I'm sure Spotnick would have jumped on this, but I scooped him haha!

SO ANYWAY

Ladies and gentlemen, after a few weeks of discussions and still in the mood of NewOrderOnline's second anniversary, we are proud to announce that, in collaboration with Rhino Records, we will be giving away 5 copies of the soon-to-be-released U.S. version of NewOrder's boxset RETRO.

More details very very soon...

and good luck to everyone!

Oh yes, I almost forgot...

These boxsets will ALL have the bonus 5th disc.

This competition *might* only be opened to U.S. and Canada residents... that aspect still needs to be discussed between Nicolas and I.

Hope this comp is gonna be open to poor, unlucky bastards outside of the USofA ;)

Maybe you should consider opening the competition to the Aussie and New Zeland onliners, which are often forgotten.

Problem is, Rhino will not be sending the boxsets -- WE WILL.

I will probably sound like a cheap bastard, but unless the winners are ready to pay for the shipping, I'm not particularly interested in paying to ship packages like these (not one CD, but FIVE + booklet, etc.) as far as in Australia, New Zealand, Asia or even Europe, espcially if you consider that we'd be paying for sending a beautifil GIFT to perfect strangers after all! :)

Asking the winners to pay for the shipping would be complicated in the way that we would have to go to the post office first, then ask how much it would cost for each destination, and then wait for the money to come from another part of the world before sending it. Very complicated!

ON THE OTHER HAND, it would also cost a certain amount in the U.S. and Canada, and we might decide to ask the winners to pay for the shipping ANYWAY. So it wouldn't be so much more complicated to open the competition to everyone all over the world after all.

So if you're ready to pay for the shipping, I'd be ready to give it out to anyone, without distinction of where you live.

What do you say?

Damned, he scooped me..

My message was:

A new contest will start as soon as I manage to create the page.

We have received today 7 copies of Retro US Edition with the bonus disc. 2 promotional copies for the webmasters, and 5 to do our contest, courtesy of Rhino.

So basically, let me the time to do a banner and the contest page.. this time, it's opened for everybody... BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY THE SHIPPING, because I have them all at my place.

P/S: The bonus discs are sealed and not included in the US Boxset.. it seems they are the UK discs, as the copyright is to London, the boxset has Rhino on it...

Personally, if I'd win one Retro-box then I certainly would pay (at least something, 50-75%?) the shipping charges IF the charges would be less than buying the box from store. That limited, 5cd Retro box costs something like 65-80 Euros (abt $68-83, £42-52) here in Finland. Perhaps you should do some reconnaissance about the shipping charges around the world before you decide if non-US people are allowed to participate. By the way, how big is that Retro-box? Does anybody have any pictures of it ant it's contents online?

  1. The discs have a different color, they are BLUE

  1. There is no cardboard protection on the US edition, meaning, it doesn't come in a cardboard protection where the boxset is inserted into (if you understand what I mean.. you're lucky!)

Other than that, seems the same.. except the barcode is stripped.. as these are PROMO boxsets...! (sorry, "advanced copies" would be the right term)

I have no info whatsoever what kind of box it is (i have never even seen a Retro-box). Is it like a double jewel case (like Substance), but instead of 2 disc it holds 4, or is it some kind of gigantic cardboard-thingy that measures something like half meters in every direction... (Just trying to calculate how much sending it from USA to Finland would cost).

"gigantic cardboard-thingy that measures something like half meters in every direction"

That's more like it, sorry!

It cost 3.50 UK Pounds to ship from UK to Canada, if that helps.. but basically, it's MUCH MUCH cheaper than buying it!

Yeah, that's the way I figured it out too. If I win I'd be happy to pay the shipping fees in full :)

I better win something out of this since I opened mine and it didn't have the disc.

Not my best banner, but I'm tired.

Question for the contest is:

Where was recorded the version of Turn My Way that can be found on the Live Disc of Retro (venue and city)?

Not sure it's exactly like this, but you get the picture.. it should be quite easy for anyone to find, I spent so many nights building the damned discography, if you don't find it there, then just (*/&/(*&/(/*

As we said, this is a WORLDWIDE contest, BUT if you win, you will have to SEND US the money for the shipping to your location. Of course, I would suggest to send it registered for obvious reasons, so keep that in mind please.

And once again, thank you very much to Rhino for letting us do this little competition, I'm sure everyone will be happy to participate.

I´m in but... do you have an idea of how much It´d cost to ship that to argentina? on us dollars, please :D

http://www.postescanada.ca/personal/rates/default-e.asp

Check there... 1$ CDN is more or less 65 cents US...

BTW, I have a Purolator counter in the building where I work, if that helps ;) Check them too...

As for the payment, Paypal might be the easiest way, but we'll then add the "Paypal" fees.

I'm sorry for that, but obviously, that's the downside of this contest, otherwise the contest would be North America only...

I checked out the "small packets" international section. is that right? btw, how much retro weights? between 0-100, 100-250g or 250-500g?

I thought all the discs were blue  mine certainly are!

What are you all complaining about, the only way to get it in Croatia would be to order it and pay the full price and the shipping fees (I've had to order stuff from abroad for most of my youth anyway !).

And the bonus disc is quite easy to mistake for a blank CDR until you read the tiny print round the centre hole!!!

Yes, I tried playing the bonus disc upside down to get the hidden tracks, but unfortunately it didn't work.

Try turning yourself upside down P, then insert the bonus material. If your facing the right direction in your house (i.e. towards the biscuit barrel) and with a bit of luck - the original extended mix of Do the Outstretch should kick in.

Goodness gracious me, Mr. H, where in the world have you been? We thought you'd gone away for good! Well, not for good, but never to visit us again! Good to hear from you again!

OK, I will try turning the house upside down and see what that does.

Probably showcase a few odd socks Patty, that you swore you had lost skiing in Colorado.

Been meaning to post for a while ... just been busy, that's all. Still am in fact but I couldn't resist a quick hello.

I'm yet to pick up Metroid Prime for the GameCube but thankfully my local His Masters Vocal Column had a copy in with the free bonafide CD so I'm hoping to purchase tomorrow. Also, the DVD of the gig they did last year at the town hall.

I was pleased to read (a while ago) that the recording quality is good, and that Broody Mud titles were on offer with emphasis on the legendary Pat-complaint vocal muddiness. Personally, I didn't think there was anything wrong with the original but lets put that little monkey into his sack now.

Talk soon ... I'm off now to buy some bread from the shops, and some margarine ... we're almost out of both! (hey, nothing changes) - and its bath night tonight.

:hat:

Is it me? Did anyone understand any of that? Welcme back Humpty.

What makes you think I wear socks while skiing, H?

When you do acquire Five Faces of Heaven, let me know how you feel about my personal favorite item: the Paradise remix. Although you probably have already heard it, since the credits claim it was on a Factory single in 1987, I believe.

Have you seen the Towering Twos?

Bloody leaky roof on that Town Hall Hunsty!!!

Now, are you gonna send it to five people randomly out of the possible many who answer it correctly? Or is it more "first 5 to respond correctly"? I sent my submission off this morning, just wondering :thumb:

5 random of course... because your morning was the UK people's afternoon, it wouldn't be fair ;)

Well, if that's the case, I'm sure everyone would love to hear about your boyhood love of Sammy Hagar's solo career...... and with that, there are FOUR box sets still in the runing :D

only kidding, Nic. I'm sure you will decide fairly (but there's $3 in it for you if you pick me! :evil4: )

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem or if everyone already knows the answer to the contest question, but for some reason the Discography>Box Sets>Retro section of neworderonline.com will never load on my computer. It says "Document: Done" and the screen is still blank.

Can somebody tell me if there is another place I can find the answer?

Thanks!

It's weird because this page isn't even loading from that far away for me ...I live in Toronto! I think it might have to do with the server ...maybe it's overloaded or something (that's why there's the question of "should we have ads at neworderonline.com")

I"ll have to try to find another resource for the discography...

I'm not sure I want to give them away now.

After seeing how much they end up on EBay

BTW, there is a LOT of people registered.. still 2 weeks to go!

For the winners, I'll suggest to use Paypal for the shipping fees.. fast and convenient.. I work nearby a post office, so this should solve my lazyness in posting those.. I also work near a Purolator office, posting depends on your!

Well, I just purchased my 4th box set. Someone from Denmark had it sealed with a Buy It Now for $29.99 US - woohoo! Only $5 shipping too... sweet - hooray for me. This one I am actually keeping. I already have made $100.

Try actually going to the places that carry em but don't normally sell them too much, like bookstores. (Borders, Walden, Barnes & Noble, etc.) I've seen few in them places in the last year or so. :thumb:

Never understand the "there is only xxxx copies of this..." The UK version of Retro was around for ages as the 5 disc set,i still see it now and again in Liverpool & Manchester. The Saville soundtrack is another one-limited to 3000,yet there are always 2 or 3 copies on eBay?

If you had posted this earlier than the date you did, I would have delivered it in person. I spent the weekend around 9th Jan 2003 in Zagreb and brought a copy with me for my Croatian girlfriend who is also a New Order nut.

Because some people buy them to sell them.. (I know, I have 3 Retro limited!! 1 UK and 2 US!)

But I've never seen a US one on EBay... there were a lot more UK limited editions...

How come you have so many retro boxsets ?????? Doublecrossing people all over again, maybe??? :confused2:

By the way guys, I love old threads like these... and I miss the Wolfmann !!!! :(

Quite simple... I bought a UK one, we got 7 US boxsets, you and I got one and did a contest to give away 5 copies... I sent email to all the winners, and one of them never claimed his prize... hence why I still have it unopened.

However, I forgot totally about it until I moved last may... and I have never thought about selling it on EBay...

Wow... you would think someone who wins something like this would jump on the occasion.

How come I was never informed of this? This boxset should have been drawned for someone else's pleasure, then!

Maybe it could be drawn as a "Grand Prize" for the next competitions when the new single comes out.

It's common knowledge, I've said it many times.

At this point, I just don't want to see this sold on EBay, so if it is part of a special deal someday, it will be between trusted members who doesn't have it and will keep it.

Is there any difference between the UK/US versions. Its exactly the same tracklist isn`t it?

So what is the definitive way to tell if the copy of Retro at your local Borders is a 5-disc one?

Originally posted by SHOUTcasterPat So what is the definitive way to tell if the copy of Retro at your local Borders is a 5-disc one?

The only way to tell is it has a sticker on saying,Limited 5 disc edition featuring 17 min version of 'Eliga'.

The different between the US and UK limited edition is that the CD are a different color... (they are reversed)

Look in the discography if you want to see.

And the US limited edition (5 discs) is rarer than the UK one.

But the music is exactly the same.
