I don't see what's wrong with the odd whoop during Atmosphere; how do we know Curtis wouldn't have been whooping it up himself, had he been alive today.

Newsflash - you don't have to SEE something in order to HEAR something - different senses there.

I'd be willing to wager lots of $ seeing NO while hearing Barney whoop during songs like IALP and Atmosphere would only make it worse. Kind of like seeing a picture of a pile or crap vs. having to see it and smell it - it just gets worse with every sense that you add.

You're taking it out of context. If you weren't there, I don't see how you can comment. And some of us do bother seeing New Order live so it's not really someone's place who can't be arsed to be lecturing us on what we should/shouldn't hear, now is it?

And how do people know Curtis wouldn't have ended up being a 47 year old arse, as I assume is being implied that Barney is. Look at Sumner 20+ years ago - miserablism personified on stage. And now look at the little fella. Curtis already had the dickhead dance, perhaps he could've developed the whooping too?

I do love all these Joy Division songs coming out of the woodwork though. If only Curtis knew he had all these fans, perhaps he might not have been so depressed.

It's not an issue of bothering to see New Order. If they come anywhere near me, I will go see them. I have a family to think about, so I ain't a goin' to fly somewhere to see them. My hat goes off to those who can afford to do that, but I cannot... it doesn't mean that I am any less of a fan though. Also, don't get too down on my opinion as several other people (who have seen them) feel the same way. I didn't start this thread to get everyone to accept my opinions (as uninformed as they are), I merely wanted to find out what others thought.

P.S. I never hung out with Ian, so I my opinion on the whole "Would Ian be whooping" thing won't apparently be of any value, so I will let other people address that.

Damned bloody right. I have the 316 dvd and man....the whoops are awesome but the dancing......let's just say it can be a big daggy at times trying to show it off to 2000's generation...

I like when he whoops right before the chorus in Bizarre Love Triangle. I'd feel like something was missing if he didn't.

yeh, maybe hooky should be give a mike so he could 'woop' as well.

I wonder what it would be like if they could whoop in parts? Maybe a tenor and baritone dual whoop would be really pretty? Add Gillian and you could have a nice Trio... like the 3 Tenors, but not all tenors... or men.
