Originally posted by Rocket Mick There are indeed some excellent COVERS here and LONESOME is a winner!:nod:Some of the others have taken time to grow on me but this and AGE OF CONSENT hit me straight away. Also loved the BLUE MONDAY acoustic one and the TEMPTATION cover is a MUST!:jawdrop:I must get round to a full review which has kinda been lost in the NOOL forum being down and my recording commitments!:D

Thanks Mick !!!

Finally got round to writing the review Francois, here it is, and I do apologise if I offend any of the artistes, it's not meant to sound that way.....I wish I was talented enough to do a "Cover".Well done to all involved......a free copy when it's released would be great:D1 Ceremony / EVENTIDESuperb sound, guitars do the original justice, definitely a highlight of the album, could maybe have done with the heavier sounding drums on this track, it would have enhanced the quality...great effort.2 Temptation / ANTHONY STRETCHThis version sounds so strange to me, as it's basically accoustic, and after all the years of hearing the NO version, it's different to say the least! Again, superb guitar playing on this, but I would have loved to have heard some percussion on this track, sung beautifully and again another highlight of the album.3 Age Of Consent / KII NOOWhat can I say? I have already reviewed this on NOOL, I fuckin love this, and it sounds very proffesional, the music and the singing are great, if I was to be ultra critical, I'd have to say the guitars and keyboards should have been louder, but for me this is the song of the album.4 Your Silent Face / FOR THE CHOSEN FEWToo long an intro for me, and I'm not too keen on the drum machine and keyboards at the start.....far too much like pan pipes! having said that, once the keyboard picks up into the lyric accompaniement the song picks up tremendously, it's far too mellow for me, again, if the sound was pumped up a bit, I'd definitely think it would be a great idea.5 Blue Monday / SO HAPPYFemale singer on BM, now there's a refreshing change, accoustic is good, but I'd like this song better if it lost some of the sound affects in the background. Upbeat in middle of the soung when the drums come in, again, a nice try.6 Lonesome Tonight / UNE VIE AUSTEREDon't ask me why, but this song has grown on me a lot over the last couple of months, once I got past the accent of the singer, it's really good.7 The Perfect Kiss short Instru / SHEDI'd love to hear the full version, it's clear there has been a lot of time spent on getting the sound right.....give me this with lyrics please.8 Shellshock / THE RAMSFuckin love the piano on this, fanfookintastic, great singing as well, but I'd like to have heard this without the harmony, the uptempo bit towards the end is very poor, I'd rather have heard just the singer and piano.....it may well have been my favourite on the album, if the parts I've just mentioned were missing.9 True Faith / AIRBAGI like this as well, slow start, then BANG into the chorus.10 1963 / MAGNOLIAAgain, you have to get past the foreign accent, but when you do this song just grabs yer attention, lovely music on this.11 Round & Round / FEELINGS OF NOWHEREThe first dance track, but it sounds a wee bit close to Depeche Mode, very good though.12 Brutal / UNWISELove this one, I have a feeling it's a live recording, because the sound is terrible, It sounds very promising, I'd love to hear a studio version of this.13 Crystal / THE PURPLE LORDS OF THE SONIC CHURCHLove the name, not too keen on this, sounds a bit JAMC for me, but if the song was sped up, I dare say I'd like it a lot more.14 Rock The Shack / AIRBOXCut the intro guys, the rest of the song's good.Hopefully I haven't offended anyone, this was the vote from The Scottish Jury.I do believe Rocket Mick has this, so it's turn for his review....

SHUGZV...do you write for SMASH HITS/THE BEANO?:D

Firstly we have EVENTIDE with a superb guitar sounding CEREMONY.Great vocals which compliments the guitar SOLOS and excellent drumming.I would certainly like this to be longer and they have captured the essence of the ORIGINAL but added some great liittle twists.Well done!

A beautiful acoustic rendition of TEMPTATION with great vocals and i must admit this is one of the best cover versions i have EVER heard of a NEW ORDER SONG.Praise indeed from the ROCKET :nod:Anthony Stretch has certainly lived up to his named and STRETCHED this song IMHO. FANTASTIC and some great harmonising at the end.  ROCKTASTIC.:D

FoR ThE ChoSeN FeW are next with YOUR SILENT FACE.Builds up very nicely then we have a rather delicate keyboard and drums complimenting each other.CHILL OUT ROOM here we come(hey but no drugs at the PLANET ROCKET!) and a KRAFTWERK type feel to this record appears. The vocals i most certainly enjoy and when it gets a bit HEAVIER in THE WALL OF SOUND department it is truly enjoyable.Weird backup vocals and you can then enjoy a BOWIE/ENO a la LOW YEARS to this sound with a bit of early 80's sounds to the MIX.Rocket ...what are you on?A wonderful travelogue of music experience.I like this a lot.Goes on for aprox 8 mins but well worth the TIME.

SHELLSHOCK on piano....very slow vocals.THE RAMS have done an excellent job at making this somewhat tedious song sound refreshingly new.Great vocals and backup singing and this a WINNER.You should be searching this one out...but i am not too sure about the last bit though!Good ideas and funny.Brought a smile to my face:D

I was too supposed to give you some news about this tribute album project but past months have been pretty hectic I must say and things progress very slowly I am afraid. But I must say I am really moved by your reviews, guys! It's really nice of you and give a lot of encouragements for the following. Some of the groups involved in the project have been reading your reviews too and they were really happy about it. I also wanted to give u a few infos about the CD. There are a few projects concerning the art of the CD and we (the people I am working w/ and myself) wanted the groups involved to choose which cover they prefer. There is the one u know and a few others that have been sent to us. But we thought too that it would be cool if all of you guys could vote for the one u prefer. We would also like to steal the idea of the "True Faith: A Tribute to New Order" CD and get the name of the fans on the CD. But then it would be your nickname (like Spotnick, Rocket Mick, Benny...) and not the "real name". What would u think about it?

This group could have come from the PLANET ROCKET with a name like THE PURPLE LORDS OF THE SONIC CHURCH!:DCRYSTAL is the song in question and is VERY different from the original.Guitars from another DIMENSION.Like SHUGZV says a bit JAMC/VELVET UNDERGROUND but to me this enhances the track. Some clapping in it too:clap: .Lovely jubbly.

Well, Rocket Mick is totally free to feel the way he feels about our cover...

I'm just surprised as he seemed to like it at first, or was it my bad understanding of the Rocket's English ?

No it is my SENSE OF HUMOUR.Once i realised it was YOU i had to have a laugh! No offence though.:DBut my ORIGINAL comments STILL stand.I do indeed like this version.I was only remembering how sad and LONELY me and SHUGZV get so it was a dig at us!I have played the tribute album many times now and this song still is a WINNER!As for ROCKET'S ENGLISH you must remember this is my second language after ROCKETSPEAK.:wink:Buster ...also remember NO-ONE ever listens to a word i say so if i said it was GREAT they would AVOID it! Rocket ALL BY MYSELF Mick
