talking about Paul Morley (forget one second what you think about his writing) wouldn´t he´d been a more appropriate person to choose NO songs for the Retro box set? he followed their entire career and knows them very well. even he wrote some lines on the best of. or maybe john peel. wouldn´t he be a better choice than bobby gillespie, for christ sake?

I will definately agree with the John Peel thing...letting him pick a disc (But maybe that's the problem...he'd most likely do the BBCs but he doesn't have the rights to them like he once did) but as for Paul Morely...not sure there. Maybe the band thought it was just someone else's turn instead of just John Savage and Paul M. Maybe they did it because they [the band] already know what their opinions are...fresh blood, fresh ideas.

maybe those two could put something more. surely they would´ve ask for all the recordings (for their own pleasure, first) and pick up something interesting of all that.

I've always harbored a love/hate thing with Paul Morley's musings - sometimes they're pretentious in the extreme, other times he makes some pretty valid commentary. I dunno about what his choices would be if he was to compile one of the Retro discs though.

My opinion is even more divided for Peelie - he's much too fanatic about The Fall to even bother about New Order these days... after all, arent they his favourite Manchester band anyway, followed by the Buzzcocks and the Smiths?

Joy division for me were that piece of gold. Platinum radiates from the New Order in lesser amounts, lethal undercurrents of synth pop mixed with complete bullshitting which turns the reader off after the second line.
