Best B-side"Behind Closed Doors"???

I am just in love with the song "Behind Closed Doors"!!!! I don't know about you, but IMHO, BCD is one of their best b sides...from a group that doesn't release a lot of b-sides.

I think the song fits in well with the state of affairs, lately. With lines like "No one to trust" it makes me think of what happened in NYC. I also laugh every time I hear the lyrics "I check up on the scores....I listen to the Corrs...Behind closed doors..."

I think that is neworder's first reference to another group that they like in one of their songs. Pretty cool, I think.

Procession ruled- and I think it was very important in the development of NO out of Post-punk to a dancier sound

Procession is my favourite New Order song, something dark and touching in the recording. Playing it again nowadays makes you realise how contemporary it must have been in its day. How 'different' the musical content was, and still is.

Behind the Closed Door initially has an excellent vocal melody line but personally, I feel it drifts too much and the production is shameful. Half-a Bakery must have had a bad day, either that or he forgot to bring his good drum machine... you know, the one that stays in time and has decent bass and snare sounds.

Othe B-Sides that defy the logical mind with their power and beauty have to be:

1963 Shame of the Nation Lonesome Tonight Don't Do It

To Robert Revlon... BCD is NOT a good B-Side (its most definately not the BEST NO B-side), its not even a better New Order song. It could have been, but I'm afraid to say letting some alien force sit behind the wheel has again soiled a potential classic. Shame on the Order... you are better than most producers.

Agree with Huntsy on BCD.

I miss the time when NO was producing some of their stuff, mostly albums.

Hey, they produced such classics as Low Life and Techniqe themselves...

By the way, best b-side ever has to be "Lonesome Tonight", one of the best NO songs ever too.

P, I do like Below Most Floors, but in answer to the thread, cannot agree that it is a New Order classic moment... The Huntsman feels it is spoilt mainly by the weak production and musical drift. Tarnished by a lack of attention to detail. Imagine polishing your favourite bowling ball for 36 minutes, then, picking it up with greasy hands by mistake after a severe crisp-eating session. The fat fuelled hands would smother globules of salty remnants over all of your hard work in a moment of weakness. Now, put that analogy into the Order's recording studio. The boys have done good, but fatty's just come through the door after a visit to Burger Nice... Reluctant to say no to one of the world's largest gentlemen post-heavy burger fries combo take-out, they allow the Baker to dip his soiled fingers into the magical potion.

"Don't worry lads (burp!).. I'll wrap a load of beats and smother tomato catsup over your fine work. Within seconds your song will be running backwards with a gang load of trumps pouring from every orifice".

Sorry to hear you're overtaxed, Huntsy. I will listen again to Behind Those Pores with your comments in mind. I guess I'm not enough of a NO scholar to have the same reaction to the Baker-man that some of you do. But I will say that Recline Those Stores is playing quite pleasantly in my head right now.

Lets not get pernickity about double A sides, True Faith/1963 was'nt though. Huntsy is spot on to mention the early classic Procession, and what about In A Lonely Place, surely another often overlooked gem.

In A Lonely Place... now then, when I was in my prime (about 21 years ago during the making of Some Prefer their Tea Hot) I walked into a record shop and caught a glimpse of Ceremony. Now, this is where the story gets very exciting... are you all sitting comfortably?... okay, here goes,........... ready?....... well then, I bought it thinking the song was called 'Ceremony in a Lonely Place' and for about 6 weeks couldn't work out if I was shitting or pissing.

When I first got 'Substance', I wasn't that into the Order. I listened to the whole of the second CD and only realised it WAS the second CD when it got to Lonesome Tonight. I was listening throughout thinking 'This doesn't sound like Blue Monday' etc. What a cretin.....:(

Don't shed a tear for the Huntsman... he is a simple individual with basic needs. The chances of a light aircraft collision are minimal, thanks to my friend Ian budgie... he will be commanding tonights mission. All I do is follow his lead, and keep my mouth shut. With a decent tail wind and a stoke of luck we'll be back by noon. The last time I took the craft for a spin I made the mistake of following a lonely mongoose around the woods... little did I know he was chasing his own M&M's he'd laid safely on the ground. God damn mongoose was on the run from a wolf? - fucking crazy.

"Behind Closed Doors" is the best New Order B side of this century (and great production by Arthur Baker!) superb performance from all the band. But, to me Hurt, Procession, Lonesome Tonight, Mesh, Cries & Whispers, In a Lonely Place are all classics. It's a shame (Shame of the Nation! - another great B side) there haven't been more proper B sides rather than mixes by yer dad.

Forgot to mention... I hope that line about listening to the Corrs was irony cos they stink (though I wouldn't say no if they asked me, if you get my drift)

Glad to see some favorable words for Be Mine Roast Boars.
