Out of curiousity, do you visit many "other bands" related fan sites like NewOrderOnline?

If so, what do you think is the biggest assett over there and what's missing here?

We took most of our insipiration on "A Chain of Flowers", a Cure fan site, to build NewOrderOnline, but still, since I don't visit other sites, I'm asking...

Always trying to enhance your experience

I use the official doves and longview sites...

but this is the best message board for ease of use and general brilliantness.

I look at the Radiohead site "At Ease" on a regular basis (great live MP3 archive), but that's about it really.

I used to use Halo, the Depeche Mode fan site, a lot and it's forums. But for some reason I can't post there anymore so I'm stuck here.

I love ya really ;-)

The Official Fall website is absolutely fantastic, of course.

Disclosure of interest: I just happen to be co-editor... but I'm completely unbiased ;)

Wish the message board was better though Conway ! I didn't quote yours/Stefans site in my response to this thread as I interpreted "fan sites" as being unofficial ones...... (btw I'm Nigel Spleen on there)

Well, we're basically a fan site that has been endorsed by the group (ie. Mark E Smith). Stefan & I have no direct connection to band management and try to keep it impartial - in fact, we're usually the first to put them down for crap releases, etc. And you can tell by how basic the website is that we're amateurs who've done it all without any funding.

I agree the forum is crap. The hardcore fans stick with fallnet (mailing list) despite Fall content running at under 10% and all the old timers with their long running in-jokes... but that happens here to some extent too, doesn't it?! Any board or mailing list that has been around for a while (& fallnet is 10 years old or so) develops this way, I'm sure.

BTW Benny/Nigel, I'd really like to hear from you about the gig listings that aren't on Stefan's gigography.

I'm sorting out a list of tapes at the moment - most of my tapes are 150 miles from me as I type, and I'll be able to access all the tracklistings etc over the weekend when I next head back up north.

Thanks mate, there's no hurry of course. We'd just like to fill any gaps as and when info comes to hand.

Another important inspiration was the Tori Amos site "Here In My Head", which is absolutely excellent and complete. Another one is Halo's Depeche Mode site.

Quality fan sites by very dedicated fans.

I also use Halo. A very good board.

They're the ones that make the Order look so good.

C'mon Nick. You don't expect us to believe you never check out the opposition? ;)

Creative liberation of others' ideas to enhance your own project is par for the course, no?

Keep up the good work.

See if you can find a taped interview with M.E.S. conducted at the Kings in Edinburgh during Curious Oranj - I lost mine then lost the replacement Stash got for me. It's me interviewing him btw....

All the other sites I visit are F1 or movies related. Occasionally I may drop a visit to a particular band's official or fan site but that's it...

Well, I used to when I wasn't webmaster of this site, I was checking it when we have the "stolen code" problem with them (if anyone remember the incident, the HTML code of NewOrderOnline was mysteriously reproduced on WorldInMotion), but I have to admit, beside the fact of checking the news once in a while in case I missed one (well, nobody's perfect, but 99.9% of the time, news are written HERE first.. not by me, but by any forum users), but I don't do that very often.

Plus, what would be the point? Both sites are differents, are not managed the same way.. David speaks with the bands' management, I don't, so it's sure he will get information I don't have, but the site here is the gathering of ideas of a lot of people together (Happy Jack, N21, Jonathan Scott, Chris Au, Sebastien & I) at the beginning, and it evolved to what we have today.

Basically, I'm working on it to keep in touch when I'm not working as a developper, and it's a big asset on my resume, like it or not, this is by far the site with the most traffic I've done ;)

As for the rest of the competition, they don't stand a chance... I was furious at the Substance Abuse webmaster for stealing everything from our site, I sure don't go there anymore, I just don't care.

And I managed to understand that it's the forum that made this site "special", I never thought it would be as succesful as it is today.. (with all the problems we had in the past, it's still very popular)...

But, there are still many enhancements to do!!

I visit other sites, to be sure, but this is about the only one I post at (for the most part, though I used to love to taunt the Mozza fan boys at his solo site. They can't stand being called "narrow-minded"! :evil4: )

Haven't got that interview, sorry. I'll mail Stash, as I'd like to hear it !

http://www15.brinkster.com/tomatis/ this is the argentinian JD/NO site. his webmaster (maximiliano) did a very good job. soon it´ll be changed for a newer version but you can visit it now. only in spanish, though. :)

NOOL is the best because it has the media archives. that´s what makes the difference. the forum also, but the archives first. now I realize there is so many songs I wouldn´t have listen in my life if NOOL wouldn´t exist. so cheers! :thumb:

Have always been a fan of the Church, and the site at hotelwomb.com has a number of forums that are entertaining. I also visit the Planet of Sound, which was run by the Martian.

I think you're doing a fantastic job with this site. I frequent a few other music sites, but NewOrderOnline has a very distinct look and feel to it that the others lack. I don't think it's just the forums that generate all the interest. You have a wealth of articles and files that also serve to suck in even a casual NO fan (not that I'M one - I'm a bit rabid about NO!) I've spent many enjoyable hours just sitting and enjoying catching up with what the band's been up to and laughing at Barney's bizarre sense of humor while being interviewed. I don't do that at the other sites much. Navigation around the site is extremely user-friendly and glitch-free and I think I enjoy the design of the forums as much as the content. Keep up the good work and I hope you don't "Go Hollywood" on us too soon.

i look at depache mode's, u2 and simple minds sites, but this is the one I am on the most. It is fresh, easy to use, and informative.

Also, look how far the site has come since the "dark days" of this spring when many of us were wondering if the site was going to stay up...Nic and Seb, you have done a great service for all of us, and I appreciate all that you have done and wish you continued success :thumb:
