How would you rate World In Motion (1989) single?

come on its not that bad, it certainly betters every other football song ive heard, and john barnes's rap is so awful its great, my sides split everytime i hear his bit
I won't rate it because I feel unable to do so. I just can't consider it as an ordinary New Order single. It has a very specific theme for a very specific occasion. It's just not possible to compare it to any other NO song.
Yet, out of its context, it's crap :D
Which New Order song features goat sounds in the backgroud? its off Technique, I think. that *is* side-splitting.
Well it's definitely not a good New Order-track, but it's surely the best football world cup-song of all time! 
- Classic New Order. And a brilliant feel-good record for a fantastic summer of 1990. Anyone who was ever in a pub or a club in that era when this came on will know what I mean (er, in England, of course).

Seriously though - product of its time. What more did we need in 1990? New Order, ecstasy and football!
My ex, Rowan, got interviewed by Q magazine - I think? - after Reading 98 as part of their gig review and they picked her out of the audience just cos she was singing along with such gusto to this record. Mind, silly cow then went on to be quoted as saying they'd played a totally different set to Mancland six weeks before. So, obviously we parted company!!! (The final straw was when she couldn't be bothered to do the MEN gig!) 
I remember I used to like that song. but because I taped the WIM b side from a local radio station. that was a total different version from the single. when I bought the vinyl maxi single I realized it sounded differently and the version I liked wasn´t there. even they cutted off some lyrics that appeared on the b side: "release yourself, don't ever go back the best for our defense is always attack realize that you have the power now is the time, this is the hour" and the samples of john barnes saying "my name is john barnes..." has anyone got this song? I think it only appeared on the cassette single, is that correct? I´d love to have it.
The song is indeed a product of it's time, but not my time, so I give it a 5. I'm pretty sure the song is alot better live and gets the crowd going, shouting "EN-GER-LAND!", so it still has some energy in it.
I feel the same way about Pet Shop Boy's "Go West". I never really cared for the song, nor do I remember when it was even a hit single, but when I saw them proform it live everyone including myself was shouting along with it. Some songs are just like that, I guess.

Have to agree with Jarvo, it was a product of its time and showed a bit of humour' plus it was a top summer....better the devil you know....

Its the best football song ever, and if only they released it for World Cup 2002 with Becks doing the rap, would have been song wrong it could be right...

i personally thought Three Lions (the original) was the best football song ever. But then again I've always been a bit of a Broudie fan

The man Jarvis is right, as ever. It was 1990; it was bloody hot; and we won the fucking World Cup. It's perfect.

as a NO song it sucks, but as a world cup song it's wildly entertaining. gotta keep it in it's context, though. 4.
