The new album scores must be new (and not from the original issues) but correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure Republic got 8 originally.
However I suppose it would have to mean Low Life and Technique would be rated 10+, if Republic is 8 when compared.

They actually gave Get Ready an 8 as well - it's still on their website. And, don't quote me, but I'm sure they gave Technique a 10 when it appeared. I'm 90% sure..

They actually gave Get Ready an 8 as well - it's still on their website. And, don't quote me, but I'm sure they gave Technique a 10 when it appeared. I'm 90% sure..
I think you're right Al - I'm pretty sure one of the rags gave it a 10/10 too...
Can't remember the NME review of Technique but I do recall the Melody Maker review being particularly gushing. Great line in it where the journo, sitting listening to it for the first time on the train, says someting along the lines of
"..I'm on track 3 and already I feel like I'm outside, out-running the train..."
perhaps these ratings are that particular writers marks out of 10 as oposed to the party line for the paper or the original marks?
that was a great line GF, have to remember that one.

Don't remember that phrase. I do remember a rather cheesy "a shimmering whirlwind of a song - if whirlwinds can shimmer, and I'm sure they can" comment on "Round&round", though!

The music press in general were falling over themselves when "Technique" came out: it was seen as their masterpiece, the album they'd always threatened to make. I guess it is their slab of perfect pop, though people round here (including me) seem to prefer the 'grit' and experimentation of LL or PC&L to the sheen of "Technique".
Funny how time changes things, given the lack of songs from said album's outings live or on "Retro"......
