From Bernard, on the Retro website (and booklet I assume):

It's my favourite after Regret on Republic. We used to play it, but we stopped after we got back together again because it hurt my hand. The chord shapes were quite awkward.

I'm very happy to read that because I've always loved that song... as a matter of fact, I wonder if I don't prefer it to Regret today!

Anyone else?

At the end of the day......it's my favorite song on Republic bar none.

If you had to put a gun to my head and demand I pick four songs off "Republic" to make it an EP, I'd choose the following in order of preference:

  1. Regret
  2. Everyone Everywhere
  3. Ruined In A Day
  4. World

So it seems like Barney and myself finally have ONE thing in common ! ;)

This really is a sublime New Order song, moody yet relaxed. Not instantly memorable, but has that mellowness that fits nicely in the sonic confusion of most of Republic. Oh yeah, and the live version (Reading '93) is top notch. :thumb:

i agree.

that's why i don't think republic is such a dismal failure, as some do.

great track...

Reading 93 version was class.. convinced a friend of mine to come to Reading for the day in '93 over the Notting Hill Carnival - Everyone Everywhere was his favourite no track... You can imagine.

I'd pick the same four, but not in that order of preference.

I'd have to swap Special in for World - if only cos there's more bass on the former.

World sounded like a bloody brilliant Electronic track to me.

Special is exactly that.

I dont think NewOrder will ever make a track like it again....

The best thing about World is the video :)

Don't start. You'll get Geaux Hagen banging on about Vicious Streak again.

Very good song indeed. And the chords are indeed hard to play for a very bad guitarist, which I am. But I thought that Barney was at least an average guitarist...

Definately one of the two good songs on Republic for mine (the other obviously being Regret). At the risk of sounding arrogant though, I never found it a particularly hard song to play on guitar. CTB :bear:
