Having Simple Minds covering one of the most revered ,classic tracks of all time makes me sigh in disbelief. I'm referring to the news that those sad, washed up, hacknyed fucking twats are covering Love Will Tear Us Apart. As if Paul Young wasn't bad enough. What is it with these talentless shits??

Re Chris P:

  • Didn't think Simple Minds still existed? - Thought Simple Minds died as a band years ago.

If this is true, what is airplayed at the most popular programmes isn't always the best. As it always has been.

Cheers to John Peel! If there only was more like him.

They'll get no airplay - that's why they're doing a covers album in the vain hope someone will play a familiar tune. This news makes my blood boil..... there should be a law against it!

I seem to remember "I Travel" (or whatever it was called) was a bit of a choooon back in the early 80's.

I've got a New Order mate from Edinburgh who sits seven seats away from Jim Kerr at Parkhead!! I'll get him to have a word!

What was that one that got covered recently, with a crap Queen sample all over it..that was alright..'Tale of cities' or something poncey like that

'Don't you forget about me' was a good song, and the albums before 'New Gold Dream' were good, upbeat dancy tunes like The American, I Travel, Love Song were all skankin' numbers and then they went all poncey and shech! I damn sure don't want to see them murder a classic track like L.W.T.U.A. but let's wait and see, you never know, it may be good!

Simbolic Mind-set, what a bunch of cat wankers. About as inspiring as Big Country never were (except for the song 'Look Away' which was ace). The best thing Jim Kerr ever did was spunk up Patsy Candlelight... and then he bottled it and she threw him away like a used tambake.

Jarvo... what's your prediction for the saturday showdown with the 'El Greeko's? - are we going to finally beat the bastard Germans for instant qualification or was the 5-0 drubbing all for nothing?

haven't heard it but the ceremony mailing list had someone saying its a loopy thing with the title repeated endlessly!

the waterfront had a good chugging bass line

Talking about Simple Minds

Should i speculate: - In my opinion, I do not think they will make a good cover, but of course it would be interesting hearing their tribute, though...would it quite as good as The Swans?

In fact, "Today I died again"(mentioned in the deleted message up there somewhere), the track after "I travel" on third LP, is one brilliant timeless dance track, that leaves you optimistic - in spite of a title that sounds pessimistic.

Apologize for the deleted message up there - trying a conversation in the same style as the beginning of the thread.

A slogan at the end - Music is experimentation with words, movement, sounds, rhythm = communication

I thought Alive and Kicking is a really excellent tune

that's about it though

With you all the way Chris P. remember their godawful festering cacophony of spluttering farts that was their version of Prince's "Sign 'o' the times" back in 1990? Surviving hearing that one once was fucking traumatic enough. Simple Minds. Such a fucking perfect name for a band eh?
