Does that really exist?
Somebody pointed that one in the french forum, I finally found where it was stated in the english forum, so I'm.. puzzled..

..Could this be that one with Age of consent, Sooner than you think, Blue monday, In a lonely place and Temptation? It appears under several labels, and I have some recordings where it appears as "NO at Saturday Night Live" or "1985 BBC Soundcheck" or "Sat. Night Live Soundcheck 1985".

That´s great, I´ll check for the audio quality. 
I remember there are really great versions of Temptation & Sooner than you think. 
A little bit of Blue monday appears on NewOrderStory, isn´t it?
the quality is pretty good, and temptation is probably the best version of the song there is some classic barney antics as well, he keeps telling steve to speed up the pace of in a lonley place

So it's not actually "Rock Around The Clock" the song, it's the name of the session or show... !!!
im pretty sure this was broadcast on tv as well i think i saw stills from it somewhere and it was called "rock around the clock" we are going to have to wait for one opf thase experts like benny to chime in because i have absolutly no clue what i am talking about

Rock Around The Clock - New Order live from the BBC's Maida Vale studios.
This marathon television and radio extravaganza occurred in 1984. It pulled together music from around the world and featured a set from New Order from the BBC's own studios. Back in those days Radio 1 wasn't broadcast on FM only on Medium Wave (275 and 285 metres). So the broadcast used an old-fashioned 'simulcast' to let those viewers with FM radio to hear the show in stereo on their radios on Radio 2 (FM). New Order reputedly arrived late and in a bad mood, having got stuck in traffic on a hot day. They played a storming set though consisting of 'Sooner Than You Think', 'Age of Consent', 'In A Lonely Place', 'Blue Monday', 'Temptation'. Bernard Sumner memorably introduces the closer 'Temptation' with "an atmospheric song to get us out of unatmospheric place". Sadly the visuals fade out towards the end has the TV part of the show had to go to another item. Fortunately though the simulcast continued on Radio 2 and bizarrely continue whilst an old Blancmange video is shown on screen!

The NewOrderStory version was originaly broadcasted by Granada TV in 1982, I think. It´s great too, but I prefer this one.

Helped to date their appearance on Radio 1, plus gives may details surrounding the appearance. Article also has photos taken from their session. don't have notes regarding when their "Saturday Live" was first aired.

I found this little extract in the January 1997 edition of Q Magazine. It was in a section called "TV Hell" which reviewed less than successful performances of bands on TV:
For New Order's appearance on BBC2's 1985 special Rock Around The Clock, the sound wasn't strictly "good", but the real problem was Bernard Sumner, merrily "speeding off his nut. He was singing badly off-key, and you could see people in the control room wincing." explains associate John Barrett. "You can hear him telling drummer Steve to speed up, even on slow songs like In A Lonely Place. In one song he changed the words to, 'I wish someone would tell me what the fuck we should do.' Typical New Order, highly entertaining."

Temptation
Really good version, the music stops, and Barney goes into the "Oh you got green eyes..." bit acapella, he also says (in an undertone) at the "Oh, it's the last time" line, "Yes, it is."...and of course, gets off a "last FUCKING time". And there's a funny sort of spaghetti- western bass riff at the end." If anybody can id this, I'd be grateful.

Well, I knew I had those, N21 posted them on his site when it was still opened, but labeled as "Saturday Live", so I was sure it was live versions, might have checked them once or twice only, but now that I know it's studio.. that petition is going to have a few new songs added :D

I would imagine they might likely have been asked sometime around the releases of either Blue Monday, True Faith, or Regret (but of course Kajagoogoo, Rick Astley, and Billy Ray Cyrus respectively were booked :p)

From 1990 to 1993 I use to think that it really happened, but later discovered that it was really another BBC Session.

I think I remember him intro-ing a song as "an atmospheric song for an atmospheric place", wasn't it on TV, or am I confusing it with the "Play at Home" series on BBC2 that also featured the Bunnymen?

The "atmospheric" barb was an an introduction to "Temptation" on Rock Around The Clock, and for a second it seemed (at least to me) they were going to play "Atmossphere" this of course in the days when they rarely played any Joy division songs, and certainly none on the telly.
Incidentally, about a month before this programme Tony Wilson had given an interview to Radio 1 talking up a new track called "Perfect Kiss" so for ages I though "Sooner than you think" was called "Perfect Kiss".
Did anyone really believe they played a cover version of "Rock Around The Clock". (Look I thought they were going to play Atmosphere - we all get the wrong idea sometimes!!)
The programme ended about 6 a.m. on the Sunday with the Love Will Tear Us Apart video, the last to be screened before the wrap up.

All I can remember about this is New Order clashed with Brookside! So would've been about 5 or 6pm. The radio broadcast was delayed somewhat, about 10mins behind the TV?!

Traffic was horrendous in Portsmouth too - I had just arrived there a day early, and never did get to see the Saturday Live broadcast on TV (luckily it was on the car stereo). Trying to get across Portsmouth at 5/6pm when Pompey have just finished their first home game of the season is not recommended.

I'm 100% sure there was no delay in transmission as there was a radio simulcast on BBC Radio 1 and 2 FM (as stated elsewhere Radio 1 did not have its own FM station in those days, it shared with Radio 2. Radio 1 did have the frequency on Saturday afternoon when Radio 2 covered football.)
What might be confusing is that the TV performance was faded out before New Order had finished playing, but the Radio broadcast continued until Temptation was complete.

The Guildhall gig was the Sunday - Saturday live was the Saturday !!
Great result at Tamworth - sadly I was working, and unable to attend. Still a long way to go before we can get the Conference A-Z out though ! Good feature on Belper Town in this week's NLP.

I've got the video of this broadcast. Temptation is played until the end but the credits run over the last minute or so.
Read various interviews with NO following the set which say that the day was a complete disaster. Major traffic delays resulted in them driving down to London at high speed. Various pieces of equipment wouldn't work when they were setting up which resulted in their set changing at the last minute. Barney looks very pissed off throughout the set and is constently telling Steve to "speed up" during In A Lonely Place. Fantastic performance though, especially Temptation.
