5 8 6 is easily my favorite new order song, but i haven't noticed its name on any threads that i've read thus far, so i thought i would ask!

Gave it a 7/10 (ignoring the slightly overlong intro)

Your favorite song? Wow, I have never heard anyone saying that before. I guess that means no matter what song, no matter what some of us think about a song, there is probably some one who loves it. That's pretty cool.

9 - the first two minutes are a bit drab, but the final two minutes are simply awesome :)

i have always loved the more moody minimalist peel session version of 586, but the end of the Lp 586 is great also... both great New order

8, just cuz i liked the ending bass and keyboard line. IMHO it sounds too much like blue monday.:o

6, the intro doesn't do it for me

Well it's mine as well. I wrote something proclaiming it's emergance above The Village(previous and again not very popular favourite) a while back. I too was always of the opinion it was too similar to Blue Monday but over the years that has faded leaving it standing alone in it's own right.

10 always. My fave too. The similarity to Blue Monday is misleading - Blue Monday actually evolved out of 5 8 6, so things should be viewed the other way round.

I just don't like that song...

Don't ask me why, it's just like that!

I gave an 8. But I prefer the Peel Sessions version.

Always loved that song...it's up there for me alright. Nice and fruity flavor, refreshing and no sour aftertaste! It's got an 8 for my $$$

great song and i do like what they did with 586-blue monday, and the beach, it was kinda of a new order style concept album the intro does drag a bit though, but if not as much as video 586!!!! still a really good song

I give it a nine but the Peel sessions gets a A+. Some songs are very easy to get lost in the electro water. Great song.

A 7. The Peel sission version is - as said- much better. It's more Giorgio Morodorish, with that whipping beat. It can easily be played at one of them electroclash parties.

What I dislike most about the PCL version is that cheesy state-of-the-art-in-1982 echoeffect after the intro - "I see danger-danger-danger".

6 but only because of the intro. Barney's vocal line is lovely. I'd love to get my mits on it and radio edit it into a hit....it's waiting to scream all over your local station.

More agreement from me, too! But have you heard the Video 586-version on Touch Tone, which lasts for more than 22 minutes!!! If you like them minimalistic, well... there you have it. Come to think of it though, that Peel session EP of June 1st 1982 is so fucking awesome, unbelievable!

Video 5 8 6 is absolutely mind-blowing.

It gets a 7 out of 10 from me if you include the horse manure first 90 seconds. Get rid of that and it's a 9 out of 10. I prefer the peel session version, most of all, however. The PCL version includes the only example of a hook bass riff that I actually don't like. Get rid of that, and I really love the song. Either way, 5 8 6 is definitely one of my favorites, though certainly not in my top 10, or even top 15.

I just love it. It's a perfect song. I don't mind the intro. It bothered me a long time, but now I seemed to get over that. It's just a question of getting used with it. Obviously somebody never gets...

I love the hookys bass line and barneys "we fucking rock the world" sounding lyrics.

Though I haven't heard the Video 5-8-6 nor either the Peel Sessions one, so my opinion could change after I've heaed those.

And by the way. The "no fading" thing between "the village" and "586" is brilliant on my opinion. It's got that experimental thing on it. Groundbrakers you see...

6 out of 10. It reminds me of THE CURE and OPPOSITION, but I prefer "Blue Monday" by far. I really don't like VIDEO 5-8-6.
