I could only choose one for each year (TBTHOG and Face-Up the notable exceptions, because I felt they eached contained some nice ones live), so BM won out. If I could revise the poll I would include AOC, but alas it is too late....

The original New Order whooping, on record at least was on 1981's Everything's Gone Green. The 7" had one quietish whoop in the fade out ending and the 12" (on Substance and Retro)had Bernard whooping as if his life depended on it.

Of course he picked this technique (pardon the pun) up from "The Eternal" on "Closer" where if you have proper studio quality headphones you can clearly hear Ian whoop deliriously from 3.47 to 4.19 in the track.

Bernards whooping on Everything's Gone Green and Age of Consent are my faves. However, AND THIS IS A SERIOUS POINT,

I HATE it when he does it live on Love Will Tear Us Apart, what do others feel?, does your opinion vary depending whether you were a JD fan or not?.

I don't think Ian could have imagined his song being "treated" in this way.

Oh and happy birthday BS, beat me by 2 days (and 9 years, His finest moments come when he remembers how to play the guitar.

My apologies I forgot.

Bernards absolute most finest moment is on the PFD video when during Blue Monday a bright light suddenly gets shone in his face.

I won't spoil it for you, this IS worth seeking out.

Yes I absolutely agree. The true Salford in Barney reflects back the light with such understated venom.

Whoops aside, my fave Barnster moments are during the live renditions of Temptation with the "1-2-3-4" & "oh it's the last f***ing time" - I think I have them on a CD of Reading 98...

It must be the look he gives Hooky after 60MPH at Finsbury.

Is it the bit where he goes "down! down!"?
