For a chance to win one of five copies of New Order Live at Roskilde Festival in 1984 (cassette copy), can you answer the following question ? First five correct responses received in my e-mail inbox get a copy......

Which New Order song made it's live debut at the Hacienda ? Any one from the two available choices.....

Some people are on the piss, they think it's all over.....it is now !!!

The answers were State of the Nation and Weirdo, both of which first appeared in our ears for the first time at the Hacienda on 16/7/85.

The five winners are :

Mark McKellar-Harding Christy Wood Jean-Marc Boucher Ricardo Augusto Fernandes Alexandre Trevassos

Dave Hibell gets the special bonus edition for coming up with "The Happy One" which of course was played for the first time at the Hacienda.

Congratulations to you all - more Benny's Random giveaway competitions soon.....

It never will. Conway is sold on the ABBA link, and probably has never seen Crossroads. No doubt in my mind that it relates to Crossroads, but then again MES is probably being clever in combining both Bennys to make a point about the state of unpopular music at the time.

Indeed Benny! I think I got the Abba interpretation from the chap who ran the Fall Lyrics Parade before I took it over. And we keep asking Mark to clarify lots of things like this, but he can't be arsed. Mind you, he does get the bass player to download lyrics from the website when he brings back old songs into the live set (uses the printed sheet on stage because he can't afford an autocue).
