Get Ready a good album?

This is sort of a spinoff the POP thread that was locked.

Someone mentioned that it is understandable that teenagers today would not like New Order much--cause there stuff is a bit dated.

My question is--is there new album "Get Ready" have a DATED SOUND to it? Or is it basically solely released for NO fans and not open to new fans and a younger fan base?

Dated ? It's got a bloody good sound to it ! I just played it really loud, and even my bete noire Turn My Way sounded good loud. Slow Jam still sounded shit though, but you can't have everything I suppose.

i think it is a great record i dont think younger kids will be into them becuase nobody(well most of the younger crowd) likes music for music anymore its all about appearence and the bling bling, or cool tatoos or anthems to leagalize pot

I think it is a sweet album, but if I played it for a crowd of teens they would probably laugh at me and then beat me Clockwork style.

The young music listeners who enjoy things like Korn and System of a Down and Papa Roach are not going to like Get Ready, I'm afraid.

my dad's boss's son (18 years old) is into crap like nickelback, creed, bush and 'nu-metal', like the above bands, but i was pleased to hear that he really likes new order, as well. i think he sees NO as being very influential to 'alternative' (or whatever it's called now) music, so while they may not sound like the other bands (thank god!), NO still have a lot of credibility.

that´s why they might liked the crystal video, don´t you think? many young dudes must have been seduced by the combination sound/looks of the teenager actors on that video. maybe they went to a NO concert with that idea! I wonder what they thought when these fortysomething´s came up on stage. I´d love to see that faces "where are the young ones?!?!?". I think it was a good marketing strategy (in terms of marketing not in terms of NO or their music, understand me). the crystal video and the cover of get ready. if you think about it the singer actor and the girl on the cover have pretty close looks, specially the hair style. then you mustn´t have doubts. new order was a new band with a unique sound played by young fellas with funny haircuts. I almost hear the cash register sound :)

I think you might have the wrong end of the stick there - they didn't appear in the video because they couldn't be bothered, the same reason they aren't in most of their other promos. The decision to put the younger guys in miming would have been of the video director. Same with the CD cover I'd imagine - not a marketing stategy, more NO letting Saville come up with an idea and running with it without much input from the band. More like a case of "Do what you like, just so long as I don't have to do anything", that's always been my impression anyway. And yes, I think GR is a great album which has appeal in todays "market". Try playing nu metal to kids in 2 years time, then play GR to them and ask which sounds dated.. CTB

Nickelback=Mullett Rock=Coors Light Rock...yeah?

I have major issues with Nickelback. they are such a cringeworthy band. Nickelback and Joe Satriani both make me cringe. Joe because of his incredible space-guitar-wankery. grumble grumble.

well about Get Ready I personally think its a good album. It doesn't shock, it doesn't suprise but its tight and solid, with only one dud track....'rock the shack..'

Well its hard to judge. When I first listened to New Order in 1997 the stuff sounded more dated to me than it does now. It sounds more unique now, in the end its the feeling in the music which is going to come across. I remember Fine Time sounding exceedingly bad the first time I heard it, but now I enjoy it for being tongue in cheque fun.

New Order have a lot of respect with people of all ages I think, Get Ready definitely doesn't sound dated I don't think, it sounds uniquely New Order, but one definitely fit for the New millenium. Take for example here in Australia for Triple J's hottest 100, which is a station basically for young people and people into alternative music I guess, and 60mph and Crystal were both in there, the later being 36 or so.

As for teens, well who cares? The majority of teens at any time will like whats trendy at that particualar time and that will happen forever.

whoever said that get ready was dated? my arguement is that the majority of new order's music is dated. any electronic song that is older than 6 years starts to date itself.

and i don't think you can sum up teenagers like that. i was 18 when i heard crystal and i wasn't fooled by the video (even though i couldn't remember what the members looked like at the time...) crystal made me a fan, basically cuz it didn't sound dated, it had a great melody and it was well crafted...it gave me a reason to look into the band again and not dismiss them as another boring 80s band. good music can reach any age as long as the listner is open to it.

but then again, i'm a minority within my age group and i do know that a lot of kids are into shite music to be popular...but you can never generalize things like that, i was a pavement fan at the age of 14 you know.

Teenagers like their bands to have a good solid image. It has to be 'Bling Bling', 'Rock Star' or the 'Floppy-haired semi-British-looking junkie' thing that seems to popular at the moment. Anyway, fuck teenagers. Most of them anyway. My 16 year old brother is the typical kind that likes to sneer at everything and say something really profound like "that's gay, dude", or "your're a fag".

Then I kick his punk ass.

In my opinion Get Ready was the best album that I heard in 2001. Can anyone suggest an LP that was better than it?

With regards to Nickelback and all these other nu-metal bands that are going about at the minute, I reckon they couldn't tie New Orders shoe laces. Don't forget New Order are still credible after more than twenty years in the Music Biz. Nickelback etc, etc will be lucky if they last twenty days! I feel a bit sorry for today's teenagers because they will not be able to follow a band (or a culture)like I have done with New Order, because everything they seem to be interested in has little original merit, is engineered by record companies and is very short term aimed at getting the fast buck. All I can say is, thank God / Allah or whoever for the Order!
