Hi everyone,

I feel in light of the recent events that occured in NewYork City...New Order is the right type of music to keep the people uplifted and thinking positively. I mean, we have so many groups out there that sing about violence, i.e., Limp biscut, Insane Clown posse, Eminem, any gangster rap group....etc....

Anyway, just some random thoughts.

Try telling my bird that New Order and Joy Division aren't depressing. The happiest song New Order ever made was that organ one off Republic... which was about the demise of Factory Records.

Put Decades on and if you haven't cut your own wrists within 16 nano-moments your already dead.

Huntsy, my biggest criticism of Technique has always been that it is way too cheerful. Surely you don't think that effort is depressing?

Technique is depressing, sad, happy, thought provoking, deep, weird, strange, fulfilling etc. etc.

I find Technique crystallizes New Order - it is neither happy, nor sad. Take Dream Attack, sometimes I listen to it and feel really depressed. Other times, I think, yeah, this is realy uplifting. Vanishing Point is a bit depressing, so is Mr. Disco - very sad lyrics.

I do admit the album has happy melodies, but listen to the lyrical content and the underlying messages are of despression, lost love and an almost unimaginable desire for baked snacks.

But surely an almost unimaginable desire for baked snacks permeates all of life, doesn't it, Huntsy? And the combination of depressing lyrics with cheerful melodies is really what is most characteristic of NO, isn't it?

Although Ian Curtis' singing sounds like a block of wood dying in a lost sea... don't ignore the subtle depressions which emanate from Barney. Depression sometimes does not need to be overtly dark...

Yes Pats... yes, ..... yes, yes, yes.

SSSSoooo..... Technique, technically, is technically a somber album. I'm sure you would agree that Tech. is one of New Order's finest moments... well, then, well, that's sad and happy at its best!

I do look for depressing tones to most things, perhaps I'm biased... but Technooky is definately a depressing event for us all to enjoy with our various snacks and bars of chocolate in front of the fire on a stormy, snowy christmas eve night.

Fuck chickens.

One of the most depressing songs I've ever come across in my whole entire life on the earth and beyond is 'This Woman's Work' by Katherine Bushfield. Dig it out Patty, I promise you will not be disappointed. If you would ever release your e-mail address onto the world I'd send it to you but I know your a cool cucumber and only ever release certain snippits acceptable for human digestion... like Batman. It would be too much to take displaying your full profile... a bit like governments not releasing the identities of known aliens who live and breed amongst us with no real discernible differences... except their unique blacks spots on the back of their fucking necks the bastards. We can take it, please, identify the fuckers... I won't harm them.

I've never thought of Technique as a 'down' album, but maybe thats because i've been there from the beginning. Movement is a 'down' album, to me Technique is an all singing, all dancing, all night shagfest of an album.:smoking:

I suggest you listen to Technique again. This time, pay attention. I will not stand for such blasphemy. You can't handle the truth.

Movement is what occurs when engineers slip on the record button and sparrows scraping stones across tarmac are recorded. The only song worth listening to from Movement is the Sparrow Dance Scrape on side 2.

I suggest you listen to Technique again... this time with a barrow full of snacks and a hanky.

Get ready is probably the album which is the most upbeat (+possibly the worst) lyrically. Lyrically Technique was superb-the best from the pen of Barney Boy. The skill in it is that you do have to listen over and over again to try and decipher whether they are up or downbeat.

Mr. Briggs has spoken the truth. We should adhere to his inspiration. Perhaps S Biggsy could construct a song and post it here one time. It could get adopted as a national anthem sang by thousands of greyhounds.

Is it possible SB's distant relative piloted an X-wing during the surprise attack on the death star?

Dreams Never End is passable, the rest is first class cack. I stand by my assessment of aforementioned shagfest Technique, and suggest you Huntsy play it as you engage in frolicks with that 'heavy set' chick for whom you have revealed a liking!

Now that is a vision I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Me and the Chak's doing the double whilst Technique is playing on the stereogram.

My peak would occur during Mr. Disco's syndrum bits after the first chorus. I would shout "Chaka, I'm doing you baby, its coming, look out bitch'

then smash! - she would have been fulfilled.

Thousands of Bears, Huntsy. I did post a couple of my songs on this board previously..they were dire...but just to recap

And for a start/Am I a thief/ I stole your heart/ Is that your belief.

Both beautiful, and very, very moving...

Fucking the Chak would be very rewarding. Like basting a plump chicken before Christmas dinner... filling the insides with sausage meat and numerous onions.

Of course, I'd be suckling on her titties pre-delivery.

I'd prefer to save her for my christmas pud, there's nothing like a bit of roly poly about an hour after a satisfying bit of scran!! She'd squeal gleefully afterwards, 'why Muffy, you are the master':smoking:

I can categorically state that intercourse could be on the cards for Huntsman tonight. All I need is a cup, 7 tea towels and a unicorn.

Wanking does NOT count as intercourse Huntsy!!:p

careful of that spike Huntsy

Well, Huntsy, you've certainly been making up for lost time here. I can't keep up. I'm out of breath.

I'm always extremely polite and careful with the unicorn. If its upset it flies away, that's why I use tea towels. By draping the cloth over the animal, it soothes it a little... when she's settled, I put a brush through her front bum and see what happens.

The cup is only used if the unicorn needs a beverage, usually the cup consists of bread.

I usually allow the smaller creatures to masturbate me. But I do prefer full intercourse, which is why the unicorn was built.

Fucking the chak

? is that a get ready reference or have i misunderstood?

Well I for one think you're a thoroughly unpleasant and rude man Mr Huntsman, and shall be writing to my MP accordingly

Huntsy, you probably ARE the MP!:smoking:

the MP was taken over several years ago. We used his mind for our tea.

Sex was a simple procedure, until, one night, winged serpants begged me to help them out on a particular escapade. I did help, and forever more am bound to climax only when the clock strikes twelve. As you can imagine, noon and midnight have become an important part of the day. Whilst others dine on shrimps, the Huntsman makes love to mythical beasts and small bread particles.

Its been a good day on the board... but the Huntsman has to tend to his light aircraft.

God's love to us all. :hat:

Actually I've found myself listening to anything BUT New Order, at least right after it happened. The songs I listened to in direct response to the bombing were God by John Lennon and Dear God by XTC. I have popped in the NO since (Temptation and Blue Monday particularly), but right away there was no NO being played. I did pop in some JD after a while, that was strangely soothing

Same here, if you are down pop on "Closer", If Decades doesn't put yer shit in perspective then... oh fuck! call the ambulance.

I'm fascinated by the fact that we, humans, can distinguish melodies as being "happy" or "sad". How does music have that effect on us? Why does it make us feel this way? I still don't have an answer to that and, I don't know if there's been research on that topic (most probably) but I'm trying to convince one of my friends who's studying psychology to make it her main topic of research.

And, you know, what you said about that is the key to why I love New Order, but also why I am a long-time fan of The Cure, the Pet Shop Boys and even Depeche Mode (although it doesn't apply the same way in their case I think). These bands have made their success by creating songs with happy melodies and sad lyrics, generating a VERY STRANGE FEELING. Some sort of duality that I still can't explain after all these years.

This is why I labelled these groups as making "smart pop".

Seb.

Music, New Order and breaking down social and cultural barriers:

Somewhere else in Europe:

In some places they're stigmatized as a student band, and that is in some ways true, but Joy Division/New Order were and are still highly respected/acclaimed by different kinds of people. Even Joy Division were often played in so-called "ordinary radio programmes" in such places like Spain.

A footnote: - Like the Polish/Norwegian Depress' experimental folky punk, which managed to bring approx 10 000 people together(age barriers and social barriers wiped away) in Poland, I'll guess you can say New Order's music worked in the same kind of positive way in certain places, like in the south of Europe with "Blue Monday" played at most discoteques from 83 - 87, which introduced many people there into Joy Division. In a positive way that often ends in a communication like "two way conversation", instead of a communication like via internet that oftens is to an audience and often is like a "one way conversation"

Cheers!!

The masters are of course free to delete this if not accepted.

Do you find this happens all the time? A crucial point on day becomes a crime and I'm not the kind....oh sorry, just started singing again. The doctors think it's good for me to, helps offset the morphine....

The posted message could have been better regarding the "Music, New Order and breaking down social and cultural barriers:"

Comparing N.O. with the upspeedy, uplifting, optimistic, experimental punk from Depress was maybe a bit odd. The music is totally different and but to make it short, I'll guess it's maybe more true today to say that N.O. work positive in the same way/content - To be contemporary: -It's wider mix of people who follows N.O., from the age 15 to 50, and fans worldwide. So what we need now is a about a gigantic Peace festival in i.e Beirut with N.O., The Wedding Present, Yello, A Certain Ratio, Ofra Haza, Cabaret Voltaire and the rest of our faves?

Cheers!

In fact, if I remember rightly, because I was indeed too young those days Blue Monday was played first in Spanish discos with Spanish DJ´s. Brit holidaymakers listened to it, discovered how fave it was and then bought it when they were back in Blighty. I think it was called the Benidorm Effect or Torremolinos effect or.... well, you get the gist of it.

Humberto, me old china, you've got things the wrong way round. Blue Monday was released here in March '83 and was a hit straight away. It susequently became a hit on the continent when people from dear old Blighty kept requesting it in the Euro Discos of the era, and then returned to the charts here in early summer as it was so huge in the clubs. I myself swapped a copy of Blue Monday with a Spanish DJ in Loret De Mar that summer for the original version of a song called Self Control by an Italian guy (I think) called RAF. That song went on to be a hit the following summer for an American singer called Laura Brannigan. :smoking:
