Confusion is mine, on this site they write in the Lyrics that they sing get a tan, but on several sites they say that they sing, don't get a town. At first on neworderonline they write get a town but they change later. Which of this two alternative is correct?
It's sounds in my ears like tan, but at the same time when you think on it, he can also sing town.

Funny...I always thought (and actually still do) that it is/should be "turn"..
You dont get a "turn" like this for nothing so here's what you've got to do...
As in opportunity... to fix something opr success or just life in general.
This makes far more sense to me in the context of the song.
On the other hand, they were in Ibiza for this and if I had to choose one of the two I would say tan before town

Yeah the primary reason that I think/thought it was "Turn" is that Barney is being typically sarcastic and cynical...
about the fact that its just like him and anyone to squander a "turn" or "chance" do to or become someone good and instead they waste it by working their way to the top of the world (where its lonely heheh) and blowing up their lives....he is literally running (yes thats where I think the song title comes from as well) so fast and hard that he is lonely and disoriented...
But Barney is also an incredibly stream of conscious writer and this is just one interpretation
From the Official New Order songbook - which probably is as wrong as the rest of it (and Run is really called Mesh, was written by Joy Division and has a large plaster-of-paris penis as the record sleeve), the word you are looking for is TAN.
I always had this one down as "tan."
Pretty emphatic voting - I think we can accept this to be the case until next time Barney re-records the vocals for Run3 (2003 denvermix)

I always considered it to be "time" too.
But isn't that the best thing about lyrics...they can mean whatever you want them too? Especially Barney Sumner's lyrics, they're quite detached and objective.
As for the John Denver thing, when I first heard of that, I'd been listening to "Run" for a long time and had never ever noticed any similarity. I think it's because NO's style is so different from Denver's acoustic guitar setup that any melodic similarities are lost in the production. (And lyrical meaning).

I too think it's "TIME". But then again I'm going deaf due to so many years of listening to the Order at the loudest volume possible!
The band themselves say "Tan". You'd hope they would know, seeing as they wrote it (well the lyrics anyway ;))

They only played it once since he began using a teleprompter. The lyrics are written as "TAN" on the official New Order songbook, and that's good enough for me.
