have they taken their toll on barney? i think he's pretty alright, he's not in rehab or lost a kidney or something. looks healthy enough.
but it would be nice to hear hooky do some lead vocals. he hasn't done that in new order since when? movement? but if i know any better, hooky is probably too lazy to do it. you know, who want's the burden of writing lyrics and doing the difficult task of singing and playing at the same time when you don't have to?;)
No, not Hooky. But why not Steve? According to the Barnster ((c) Huntsman), he's got the best voice.
Yes, I've been saying this for awhile now: Hooky should get at least one track, just one to sing on. I thought his work on Monaco was top-notch and refreshing. I still want Barney to resume singing and writing, but would be nice to hear the Hookster nab one track, even if it's a B-side.
Actually I love the way Barney sings so this is one thing I would left untouched. I cannot picture NO songs sung by anyone else.
As for Steve having the best voice that's highly debatable, I think the Barnster ((c) Huntsman) was being nice towards him.
i think barney was joking about steve, since we never really heard him sing. well, you can count that shitty demo with steve on it, but the sound quality is so bad that i don't think it should count.
but yes, i think we should hear steve sing.
Haven't Hooky and Tony Wilson said similar things about Steve though? So it's not just a case of Barney joking/being nice... Unless it's a collective running gag or something.
Nah it simply has to be Barney singing as that is the very essence of NewOrder imo :)
Besides Hooky gets too much of the mic when they play live as it is ![]()
We've heard Steve sing, on the early stuff, he does have a good voice, it probably is better than Barney's, which is nothing special. His vocals have "personality", but his range and intonation suck. I would like to see Hooky and Steve each at least get one song; maybe a little competition would bring out the best in Barney.
I don't much care for Hooky's singing voice.
They should let Gillian do some singing, if she's still in the band.
Maybe at least some sort of duet thing, instead of bring in some else like Billy corgan or that primal scream guy

I know!!! How about a duet between Hooky and Gillian? But I would Doubt (Even Here) that would happen :)
I remember reading about Steve having the best voice somewhere ages ago (was it the Mark Johnson book?) but in the end they didn't want a singing drummer - too Phil Collins. I'd personally like to see more backing vocals from Hooky - he did it all the time in JD (aside from the old Walked In Line on the Warsaw album, which sounds like Barney), and I think that's probably the best we can hope for at this stage.
C'mon Y;all you know Dreams never End is great Song Im sure Hooky can do something great with his vocals again a track or 2
at least do a "Dreams Never End 2003"
keep the mixture that made them awesome... whatever they were doing on PC&L and Lowlife should be the order of the day... even if they got older and changed through time. I think Barney did a fine job with Get Ready.
I think yes, even for a b-side or something. Dreams Never End is an excellent song, they should do it live.
But yes Get Ready is a top album so ive got no problem with Barney.
cheers ALEX
