Warsaw - primarily a Warsaw or JD song ?

Just interested in peoples' perspectives, that's all. Quite a lot was said about Ceremony, a lot of it valid. It strikes me that there are many parallels with Warsaw - personnel and name changes etc etc. That and a touch of the Oliver Reeds ;)

No doubt about it, a Warsaw track. They were called Warsaw when it was recorded, then changed their name to Joy Division before it's release. The original record even states "we were called Warsaw at the time this was recorded", or something to that extent. That's my conclusion based on facts.

However, you can look at it from a different perspective. Warsaw's sound changed drastically after the other Steve was kicked out of the band. So maybe this was the beginning of Joy Division with the new Steve, but they didn't decide to change their name 'till a month or so later. So sound wise it could be a Joy Division song since the new Steve (Morris) became part of the band's permanent line up.

But I'm a twat that follows the facts, so my vote's been made. It's a Warsaw song, based on facts, but still possibly a Joy Division song... After all they did continued to work it into their live set, even in 1980.

Yeah, and quite why the blistering version from the Effenaar did not make it onto 'Les Bains Douches', I'll never understand.
