Lets Go Question

Hi folks, I have a demo version of Lets Go on the end of the Town and Country 86 bootleg. This is what I was expecting on Retro. It does however have completely different lyrics and is in my opinion much better that the Retro version. Can anyone shed some light? Cheers.

By the one on Retro, I guess you mean the one with lyrics on disc 2, not the instrumental excerpt on the bonus disc?

The one on disc 2 was released as the b-side to the 1963 remix. I think Arthur Baker just got Barney into the studio to essentially record some vocals over the Salvation instrumental. The rest of them weren't talking to each other at the time, so I don't think they were involved.

The "waiting for so long" one on your bootleg is an early demo. It was being considered for inclusion on Low Life (?) at one point, but never made it. That version will probably never get released officially.

Cheers Old Blue, yep that is the version and its a shame as I've always thhought it great. Only taken 15 years for me to find that out!!

I don't see why New Order (Barney in particular) didn't like this demo enough to release it I feel it's just fine the way it is, but by tinkering with the vocals and production *do NOT leave out Hooky or the other good stuff of the original*, it would sound real nice

As far as the cheeseburger icon, I just had to use it :D

The song will always be an instrumental to me - don't like either of the vocal tracks recorded. By far the best way to start a gig, with a speeding instrumental take of Let's Go.

Yes! Almost seventeen years to the day, I was at the Manhattan, Leuven show, and sure enough they started with what I still regard as the best version of Let's Go I've ever heard!!! Promptly followed by Perfect Kiss and Age of Consent, no less :-)

Well, it sounds like parts of the song were reworked and carried over into the song Sooner Than You Think, so maybe it just was never meant to be.

Also, I noticed that on my CD copy of the Salvation soundtrack, the song Let's Go suffers from massive drop out. Is anyone else's copy like that?

I think mine is. But I haven't listened to it for several years, so I couldn't tell for sure. By the way, my favourite version is the demo with the old lyrics.

Yeah, it starts quietly and then suddenly gets REALLY LOUD. Glad it's not just my copy!

My copy has some chick sitting on a T.V. on the cover.

there's also a tape speed caused pitch change in the middle, they're all like that, those Salvation tracks have a low budget feel all around

I wonder why they even bothered putting it on Retro. If it's just going to be a small clip of it, there's really no point. They should have put The Happy One instead, I'm sure that would have fit on there.
