WORST COVER OF AN N.O. or J.D. SONG!

I would have made this a poll, but I have no idea how many covers there are! :p

The worst cover I could think of is Orgy's cover of Blue Monday. Obviously, those guys were a one-hit wonder, and the hit wasn't even an original song!

Another horrible cover comes from the (second) release of a JD tribute album called "Ceremonial: A Tribute to Joy Division". The band, Kismet, did an abyssmally horrible cover of LWTUA. It sounds like Bela Legosi trying to sing it! (Sorry!) :(

Do you know of any other horrible NO/JD covers?

The Cure's "Love Will Tear Us Apart". i love the Cure as a band, but this version is horrible!

Ice Cream Bandits' cover of Perfect Kiss ;)

I rather like Orgy's cover of BM. Don't like anything else they've done, mind.

Didn't Paul Young cover LWTUA? Never heard it, but I bet its ghastly.

And didn't Beethoven rip off their Xmas flexi? Bastard.

Paul Young definately. Hearing that cover was just sickening.

NOOL had it in their cover archives at one point, i believe.

I also dislike grace jones's cover of she lost control.

I did like velocity girl's version of your silent face

This last Summer there was an abysmal cover of BLT done in an Eurodancey style by a girls group. It even made the charts. :barf:

Its not Spanish by any chance is it....?

Don't think so, they sounded quite British but I do not even remember their name.

Oh its just that i've got a spanish cover of BLT!!

Found them! They are called Commercial Break Up (Funny or what?) and they're not Spanish (My patriotic feelings are sufficiently strained by Las Ketchup as it is).

Their other biggish hit is "All I love is green" which is sufficiently close to EGG as to have me in a cold sweat. :hate:

How about the Boo Radleys doing True Faith?

I wonder how long it's gonna be before some wag comes out with "New Order doing "???

Damn - last bit got cut off - should have been "New Order doing -insert JD song here-"

Bizarre Love Triangle by Eight Circle...

there is NO contest here, this one makes Paul Young's LWTUA look like a classic...

Think about BLT done by the early Metallica... then think of it 1000 times worst.. ;)

True Faith by the Boo Radleys is called Boo Faith...

Hot Shot City by David Hasselhoff is particualrly bad :)

So long as Michael Bolton doesn't lock his cruise missles on Blue Monday for a soulful "cover", the world is safe from the ultimate bad NO cover....

I downloaded this really bad LWTUA cover done by this band...name escapes me, because I deleted it. It included loads of violins and really bleak sounds and the vocalist was whispering and not even singing.

A bit like the original ;)

LWTUA by The King.

The King was an Elvis impersonator, and he covered the song all Vegas showtune Frank Sinatra style.

:violent: The Paul Young Massacre. Soft git.

i hated frente's BLT. i thought it was poop.

Don't knock the Boo Radley's version of True Faith - at least it was different. Besides, all of the band were well known to be big New Order fans, but that doesnt mean they have to play the song in the same style does it?

I thought it was OK, a sweet bit of inconcequential fluff. But I swear she sings 'bolt of poo' at the start.

No, I think she actually says "bolt of blue"---her diction isn't that great.

Oh, yeah...I'd forgotten about this one. I heard a bootleg recording of (supposedly) 10,000 Maniacs covering LWTUA. What really made it horrible was that the keyboard player was using a pipe-organ patch on the synth instead of strings, and another male vocalist besides the lead female (who DOESN'T REALLY sound like Natalie Merchant) who sings an octave below her to make it sound like this ugly goth-wannabe cover. Dreadful.

I used to have an mp3 of this somewhat funny cover of Love Vigilantes by this Irish band (can't remember the name, sorry). Complete with accordion and Irish whistle! :)

i hate when the "coverers" change the lyrics and make them sound more melodramic and juvenile... like Billy Corgan did for "isolation" or Orgy

wonder if anybody remembers Grace jones "losing control"?

I think it was the Blue Oyster Band and it was not bad when compared to others previously mentioned

The Oyster Band definitely did 'Love Vigilantes'.

Devine & Statton (or possibly Statton & Devine) did a version of 'Bizarre Love Triangle' on their 'Prince of Wales' album, and Even As We Speak had a go at it on a 7" EP on Sarah...but I haven't heard either of those.

But 'Being Boring' by the Pet Shop Boys: that was fairly close to turning into BLT.

Like Moby did on New Dawn Fades....

Oh, and Therapy? murdering Isolation too - there is true evil in the world after all...

Heh...I thought of another one. I never really liked this band, because they sound like shit IMHO...but BUSH did this wretched, make-me-vomit-cover of "In A Lonely Place" to the sequel of the movie "The Crow" (sorry...forgot what it's called).
