forget the compilations other than substance - get low life as your first album proper from new order. quality.

Anyone else who's clicked on this thread have trouble loading / viewing the page before this one? There's a Microsoft error message that's suddenly appeared on the first post of that page. I was going to add to an older post I made but can't access that particular page. :(

It's odd - wonder why thats happening, it's not as if this thread is by any means the biggest - that crazy Three Word Story one is absolutely colossal!! But I have a feeling that Incubation guy probably caused that last page to stop loading cos of that enormous list he posted up...! :D

Well I believe this is worth mentioning - and adding to my earlier list.

I've just acquired (in pretty decent condition) a copy of the HESSIAN BOOK COVER edition of Joy Division's "Still" vinyl album set.

The outers themselves are in excellent condition. As are the inner card sleeves. The only blemish would appear to be the second vinyl album - with two permanent smudges across side two and a faint (thankfully not deep into the surface) scratch that runs halfway along the other side - but it plays okay.

I never thought I'd ever see the day when I'd come across THIS rarity. But here it is - pride of place in my - still growing - collection.

Cost? A mere snip at £27.00. Pretty reasonable if you ask me.

And where did I get it from....?

I'm not saying...........yet.

Whoops! Sorry - I've just noticed you DID state the value - it was buried inside the quote...... silly me!

My specialist collection - apart from all the official UK releases and a clutch of imports from US and Europe - consists mostly of almost every single live gig New Order have done since 1981. I have countless cassette tapes of these - some obtained from record fairs - others actually recorded by myself - stashed away back at home in Bristol gathering dust in the loft.

Problem is, none of them are actually for sale or exchange now as it's my own obsession of sorts. And I'm currently working away from home in Denmark with a civil engineering company, and am not expected to return to British shores until at least next summer.

I've effectively stopped buying now cos obviously it's not feasible to do so where I currently live, but I'm sure that when I'm back in England I will be scouring all the record shops once again on the look-out for items I may have missed. This collecting lark is an exhausting business I can tell you!

Some very interesting collections on this thread though - it's taken me an age to wade through them - I've also noticed a couple of pages aren't loading - I wonder why?

Me too - back in 1984 in my case (I'm 43 now) - in fact I think I have TWO copies - one actually autographed by Hooky, Bernard and Steve (but sadly not Gillian as she scarpered back to the dressing room after the gig at London Festival Hall). I also wanted Rob Gretton to sign it but he was off getting pissed somewhere.... !

It was neworder that convinced me to give up collecting anything in an obsessive manner. Up to the perfect kiss/lowlife releases I had every official vinyl and cassette issue by both bands, all the badges and more that that guy on eBay had in the big JD collections, flyers, all the books (repressings), shoeboxes full of clippings, more T shirts than I could wear and walls overflowing with posters. Then Perfect Kiss came out and I bought it and had a yellow inner. My mate also bought it and had a blue inner. Well that was it, paranoia ensued. Without the internet, how was I to know how many different colours there were?? I resorted to going into my local record shop and carefully slitting the cellophane that the 12s were wrapped in and looking at the colours of the inners. I did it for weeks. The Lowlife came out and I bought three copies on vinyl. One to stay cellophaned and never played, one unwrapped with the tracing paper on, and one with the tracing paper off. I bought two copies on cassette. One to play and one to keep in cellophane all clean. The with subculture destroyed on 12" I gave up collecting anything.

ALthough I did buy loads of copies of the NME when it had the free technique sticker and 5 copies of Run2 when it came out as I figured both would be worth something later. Just a shame I sold them years ago!

As for my collection, I have ONE copy of all the official 7s, 12s and LPs up to the Republic album when I stopped bothering with 12s or CDs which just contained endless pointless remixes.

I don't think it was You who caused one page to stop loading on this thread - it was that guy (whatsisname?) who posted up a list so bloody enormous it probably collapsed in on itself. He hasn't been back to the forum since has he? A saboteur perhaps? Mind you, this whole forum has been taking an absolute age to load these days - i think some of the threads on the other forum are getting so big (one is now almost 2000 replies!) it's probably slowing the whole server down, what do you think? Whatever, it's a fucking bore waiting for the page to load up when I want to click onto this forum - i could quite easily go out and do my shopping then walk the dogs and come back to find the page still hasn't loaded yet!!

See your point about all those crappy remixes on the later NO singles. As for your previous obsessiveness - blimey, that must have been expensive - buying multiple copies of everything... cant believe you slit all the 12"s open just to check what colour the inners were - I'm surprised the shop never caught you and arrested you for vandalising all their stock!! That's most scarey...

Okay, I now have a couple of New Order albums to add to my list. It's not that I'm making any attempt to collect everything they ever did - but I guess that isn't going tohappen anyway. I only got into the whole New Order and Joy Division thing from my friend Connor cos he liked a lot of the music by Morrissey and his band The Smiths - and I always loved Johnny Marr's guitar work, so I guess I wanted to seek out his thing with Bernard, Electronic, and when I found out that Electronic was an extracurricular to New Order, I felt I had to investigate New Order to see how influential their music was, sorry for rambling on here but, you know how these things can often transpire.....

Brotherhood CD Movement CD

At the moment, Brotherhood is the better of the two because the dance tracks on it are pretty much closest to what I first heard of New order anyway to begin with. Movement still sounds like the band were trying to escape their Joy Division beginnings and the vocals are very Ian Curtis derived.

Just add a couple of further things to this bulging thread for good measure - whilst down in London last weekend, managed to pick up from Sister Ray records a cheap (special offer) copy of the 3:16 / 5:11 DVD (£9.99) and ALSO - gasp ! - a 12" VINYL version of last year's Here To Stay single - with "Crystal" on it amongst the four mixes. I never knew about this release! Even in a pic sleeve as opposed to the plain white covers with the red stripe. When did this get sneaked out? Was it an import? Was it a very limited edition? Haven't the foggiest. I assumed there was just the 2 CDs and the DVD issued and that was it - so coming across this was a big surprise. Who else has a copy of this 12"?

I've just added: Peter Saville Show cd Someone like you double 12" single German pressing (Red with white stripe on cover). Crystal promo 12 single (white with green stripe on cover).

Found the last two in secondhand record shops in London
