Why was Murder released only on Factory Benelux? Was this to appeal to a different market?

It was so much different from thieves lIke us at the time and was going in a different direction than the future releases (PK, sub culture etc).

Why can't they be more leftfield like this now, they sure have the ability to do so and the credibility to get away with it

Yeah I really like Murder. Anyone know the history of when it was written/recorded as it does sound older in style than the stuff they were writing in 1984 ?

From what I remember, it was recorded around the time of 'Power, Corruption and Lies' but why it got a single release with an instrumental of 'Thieves Like Us' on the other side, at the same time as TLU, and on Factory Benelux - all details I can't clear up.

Any help here?

They did occassionally use Factory Benelux for more experimental left-field releases, the EGG 12" and (I think) the 81-82 EP were also Benelux releases.

Bit off track but I think they actually played this when I saw them in Frankfurt. At least it sounded something like it! It was certainly the only time I ever heard that song live. Unlike SWEET JANE, which seemed to crop up every now and then.

I don't think it's ever been played live, maybe it was 'Solitude' which sounds similar in style.
