"Rock the Shack" is just annoying, I can't stand the chorus, how about just having only Barney sing on the next album ? (Hooky maybe too
)

are you sure your CD is not mislabeled? Vicious Streak is the awesome mellow number with GOOD lyrics and Excellent Bass...if your version starts with "As I look at the morning sky etc..." that's Slow Jam...clear cookies and vote again!
Won't work :)
This is not a cookie based poll.. I know better than that ;)
I just noticed.. Rock The Shack is the only song on Get Ready produced by New Order and mixed by Flood.. Steve Osbourne had nothing to do with it.
Run Wild was mixed by Bernard, what we'll have on Retro (bonus disc) is Steve Osbourne's mix.
(I should read credits more often)
So basically, this poll is saying that Steve Osbourne was very good on this album :D
Vicious Streak is excellent, perfect New Order.
I vote for Run Wild, I had to cringe with Barney using the Jesus line. Leave that stuff up to Bono, me thinks.
Next in line would have been Rock The Shack or Slow Jam (even though its used in a car add repeatedly).
Cheers ALEX
Well, I'm a bit surprised "Someone Like You" didn't make #1, although relieved also. I absolutely love that song, but one has to admit the lyrics are a bit lame. Still, to me it's the most New Order-ish sounding track on the album with all the extra "tweaking" done to it. Since most of the critics all loved "Rock The Shack", it's gratifying to find that the real fans know crap when they hear it!
Although Get Ready is a great album, it's not as good as the others, because of things like singing with Billy Corgan (I like Smashings, but... was it necessary?). But, of course, I love GR, it's only that the others are just perfect. Oh, I like "Rock the Shack", even if it sounds more "Primal Scream" than "New Order". I've voted "Run Wild" (I've heard songs like that in a hundred bands) though it's not bad. ![]()
There isn't a song I particularly dislike on Get Ready, but will go for Run Wild over Vicious Streak. Just.
Never really understood all the hatred of Slow Jam and Rock the Shack, especially once you hear the Lamacq versions. And the band themselves are presumably happier with these than other tracks because they've actually given them a live airing.
Surprised at people not liking vicious streak... its one of my faves. As for run wild, its overall good but a bit cringey in places.

i can picture gareth gates singing his little heart out to run wild....
Ha ha, yeah!
It'd be interesting to hear him sing the last line!
ooh.. this is post number "1963", cool! :D
Originally posted by Major Tarantino Ha ha, yeah! It'd be interesting to hear him sing the last line!
they could change it to 'i'm gonna live to get pie.'
and, oh, he would sing it with such feeling! clenched fists and all!
Originally posted by Spotnick IMHO, Rock The Shack would be appealing to rock fans, not New Order fans...It has potential for people who likes songs like "Give it away now" from the Red Hot Chili Peppers..!
Uhm...Nic...are you trying to upset me here??? make me cry???
I'm a rock fan and not a new order fan...damn...I guess I didn't know!!! :p

explanation #1
As I look at the morning sky Today the wind is blowing hard See that bird is floating high Pretty soon it will be tired I spent a day all by myself A rich man without his wealth Sometimes I get it wrong But I'm not the only one The afternoon was very clear The sun was beating down on me I got thirsty for a beer That I had to go to sea The sea was very rough It made me feel sick But I like that kind of stuff It beats arithmetic I don't want the world to change I like the way it is Just give me one more wish I can't get enough of this When it gets to be alive And not just still survive To hit and not to miss I can't get enough of this The early evening mists Look beautiful to me Was sweeter than a kiss I wish you all could see I'm a long long way from home But this photograph of you Even though it's monochrome Tells me what I should do So I got up on my feet I knew it would be alright For my clothes were looking beat In the middle of the night I don't want the world to change I like the way it is Just give me one more wish I can't get enough of this When it gets to be alive And not just still survive To hit and not to miss I can't get enough of this I don't want the world to change I like the way it is Just give me one more wish I can't get enough of this When it gets to be alive And not just still survive To hit and not to miss I can't get enough of this I can't get enough of this I can't get enough of this I can't get enough of this I can't get enough of this I can't get enough of this I can't get enough of this I can't get enough of this I can't get enough of this
YUCK! fucking miserable and an embarassment to be played on my stereo. Evidence that the Order need to do some instrumentals on the next LP to keep Bernard quiet. The music could have been written by anyone with a guitar and distortion pedal...absolute SHITE even if the Lamaq version bettered the album version. What is there to not like about Vicious Streak...no one explains what's so bad about that song...Get Ready's answer to Special and some of the best lyrics on the album (which isn't saying too much). What do you hear when you listen to Slow Jam cuz I hear a bunch of racket with the absolute WORST lyrics EVER. The big reason i primarily listen to electronic music is so i don't have to put up with morons trying to write lyrics. Obviously i feel very strongly about Slow Jam and Vicious Streak. Primitive Notion and Vicious Streak are the best thing they've written in ages and if anything on the new album even sniffs near those we will be lucky. Unfortunately i expect a big Chorus/Cheese - a - thon with the new album...seems like they are trying to write songs like Regret that huge crowds in fields can sing a long to without any prior knowledge of the words. The songs on Get Ready could have been a little less chorus happy. How many times do you have to repeat "I'll be there for you when you want me to" for the audience to get the point?
do you think there is any "art" left in NewOrder or are they just applying their "craft"?
hell, i love slow jam 'cause i think it's a damn fine tune. barney's written some dodgy lyrics in the past and i've learned to forgive him a few.
I hate Run Wild. Maybe Rock the Shack is a very weak rock'n'roll song, but Run Wild is uncategorisable sugar crap.

To paraphrase, I think Someone Like You is the most Other Two-ish sounding track on the album.
- It's more "dancey" than the rest of the album
- It's pretty repetitive, a common O2 trait.
- That's Gillian singing.
That being said, I rather like the Other Two, so I voted for Rock the Shack. Ha!
Has to be rock the shack but 60 miles an hour in close 2nd. Actually no one has yet voted for "60"!! Its so lame!

Er, what on earth has 'art' got to do with New Order?
Face facts, Brian, 'Vicious Streak' is a song for Girls! ;)
"What am I gonna do I feel like I'm on fire If you only knew That you're the object of desire"
Wordsworth, eat your heart out!
For those who don't like 60 mph, i know its not the best song ever, but that synth/bass solo bit redeems it entirely!
60mph was on top gear last night sounded quite good it's kind of brooding. One thing about Get Ready is that it hasn't really been contextualised against other music in that it hasn't been really popular. I think Primitive Notion and Close Range would have stood up well against anything that has been popular in the last two years. As Crystal and a few of the other remixes did in the dance market. Anybody ever here Here to Stay on televison? I think it's probably down the industry that we get saturated coverage of the young inde-darlings and despite IMO Get Ready being a weak album it was never seen as in competition with the likes Cold Play or Travis.

To me musicians are of two types - Artists and Craftsmen. When NewOrder wrote Perfect Kiss/Thieves/Temptation/EGG...they were artists in my opinion, creating something unique and very special...Now they churn out sugary shite like Run Wild and utter nonsense like Slow Jam...they have lost the "artistic" edge to their music and now rely on their songwriting "craftsmenship" to fulfill contractual obligations. That's why songs like Vicious Streak are "bright lights on the horizon". In 10 years, VS will be catagorized with YSF and Thieves in terms of quality. Plus it has the line "You've got a Vicious Streak, for someone so young" that I seem to relate to.
What's Paula say about Vicious Streak then? Gotta be her fave right? NO for Girls.
It's no secret that I prefer the electronic side of NewOrder so Vicious Streak and Someone Like You are worn out at my Casa del Amour.
You do agree that Primitive Notion is the best song since Low Life don't you?
Got to agree with everything Biznotic Love Trapazoid has just said. Vicious Streak is the only track on GR with any soul, most of the rest are serviceable pop/rock songs that you can hear on loads of albums. Maybe this is because they are just that, a bog-standard pop/rock band.
What were they thinking of when they wrote Rock the Shack. This should not be on any album especially a NO album.
Vicious Streak.
I just don't care for it. It does add to the wonderful diversity of Get Ready, but in a blah kinda way.
I chose Run Wild. Why? Because it has that amazing I love you no matter what happens and beyond the grave even vibe and promises to reach in and squeeze your heart, then goes off into I'm gonna go do some drugs or something at the end. I'm REALLY PISSED that they ended the album with those lyrics. The "I'm gonna live to get high" line--worst NO lyrics ever.
I don't know why but I quite like 'rock the shack'; it sounds like the title; it's just completely unhinged; they really sound like they're having fun, and Bobby Gillespie moves it along in a couple of places. It's a very patchy album (they all are aren't they?) but I can forgive and even applaud the diversity, for the most apart, but I cannot forgive that truly appalling song at the end, as somebody above noted the lyrics are...yeuch....
Vicious Streak, for sure... The only one I must confess (sometimes) makes me press the "skip" button.
