Crowe allegedly attacked Moby in a public bathroom someplace. According to a recent interview with Moby its currently being dealt with by the lawyers.

I agree Moby can be very irritating, but this celebrity compulsion to attack the guy is weird.

Well, based on the whole MTV awards incident (where Eminem starting berating him and Truimph the Insult Comic Dog), I would say he's lightened up just a tad, Moby actually has a sense of humor and really doesn't seem to buy into the usual bullshit of celebirty (unlike Vanilla Ice there)

The attacker was Gillian - the real reason she has not been with NO was that she has been a sleeper agent in the Moby underworld... being patient... positioning herself for the exact moment when she could strike. There was one small error in the Moby report that the police was looking into. Was it 3 men that beat him up, or just one middle aged girl? Evidence suggests the latter. The lack of strong muscle, due to lack of animal proteins, was found to be the cause of Moby's inability to defend himself.

Sydney, I think it was. Russel Crowe seems to like getting into punchups in mensrooms. Funny thing is, he always comes off second best (maybe not with Moby though).

I used to like moby until his music was on every bloody commercial...blah. now when I listen to his music all I can see is ads for baileys irish cream.

i truly hope he never releases another album or single. Play was total plagurism and his previous work (except GO) was crap. I hate his "essays" in his CD's and he released a list of things he felt was "Wrong" when Everyting is Wrong was released.

moby used to DJ at the club i used to frequent in NYC back in the early '90s, and he also used to DJ at some of the parties i went to. i always thought he was really cool--going out to post-rave breakfasts with the gang, etc. he did sort of obsess over this one chick i knew--but it was rather sweet. one thing though...he's really, really short. poor guy, easily picked on.

I quite rate him actually. Done some good stuff, and has impeccable taste himself of course ;)

I'm a fan of Moby, but I felt as if his last album "18" seemed like "Play, Part 2". Every other album before that seemed really diverse and seperated from eachother. Especially "Animal Rights", that album cracks me up. Moby and hard rock just don't fit in the same sentence together.

Well, I'll agree with a lot of those former sentiments, but Moby isn't really as much of an "artist" as much as he is a figurehead to people who need to latch on to the whole icon-as-artist thing, something that should have dissolved around 15 years ago but hasn't.

Moby represents electronic music to most people who have no idea what it is. He is a media figure that is related to the media's fascination of latching on to someone as patron saint of a musical movement, when having no idea what that musical movement was about initially. He's constantly been cover-paged and interviewed in magazines that have been lagging in coverage of any electronic music in the first place. I don't really blame this so much on him as I do the easy targets he presents to lazy journalists (his relation to Herman Melville the most obvious).

Techno, House, Drum & Bass, etc. along with any other significant musical progression of say, the last 80 years in my country, the U.S., has been black driven. All of the records Moby was playing early on in his djing days were from the ghettos of Detroit, Chicago, New York etc. These early incarnations of house, techno, etc. are what this music is about. The reason why Moby is so big is because labels and record industry people had no figurehead for electronic music because they didn't feel they could promote it. They saw it as a lost cause because anything outside of rap/hip-hop/r&b was not promotional for black artists with real soul, in their lackluster and wrong opinions.

The true people that should be garnering the respect that he gets are on labels such as UR, Axis, Metroplex, Transmat, Relief, Trax, Dance Mania, etc. Because these labels are still underground, thrive on being unique, and create true music, we are left with Moby. Which is not as much of a knock against Moby as one against journalists in the U.S. and their laziness. They need a centerpiece for the scene that they just have no clue about, really.

And the only thing I can say that I have against Moby is, well, he dated Natalie Portman, now, didn't he?

i thought he got famous cuz of all the ads he sold his music to. that was why the record sold. it was a good year before anyone bought that green album (i think it's go!...or whatever his biggest hit was).

anyways, i don't read music press, watch mtv, much music etc or listen to commercial radio...so i don't get why people here are pissed off at him. i'm sure you all have your reasons for wanting moby dead, though i'm totally ignorant about them. ok...what's my point?

well, relatively and comparatively speaking, he's a breath of fresh air when i do venture into top 40 land. i mean, who would you prefer? creed or moby? i'd pick moby anyday. and i've seen a couple of interviews with moby, and he doesn't look like such a prick.

Moby made ONE offhand comment about Eminem's lyrics....while Eminem was clearly only expressing his thoughts and Moby had no real right to critisize him, Eminem doesn't know how to let things go. Moby doesn't like how you rap about killing women and such, get over it. Even if he does, all those thousands of "slim shadys" out there will do his dirty work (aka, this recent attack)...a shame

In all seriousness, the squabble between Moby and Eminem (I constantly feel like I'm mispelling his name, but I don't care) is kind of important. Moby's critique of Em's lyrics is his right as a US citizen, and someone needs to remind Marshall that not everyone is gonna kiss his ass. He's a thug being rewarded for airing his dirty laundry in public, and while he has every right to do that, people like Moby (and myself) who see no positive value to his "art" are free to criticize it and hold him accountable for his work. Mr. Mather's followers didn't act on any instruction from him to attack Moby, they just were taking up the cause for Em's disdain of him. I hope the punks who did this get caught, this shouldn't happen to any artist. Just think about if they had had something worse than mace.

They don't exactly sound like contenders for tough guys of the year do they? I mean, THREE of them to take on the 4ft pacifist Vegan powder puff - and even _then_ they felt worried enough that they had to arm themselves with mace.

I don't know what I think of Eminem. He does have talent, but I think I'm too old and too non-American for him to mean much to me. He also seems a bit too conservative and conformist.

I wouldn't say that we HAVE to be on his side.... this kinda reminds me of a debate my cousin and I had regarding his twin brother, who was such a heavy Billy Corgan posuer. i can't remember what band Billy said he hated that week, but my cousin's twin (who is also my cousin...bit confusing to keep going on about it without saying as much...oh well) decided that he, too, hated this artist and could only offer the reasons of poor little Billy.

Should music fans involve themselves in musicians' fueds? I guess that would be the crux of the issue, because let's say you're a fan of Moby but like M&M's music too. Where do you stand when one slams the other or is attacked by rabid fans from one camp? Any true music fan, if they were caught between two opposite factions, should just keep listening to records while the fight brews outside, in my opinion. Just because one artist dislikes another doesn't mean you stop listening to one or the other and choose sides.

That said, Em deserves to get HIS ass sprayed with mace by some hyper Vegan pals
