TPK (live Retro) + Let's Go (extract)

With the resources they had to select from, they chose this version? One that was already available and not that good to begin with? WTF?

Let's Go (extract) - what's the fucking deal here? Isn't it easier to just put the whole song on rather than fade it out?

i wish we could have a live CHAT session with someone from the band or perhaps Andy R.

Is there anyway 445 or someone else can arrange such a good thing for us fans?

If I were the whining type, I would be whining about the Let's Go extract thing... that was just plain weird. That track making the CD is criminal.

the song itself is very good in my opinion but the fact that it was edited is totally bogus.

maybe i'm just like my mother (she's never satisfied)

I am one of those people who typically do not turn their car off until the song I am listening to is over. So, having a CD do it everytime I hear it is like wearing a 5 year old's underwear. I guess I can find a way to make it work if it is my only choice, but I wish it weren't like that.

another observation about Retro...

the live version of TurnMyWay brilliantly illustrates the pointlessness of having BC provide guest vocals...a bit of the old celebrity cock sucking in my opinion...his voice and barney's DO NOT WORK TOGETHER...awful...a ruin of a great recording...

Barney - "Wow you liked Joy Division?" Billy - "Yes" Barney - "Why don't you sing on our next record" Billy - "Cool"

BC's voice is something you will either love or hate right away. I suppose, for many people, Robert Smith's voice is the same way. I love RS's voice, and therefore I love the Cure. I do not care much for the high pitched nasal voice of BC's, therefore I do not own one SPs album. I do give him a lot of credit as a sing writer though... he is very gifted. If his voice were different, I would probably love them too.

My take on Let's Go is that, hum, the copyright must be owned by another label...

I don't see the point either.. I have the Salvation Soundtrack, it's not easy to find, but well.. there was still some place on the CD !

I like it on Best Of.

I think we've went over it before, but here it goes again...

My major complaint is the edited version of Let's Go, both versions that appear on RETRO.

Now, the first time it pops up, it's on the FAN disc. It's the 94/95 (I forget) remixed version from the Nineteen63 single. This song also appeared on the US 'Best Of', but it had a different ending to it. Rather than fade out, it came to a stop with some cool synth noises. This is the version they could of put on the box set. since it sounds a bit better.

Second, the version of Let's Go on the bonus CD is edited. The CD is only 55 minutes, so it would have fit. Now, I have this song already, but my version on the Salvation CD suffers from sound drop out. I asked everyone here about it, and so far it looks like every copy is like that. Having this track entirely remastered would have been great, but instead they tease us with an edit. Nothing's perfect, I suppose...

I have to agree with the live version of TPK is quite bad. It is on BBC Live Radio 1, and whoever mixed it did a piss-poor job...during the climax of the song, when you're supposed to hear Gillian's synth above all others, you hear almost a vacuum of silence (a little of Barney's cowbell and low bass noises). Or maybe it was just Gillian screwing up again

Anyways, they could've picked another version of it, they can do so much better!

Yeah, I liked the studio version of that track, but on the live version Billy's voice is awful.

That live version of TPK from the video shoot isn't the one they used for the actual video. Not a complaint at all, just more of a thing i noticed.

How do you know that?

I was actually thinking the same thing...i have an very good sounding mp3 of the video version (i assume from the 12"promo) but it sounds different...the drums in the version on Retro are out of time in the beginning but the MP3 version i have is perfect....and a better take....

the drums are slightly out of time at the start, the sweeping synth sounds before the frogs bit cut off before they begin looping and barney doesn't go "woo!" at the end of the "... kiss of death" lyric.

Ahh.....thanks for that...I thought so....the TPK video mix on RETRO is not the same as the video clip one..... a bit disappointing really..... but I supposed the good news now is...the US version of INTERNATIONAL CD will have TPK video on DVD...!!!

:nonono: Dissapointing indeed about the TPK viddy version...but there are in fact THREE (3) versions of the "Video Version/Edit) and they all sound just slightly different.

The version on the bonus disc is in fact the real gem...being the virtually unmastered version before being washed through the mixing desk for a quicky. (This is the video version used on the Chinese best of video VCD set...so it's a bit out of time in spots with the video...think LWTUA)

There are way too many TPK promo 12" records out there...3 for the US alone...so you gotta get them all to actually get all the different "Video" mixes...I found them actually by accident, but I've got a plethora of TPK versions lying around...which makes for an interesting conversation piece at times.

The on eon Retro is mono! I have the video edit from a promo 12" and that's stereo. Have to hunt down the yank "International, I guess..."

It's still the same performance as the video though, isn't it??

Andy.
