I bought today the U2 Best Of 1990->2000 Limited edition, and I must say, if New Order would have used the same concept for "International", everyone would have bought it.

This limited edition has 2 CDs, one of singles, one of B-Sides, plus a bonus DVD included with the package.

Yes there are two new songs, but still, there are many new mixes of songs, and the b-side contains a lot of remixes.

It cost me less than the half Retro will cost me, and I'm happy with it...

Very nice concept, it would have been nice to see something like this from New Order instead of the useless International...! (which I took in my hands, and finally decided to pass, there were a lot of copies, we'll wait for them to be on sale or maybe buy the US limited edition)

CD1 = singles, some of them remixed CD2 = B sides, some of them being remixes

Sounds like Substance, doesn't it? You're making a point here Spotnick: New Order should have released a Substance 1988-2002 compilation instead of International (which I didn't and won't buy).

I always thought it was a mistake, commercially, for Substance to be two CD's. The price for two CD's probably prevented a lot of people from buying it who otherwise might have, and most people don't care about what's on disc 2 anyway.

And they're wrong. Disc 2 is really worth it.

Except, in 1987, did they release it on CD? As far as I know, it was 2 different tapes, and a double LP of the 1st CD.. nothing else...?

(Maybe it was released in cd also, 1987 is pretty borderline)

i think it came out on CD at the same time. CDs had only 74 minutes then, that was why they cut some tracks short.

CD2 is well worth it. i was very excited by having these 24 tracks on CD all in one place, back then. it made me very happy

as for International, what the hell happened to the 6 original 12" concept? the only somewhat unique thing now on it is the Touched 12" which alot of people missed on CD earlier. what is the point of this CD? everybody complained about the lack of rarities and demos but it still is obvious that this collection is totally half-assed. a completely wasted opportunity that does not really serve anybody.
