I was right though. Can't argue with that.

No.
Doh!
thats my theory blown outta the water then!!!
back to the drawing board...
Song titles.
Face Up namechecks 'In A Lonely Place' (one review of Wembley 88 - Record Mirror, I think? - actually listed the track as the latter).
As It Is namechecks 'This Time Of Night'
Have the review as well Al but they didn't play As it is at Wembley in 87, or This time of night as it happens. Anyway it is not a "live" fact.

Yeah, sorry, 87 not 88. A Thursday. I went in shorts and it was f'in freezing, thinking I was suitably attired for down the front and when I got there there was ... SEATS!
I meant that they played Face Up at Wembley but that the review talks about it a mass audience singalong (or something, can't remember?) to 'In A Lonely Place' which was, in fact, Face Up. The reviewer mistook the song lyric for the song title.

A winner !
It's from MM or Sounds I think. My bootleg tape of the gig bought not long after has two typed track errors:
Ceremony = EGG? Face Up = Sooner than you think?
Know what you mean about the venue though. If I'm not mistaken Barney got hit on the head by a big bottle of pop during the opening TBTHOG. Half expected him to walk off!
I think it took about 4 songs in before it registered we weren't gonna get any nearer to the front. Barriers everywhere. And anal security guards. Nightmare gig. One of me worst. Oh, to be stuck in a different postcode to the bloody band. I think the Pogues played the same venue a week later and their fans totally trashed the joint.
A good memory about the night was that there was a Marlboro promotion and got given 2 x packs of twenty for free. Weren't Primal Scream supporting, sounded like a very poor Jesus and Mary Chain at the time!

Yeah, Primal Scream. Mind, wasn't Bobby in the Jesus & Mary Chain prior to that?

Yes, first lineup of JAMC was the two Reid boys and Bobby
Yes he was, glad he managed to reinvent the Scream. As well as being at Wembley, I have tapes of the Dusseldorf and Paris gigs of the same 6-8-10 tour. Did NO purposely play 3 aircraft hangars with apalling acoustics? Opportunity for a worst venue thread methinks!
Bit of an instrumental jam at Paris, wasn't it? Before the opening track. Sounded like it perhaps had potential....
the audience sing-along on Face Up was a classic moment - and a great moment when the stage backlighting all hit pure white & the front stage lights filled the Arena with light after the 'guess what I'm gonna do to you...' bit...
there weren't many seats left in the balcony area I was beached in after the gig neither...
Brotherhood Electronic Ecstasy (very good bootleg) Pumped Full of Drugs (official Live Video, on DVD in Japan)
be sure to check the New Order Discography site that has every song cross referenced...
Got told by a lad who attended said Wembley gig that Bobby Gillespie was so trashed he fell off stage midway through the Primal's show...............only to reappear somewhere near the front during the Order's set.
Apocraphylia or not, guys???????????

if not for Andrew Weatherall, i wouldn't even listen to Primal Sceam...Screamadelica is decent but nowhere near the majesty of Technique or Fox Base Alpha or The Stone Roses or several others from that era. The dubs Adrian Sherwood did of the Vanishing Point album (forgot the title) were better than the originals. Basically Gillespie is a talentless piece of shit who would be on the dole shooting smack if not for some talented producers and a good rhythm section.

Dusseldorf, because sequencer hadn't loaded for them to open with Touched. Hooky used the bassline later to surface on Love Less (just been listening to it !!)

Indeed - he was so trashed he did leave the stage frontwards... and spent a lot of the Primals set lying on his back on stage. Several other members of the band looked a little on the jazzy side too!
Bernard emptied a half finished bottle of something on his amp during Sister Ray for some reason I forget now too.
