I've always been curious to know what the biggest crowd the band have drawn on their own steam is. That's to say the biggest crowd for a New Order gig, not a festival featuring the band even if they were the headliners.
I would guess it was probably something on the North American Technique tour.

Then you have to think non-festival gigs.. because even if they were playing Reading 98, they were playing before Garbage :D

Finsbury Park in June - 25,000 people surely? That wasn't really a Festival, was it? More of an outdoor gig with lots of support.
Some of the American gigs must've been huge - the likes of the Shoreline takes maybe 15,000+.
Indoors: Finsbury and Wembley 87, G-Mex 88 (and 86, I guess, tho' that too was a Festival), the NEC and the SECC 89 all held maybe 10k'ish people. The Nynex and Ally Pally gigs probably had more attendees (the latter certainly, not sure about the former as it felt empty) but then I guess those should really be classed as festivals too, of sorts.
Hi Al, I think the NEC holds @13,000 when it is standing at the front, 11,000 when all seated. Finsbury Park has to be the biggest I agree.
good question...nec, wembley were huge and horrible...gmex was large but likeable...they stand out for me as big venues that were very full...as i have stated before...i started to lose interest in following the band when i ended up sitting about a football pitch length away from the band...still i dont think i can officially answer a very good question....next
Realistically out of the estimated 25k that were at Finsbury how many do you think actually went to primarily see NewOrder??

Yeah, and thinking back, I think maybe 7k of the 9k people at Finsbury 87 were there solely for the Railway Children.. 
Do you really think there was 25K at Finsbury this year? I have serious doubts. I remeber hearing the touts moaning about how shite their day had been. And there was massive press advertising right up to the week before the gig, never a good sign.
I'd say nearer 15,000. Although watching the DVD it did seem busier than I remember it. And about ten times better!

The infamous Electronic debut slot before Depeche Mode at the Dodgers Stadium in 90 was put at over 60k...

As for the biggest crowd, they played the Rose Bowl in either 88 or 89 and it was sold the fuck out!

I was always one of those annoying drunken bstards that pushed my way to the front from last orders at the nearest pub to the venue, I could never bear standing a football pitch away. The only problem was, when you took friends to a gig with you and they would follow you down to the front, theyd get a beating!
i take your point...however at the wembley and nec gigs i got my tickets late...hence was placed in seats miles away...impossible to get near the front...
