Ceremony at the Town & Country - band start playing with the house lights still up, rather bizarrely. Whole crush moves twenty paces to the left, my shoe decides to stay where it is. Crush moves twenty paces to the right and I'm reunited with a shoe again. Close call that one.
Agree about the pain thing from Finsbury 87. Pure bloody bedlam. Have never since witnessed a crush like that at any gig by any other band.

the finsbury tent was mayhem...not being a giant..i made my way to the front quite early in the day...by the time the order appeared i was shagged...and then the CRUSH...
Agree with you about Finsbury 1987 which was mayhem. Was my first ever gig. Spent most of the afternoon in an Irish bar nearby. I think ACR were on when me and Lorraine got in. Tried unsuccesfully to push our way to the front. Got about halfway by the time NO came on. When they opened with TBTHOG there was an almighty surge of people behind us which led to me having to escort Lorraine to the back of the tent. Seeing that she was ok I decided to go back and was able to get to the front. Spent the rest of the gig using every drop of energy I had just to keep on my feet as I remember people falling and being trampled over. The crowd going especially wild when Age Of Consent and Sunrise were played. At the end of the concert I met Lorraine at the bar and we hurried to the tube station only to get to St Pancras and see the last train already leaving. Having no money left an uncomfortable night was spent in the station and we got home the next day.

Yeah, back to its original name - the Forum. That's where ACR were due to play recently. But cancelled. Last band I saw there were The Fall; day before we headed off to Paris for New Order last November. They were sh*te!
Indeed, Finsbury Park. Took me mate Jimmy down to London for his first ever New Order gig, and boy did he get a surprise! Weather outside was just as bad as Finsbree this year but at least we were under cover. ACR opened their set with 'Sounds Like..' and even THEY had a crush that I've never since witnessed at a gig. Absolute mayhem. I'm a big strong boy and was only 19 at the time but how I stayed on my feet for New Order is beyond me. Bar G-Mex 88, perhaps their last rowdy gig of note??? And on a huge scale too.. .

p.s. don't forget Happy Mondays and Railway Children who played that day. What a gig !!!
Excluding the Tower Ballroom, has to be Reading 89. I had been up the front moshing for the House of Love and then the Sugarcubes both favourites at the time. New Order came on and I was shagged, absolutely knackered and very hot. Pints of water were being thrown over the audience but alweays missed me. That is until Temptation (my favourite) kicked in at the same time as a pint of cold water splashed on my head. That gave me a fifth wind and I carried on until the end. Unfortunately whilst having to sleep at Reading station I had cramp attacks 3 times, ver painful but it was worth it!

Simply being there, right at the front at the Apollo in 98. It was surreal to see the band I had followed for 11 years actually entering the stage right in front of me.
The bizarre but funny intro by Alanwise then Regret ...
Finally managed to get a copy of this a few months ago & it still sends shivers down by back. (Thanks to Mike Gaobest btw :) )

Are we talking about the 'Town & Country gig around the same time as 'Royal Albert Hall..? The crush at 'Finsbury was a nasty one with plenty of people getting stamped on, a mate had 2 ribs busted as a result....heavy.
yes i think the rah gig was two nights after the town and country gig...never made the rah gig...one of my big regrets !!!

erm...1963 & Temptation, and TPK as the encore at MY first ever gig, the NEC 89, Regret at Reading 98 with the memorable intro from Barney, fucking up Guilty Partner at the MENA, Temptation playing us into 99 at the Ally Pally, hearing Atmosphere and the rest of the JD songs at Reading 98, Hooky growling at us at all the concerts, Love Vigilanties kicking off MOVE......there are just too many, even fer someone with a memory like mine:D
I agree. Those first few seconds of recognition, Decades, Festival Hall May '84, as half the audience went f****** h*** (listen to the boot) when Hooky's bass started. Nobody could belive it. I will never forget it.

...oh BEST moments....um, I liked Hooky's tribute at the start of Ceremony at Finsbury 2002.
Number 1 is easy.
DECADES at the Royal Festival Hall 1984. Hooky was complaining about having to pay £400 for playing after time before the band let us have the greatest 4 or so minutes in NO history.
RUN in Santa Barbara 1989. Kind of an 'in joke' moment with Hooky and I when the lighters came out and it wasn't even dark. Still makes me giggle to this day.
HURT at the Brixton Ace 1983. The first track I ever saw NO play live and the whole experience was breathtaking.

Dead right, that WAS the greatest moment in NO history. What he said was "you know this encore's costing us 400 quid, that's a bit more expensive than your fiver, innit?" Or something like that. Then the drums started. Then the bass started. Everyone went ape.
I loved it when Alan Wise came on at Reading98 after the gig & sad "that's a hard act to follow isn't it?"
