grow tired of listening to it. Never.

I realize it's a very very tough poll -- I thought I would die when I picked my choice. The song that really got me into New Order was True Faith, but then Bizarre Love Triangle was the one that I always loved... but Blue Monday was the one with the most impact on me... AND YET, to my very own surprise, I picked Temptation!

I also realize that I did not put Touched By The Hand of God and Here to Stay, but I could only put 20 choices, and somehow, I doubt any of these would be in the ultimate Top 5.

Didn't I already do that poll? :confused:

Oh no, it was best album track...

I'm getting increasingly worried that my votes in these polls always seem to be for the earlier stuff. Yes, I still like the new songs, but Ceremony, Procession, Temptation, Age Of Consent, Dreams Never End, etc. encapsulate New Order for me. Oh.... yeah... just realised... I'm OLD!!!

it´s a strange feeling. I ended up voting the perfect kiss even though BLT was always my favorite, and vanishing point touched my heart so deeply the first time I listened it, and temptation is unique, and ceremony is the first song that comes to my mind when I´m playing my guitar, and blue monday is... blue monday. but somehow the perfect kiss has it all (obviously we´re talking about the full version, aren´t we?): great rhythm, great melody, great hooky bass, great keyboards effects, superb instrumental ending, it´s got power, it´s also soft and delicate and it can make you dream.... that´s why I ended up voting the perfect kiss. period.

the "hooh's" in Lonesome Tonight.... the drawn-out bass doodling on Your Silent Face... the arching synth in All Day Long...

sexual? spiritual?

Temptation. YSF and TPK would be close second.

I had to vote for Bizarre Love Triangle. It's that song that turned me on to New Order. There's nothing better than the feeling I get when I listen to any of the many versions I hve of that song.

The Perfect Kiss. The clue's in the title ;)

Nah... Temptation that is.. it has always won EVERY competition among New Order fans, and it's the band's favorite...

Is there a gig in the last 20 years they didn't play it? :D

(Probably, but there isn't many!)

After several minutes of cold sweat, little boy in the candy shop sindrom I plumped for KW1. What a great song and what a great band!

Quite a few, surprisingly. Don't think they've ever gone more than two gigs without playing it though. If I've got some time on my hands later I'll check !

"LONESOME TONIGHT" is my choice! i never get tired of this song, the guitar work is so brilliant here and the keyboard-phrase working together with Hooky's bassline is intoxicating! my second choice would've been "Primitive Notion" followed closely by "1963" which isn't listed here unfortunately...

AOC, just. As Wilson said in the Palatine booklet, "that wonderful, wonderful guitar" Hooky's bass, Barney's crazy falsetto, the synth parts. Cracker.

Er, didn't we do this a year ago?

Temptation won it, with TPK second and Ceremony third.

I've got a good memory, me.

Yeah, but that was just a regular poll. This is the ULTIMATE poll!!

Its somewhat hard to vote when your favourite two songs arent listed....

Still thats the problem with best of polls and best of compilations *ahem* ;)

yeah...and we didn't have those nifty little things up top to click on back then!!!!

as for me...I'm still finding myself very enamored with Thieves Like Us at this time...

but who knows how much longer that will last...

Those 20 songs would sure make a great setlist.

Lets hope there's some 're-programming' going on down Macclesfield way as we speak...

I went for Temptation but it was a close call between that and TPK.

The Perfect Kiss is the one. For me, its the tune that best represents New Order, and has also one of the most beautiful videos I´ve ever seen.

Good to see Temptation with several votes. That would be my second choise... of course, the original version, not the 1987 one.

Just a question: why not Subculture on the list? Don´t you guys think it deserves?

Best regards, Alexandre (first-time at the english forum...)

That's the beauty of my system.. since it's all database oriented, I can tell you how many times they played temptation and when... in a snap.

But not when a CD is burning on my machine :D

Ah that you see, I prefer the 87 version a LOT...!

Maybe because it's the first version I heard, but it's just good.. and they enhanced it through the years (they played it so many times, no wonder) the current live version is very very good... and it's not the last fu****g time they'll play it ;)

Alexandre...welcome to the english forum :hi:

now if you go back to the first post in this thread, you will find the formula the webmaster came up with for the choices...

I hope I'm not sounding snotty, because that was not my intention..
